We're heading up to the lake today for another fishing trip. This is a 'last chance' for these Cannon riggers. One more hiccup and we are getting rid of them for good and switching to Scotty.

Really good thing to check. I just went outside and checked that the spool is running the right way. I thought it might be the case where we have them backwards - I almost wish it was so that there was an "aha" moment and this whole thing would be fixed. But I just checked and they are definitely spooled from the bottom. Thanks for taking the time to reply and help.

We have manual cannon riggers on our bass boat. They've worked well for many years and without problems. However, I would highly recommend staying away from electric Cannons.

We have Cannon Mag 10 STXs giving us a world of trouble since day one. 2 probes and 2 sharks gone the first week of using them. Good bye $1000. We have snubbers which helps, but I hold my breath every time bringing them up and down. And I fish each day with a pit in my stomach hoping there won't be another catastrophe. Maximizing fishing time with my old man is priority #1, losing fishing time because of shoddy gear makes me incensed. Another thing that went wrong is that one of the riggers would deploy down but one day stopped retrieving. Opened up the housing and replaced the board connection that could've gotten wet and damaged. Seems to have worked but time will tell. Another problem is that it looks like the cable has worn against the housing creating little saw tooth gashes in the plastic. Looks to me like they're just waiting to fray, catch, and break the cable. Holding my breath yet again. Yet another problem is that it seems the deploying and retrieving speed is just too fast, and the cable does not wrap tightly and evenly on its spool. If that cable slips and breaks, goodbye probe #3. I'm about ready to just throw in the towel and get another brand of riggers. Peace of mind would be worth it alone. Any tips or advice? Any other rigger brands out there more reliable?

Does anyone use this method for killing and cleaning fish? It's said to be the most humane way to kill a fish and preserves the meat significantly better. Japanese technique that's been done for hundreds of years. Does anyone have a kit they made themselves or know where to buy a kit for this method?

Does anyone know if the temperature chart data are collected and are publicly available?

(GHSP is between Oaks Orchard and Olcott) Woke up at 4:30 and looked out the campsite. Didn't look like the weather was great but we couldn't help giving it a shot. Got out at 5:30. Started 130 fow and worked out to 300. Got a few shakers, two of which I didn't notice and ended up having to keep. Went 5 for 7. One was a screamer 15 lb King 62 ft down in 160 fow. Thought it was 20+ for sure on the line for the fight it gave but wasnt quite that big. Lost a nice steelhead when it jumped and spit the hook. Everything else was shakers. Wind picked up by noon and we had to pack up. Best spoon by far for the past few days has been wonderbread with a silver back. The thermocline was significantly different. Didn't hit the colder water until 90-100 ft down. Few days ago it was more like 40 ft down! Interestingly enough most of the bites today came at the warmer water or on the fringe of the colder stuff!! Fish must be hungry Trying once more tomorrow morning and hopefully the lake isn't too stirred up. 2 more hits, went 5/7 today with no big ones. MVP was wonderbread spoon with silver backing. Marked all kinds of fish like crazy when we were heading in but the wind was really picking up and not much action. Just 2 misses Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Understood! I just found switching to 50 lb was a quick fix for today and hasn't detracted from the catch from what I can tell. Glad folks are chiming in with some info. Just landed a 7 lb rainbow 290 fow 39' down. Beautiful fish but not a keeper! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
