  1. Wow, exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!! http://www.hammerheadchartersandtackle.com/ [ Post made via Android ]
  2. Only type of non-DIY cowbells I was able to find were the Luhr Jensen Lake Trolls. Are there others that are called something else? What do you recommend? I've never fished with cowbells myself, and am looking to try it out. Where could I get some? Thanks!
  3. Anyone know of a place that does that? All I really need is someone with a sewing machine, really... The last owner of my boat didn't warn me that the cover wasn't quite "trailerable," and unfortunately it tore at the seams while I was going 55mph down the road. Thankfully no one was behind me or would've been bad.
  4. Yes, and I LOVED it! .. yes... I've been keeping up...
  5. I am looking at these two units, and they appear to be pretty much the same. The 385ci is a bit more expensive typically but it’s on sale right now at Drugstore.com, (out of all places you wouldn’t expect to sell fish finders), and they have a 20% off everything coupon, so it becomes only $20 more expensive than the Elite-4, at $320 vs. $300. So, now the only consideration for me is Humminbird vs. Lowrance quality and support, and I’ve seen some pretty negative reflections on Lowrance customer service and dependability. Sounds like 385ci it is? Thoughts?
  6. Thanks, Bob! I got pretty beat up by my very uneventful first one-month long "Salmon season" out of Sodus... So really looking forward to some feel-good that Keuka is sure to provide
  7. Thanks for the report! Pulled my boat out of Sodus and can't wait to get back down to Keuka for some fall laker bonanza! Can't wait till October 1st limit bump, my freezer is fishless! Question for the more experienced folks: what's the typical progression of fishable depth ranges as the fall progresses? Lakers move up from the bottom by end of Sept/ mid October? Will flatlining deep-diving Rapalas work? Unfortunately I'm stuck with a POS fish finder until I can save up some to get myself a nice Xmas present, but for now all it's good for is depth readings, not finding arcs. Thanks!
  8. That's what I hear... Sadly I never got a chance to find out. I bought all this stuff to outfit my little boat, but then ended up selling it, and now I'm trying to recoup at least part of my expenses, since the new boat came pre-rigged for trolling
  9. Bought it new, and bought a new boat a week later. Never been mounted; never seen water. Only thing it doesn't have is the original plastic packaging. Otherwise it's all there. $40 in Rochester. $62.99 at Cabela's. http://www.cabelas.com/downrigger-acces ... or-1.shtml
  10. Right back at ya! Nice to finally meet some members of the forum to put a face to the username. Thanks to you and Carpedium for an awesome trip! I had a blast and sure learned a lot!! No. I think another several hundred dollars worth of electronics, between a good fish finder/gps unit and a down speed/temp probe is in order. Will be licking my wounds from all the spending I did this (my first) season over the winter and hopefully start the next season with some new toys. Went out yesterday with my dad and was completely miserable with the worthless 10 year old fish finder we have now.
  11. How can you tell it's a Coho?? Thanks all for the replies so far... Intended to go on a charter earlier this year but had some decent success in the fingerlakes - not great by any means - but enough to keep myself happy/busy. Looks like Lake O is a completely different beast. Just really hard to justify the cost of those charters, even though I really have no doubt that they are everything people say they are.
  12. [[edit]] It took a LOT of work to get this guy! After 2 unsuccessful trips, yesterday was mine and my dad’s first success in Ontario. First ever king (although by the size of him, I’d say he was still just a prince. Har har). I feel like we’re complete beginners once again with our pitiful success rate. Can someone make some suggestions on improvement please? And, based on my past experiences here, I know you will, so thanks in advance! We left Sodus Bay around 9am yesterday morning and went north straight off the lighthouse. Set up in about 100 FOW. Wind was out of the SE so we trolled with the wind for a couple hours since we didn’t feel like crashing into the waves. This was our 4 rod setup: 1) Downrigger with 100ft spooled out and a 12lb ball dragging a green/silver NK42 spoon (don’t know the name, bought second hand) about 20ft behind 2) Downrigger with 120ft spooled out and a 12lb ball dragging a black/silver NK42 spoon (don’t know the name, bought second hand) about 20ft behind 3) 1 dipsy on 2 setting to one side, out 300ft with a white w/green dot spindoc and a white/green fly 4) 1 dipsy on 2 setting to the other side, out 250ft with a white/white spindoc and a white/green fly Speed on the display was 2.2 - 2.8 MPH. We trolled at that speed to about 220-240 FOW, leaving about 15 boats around the 140-160FOW line (perhaps that was our first mistake). We turned around and starting trolling into the waves, going roughly SE. We were already talking about heading back, as it’s been 3 hours with no hits, as around the 140FOW mark the white w/green dot spinny hits and the fight was very quick, after a couple minutes this 9lb-er was in the boat. I checked and redeployed a couple of the lines, switching one of the downriggers to pulling a spindoc/fly combo and putting an NK42 on a dipsy now. We trolled aimlessly in around 130-160FOW for another hour and headed back in. 3 outings, hours on the water, gallons of fuel, tangles, lost tackle, and this is all we get… I suppose 1 is better than none as they say, but can someone advise please? We’re not total novices but I feel like, especially after reading some of the reports here, we could do a lot better than this. Thanks!
  13. And you can also feel good about warning others about this. I always drop speed to 5mph when going through the channel. Never knew about the "no wake" policy, so thanks for the heads up!
  14. Not even! This was between a dipsy set on 0 down the chute about 100ft out and another one on a 3 setting while getting the second one deployed slowly and carefully.
  15. Did not receive a nice welcome from the Lake O, but then again, we’re newbs. Finally got a big enough boat to go out into the big pond and spent two afternoons washing lures in anywhere from 100 to 220 FOW out of Sodus. All we got was a giant tangle. Feel like I need to run back to Keuka to patch my wounds with some small laker slime! To boot, on the way back ran into some weeds and after cleaning the prop, noticed the telltale was just trickling. Idled back to the dock and tried to flush out the cooling system, and couldn't tell that it made much of a difference. Aaaaarrrgghhhhh!! [ Post made via Android ]
  16. Bought this DR from AgentOrange almost exactly a month ago. Mounted it on my old 16'er and used it once. Worked great! But recently bought a bigger boat that came with 2 Big Jon electric units, so have no need for this one. Comes with a mount, a 10lb ball and a Walker release. Selling it exactly for what I paid for it. $70
  17. I'm looking for an "in case of emergency and save on gas when trolling" motor for a 20' Starcraft aluminum. Will this do the trick or should I be looking for a 9.9hp?
  18. And for those living 2 hours northwest of Elmira? give them a call they ship im pretty sure Same price, $6 shipping, no 8% tax... (but yes, this would not be supporting local businesses, true)
