  1. Lake Colby and lake clear were always fun lakes to fish. I lived in Saranac lake for a while and used to troll with a canoe both of theses lakes. They held some impressive browns and landlocked salmon. They often were deep and trolled for them with lake clear wobbles and streamer flies that were tied by a guy right in town. Fish often in the 5 + lb range. We used to also fish from shore in the fall with streamers with fly rods. The Saranac river used to get stocked really heavy around April 1st with browns and the whole river section through the village was fun to fish during certain hatches. Kaddis hatches were fun. Most small lakes in that region are not motor boat acess able though. Lake flower in the village of Saranac lake held some impressive bass. That lake is motor boat acessable. I never fished tupper lake but the water in all the lakes is very amber colored. This is caused buy all of the evergreen tree run off. Gold colored spoons were always best because of the water being the color it is.

  2. We're you south of longpoint. I always liked fishing that area. I fished out front of Deans cove today and did ok. Everything was deep for me I never went inside of 60 ft. Marked a lot of bait on bottom in the 70 to 90 ft range. White flasher with white flies were my ticket. Gonna go back at it tomorrow morning

  3. I haven't been on the lake since father's day this year because of boat troubles. But in years past this time of year the fish are set up in the 70 to 80 ft range holding with bait in the cooler water. Set backs for me have never made much diferance for me it seems the fish aren't that picky. Flasher flies in green chartreuse or white seem to always do well. All my downriggers are always stacked or have cheaters on them for silvers with stinger sized spoons for silvers, bright colored spoons orange and red seem to produce well for me depending the day. A lot of times as sun gets up in the sky I do well with all silver spoons. Or spoons in blue and silver or black and white. This info only pertains to cayuga lake but I would have to imagine senaca would probably be about the same. Keep it simple always works better for me. Good luck and be safe.

  4. I have a 27 ft searay sundancer with a 454 single screw mercrusier that I puchchased last year from a dealer. The boat was bought used and at this point I'm not going to slander the dealership for they don't know about my problems as of yet. Anyway I purchased the boat in October of last year and brought it home and rigged it for fishing. I pit it in a slip on cayuga and fished out of it 4 or 5 times during October and then took it back to the marina I purchased it from to have them winterize it and go check every over to make sure it would be good for this year. This year before putting the boat in the water in mid may I started the boat at home on the muffs and ran the antifreeze out of the engine as I was instructed to do by the marina that did the winterization. I checked the oil charged the batteries and then took boat to cauga lake an launched it. I fished out of it for. 1 day back at the end of may and put it back in it's slip at Frontenac marina. That day everything ran great had no problems. Yesterday 6/19/19 I went to fish and went threw my standard pre launch check. Started boat up let it idle for a while while I was getting things ready to go un tied the boat and idled out of the marina. About a 1/4 mile out of the marina I started to try to get the boat up on a plane and boat was lacking in horsepower at full throttle boat would not climb over 3500 rpm. I backed of the throttle and tried again to come up on a plane this time the engine climes to just about 3500 rpms and completely dies and won't restart. Open the motor well smells of burt fuel almost like diesel smoke. Bilg was clean of any gas spray or oil. Spark arrestor on the carborator Semmes to have a black film on it. I had to be towed in from the guys at Frontenac marina and I give a huge thanks to them free of charge for people who slip with them. Anyway they called me yesterday and told me there mechanic looked at the boat quick and said my oil dip stick was dry. I never received a low oil alarm nothing over heated. I know my oil presher alarm works. It goes off if the key is left on and the boat isn't started. It looks like my season has ended before my first whole day on the water. I've logged 4 hrs fishing time this year. Thanks for any advise

  5. Went out today also across the lake from you. Hit the 2ater around 1130 and fished until about 230. Caught 4 fish all above 6 lbs with one coming in at almost 10. All fish were on flasher fly combos with white atomic flys being the best. Marked a ton of bait and fish from 20 ft down to 50 ft. Held riggers 8n the 40 ft range and divers out 150 and 160. Had 2 kids with me 11 and 14 so boat controll was tough. Lead with different spoons was dead today. Good luck headed out for a day trip Wednesday

  6. Fished last week up on the north end of the lake and did well with spoons. All fish were in shallow water is still pretty cold. All my fish were caught in the 35 ft range. All silver spoons on a 5 color lead was most productive. Riggers were pretty quiet but dipsy on a 3 setting had some hits too. I would imagine from t falls to the boy scout camp will be good along the flat before the steep drop off.

  7. I have a friend who is interested in fishing for crappie and such and he asked me if there were any in cayuga up on the north end. I have never fished for anything but trout and salmon so I couldn't really help him. I know there are perch and bass in the lake and the normal sunfish but does cayuga have much of a crappie population. Thanks. Good luck

  8. Set downrigger weight down on the botom and troll along can be a lot harder to do in the fingerlakes with the steep drop offs but the idea is to stir up the mud attracting fish. Problem being since the intruduction of zebra mussels it can make a mess out of your rigs. Back in the 80s we used to drag copper along the bottom with victrolla reels and large Suttons of phlugar spoons old timers called it making corn rows. Nothing beets handling a large lake trout off the bottom on single strand copper wire. I still use old window weights as downrigger weights when I'm in close dragging bottom helps keep my rigs of the bottom but keeps them close.

  9. I like it there the people are friendly. I only kept my boat there for the last month and a half but plan to be back next year. I didn't get my new to me boat until the 1st part of September. As far as changing my port name I couldn't figure out how to do it. I struggle enough just posting things to the site. I've tried numerous times to become a pro member and always get lost. I had to open a new a count on my cell phone because I forgot my password
