  1. How far are you bringing up the ball with your line still in the release?  All the way to the surface, or just up a bit to change lure depth?  I never leave my line in the release if im bringing it all the way to the surface to change out a lure or check to see if its running clean.  Just pop it, let it flutter up while you bring up the ball.  Your ball should not be spinning in circles when its coming up or down.  If it is then you probably have a problem with the swivel being used to attach the ball.

I use the Scotty Powergrip releases exclusively.  IMO, they are the easiest to use and most reliable. Super easy to tweak grip strength, and less parts that can break on them.

  2. I tend to use things like this a little more than most....but I will sell 10 of them to you for a total of $800 .... If you care to put your money where your mouth is..... Call me and they are yours...716-560-2878

Oh you're right.  I guess because Im not a charter captain I must not use my gear hard.  I was serious about buying them from you, but if you are going to run your mouth and be a dick about it you can unload them on someone else.  Good luck captain

  3. Ive used the Stingray sized spoons for the past 5 years on Erie.  I catch everything on them.  Walleye.  Lake Trout.  Steelies.  Even monster sized silverbass lol.  I troll them at surface speeds from 1.8-2.4mph.  Colors that walleye seem to prefer are Dark Purple Froggy, NBK, Raspberry Dolphin, Hawg Wild, Puke, I Dont Care, Purple Pooh Bear....the list goes on and on.

  4. I am trying to buy some new spoons, specificaly to target Steelhead and Kings.  I have used the Dreamweaver Superslims and Michigan Stinger regular and Stingrays for walleye and steelhead on Erie with good success, but Im not sure what sizes to use on Ontario for king salmon.

Will the magnum sized Dreamweavers and Michigan Stingers be less productive than say the Superslims and Stingray sizes?

Another quick question.  What size spin doctors are most popular....the 8in?

  5. Get Okuma Classic Pro GLT down rigger and Dispy Diver rods.  Look at the Okuma or Daiwa line counter reels.  I personally spool my rigger rods with 14-17lb test Berkley Trilene 100% Flourocarbon line.  On my dipsys rods I use 30lb 7 strand wire, with 20lb Berkley Trilene 100% Flourocarbon leaders.  Look at the Dreamweaver Superslim spoons in black / green / white color combinations.  Same with Michigan Stinger spoons.  Buy some magnum sized ones as well.  These rods and reels will last you a long time and perform great.  When it comes to lures, the sky is the limit.  I have well over 200 spoons in my box.  But I would say I use about 25 of them nowadays.  The rest just take up space.

  6. Has anybody ever ordered stuff from this website?  I want to order the Specialmate spoon box, but this place is pounding me on shipping.  Not only do they have the highest price for the box on the internet, they want $30 to ship it.  Does anybody else have a line on where I can get one of these?

  7. Take the time and do it right. I just cleaned up my electrical system this spring and it is so much nicer. Nothing is uglier and more unsafe than having a bunch of wiring hanging off the batteries. Install yourself a nice big new fuse panel made by Bluesea Systems. Run a 4gauge positive wire from the common on your Perko to the fuse panel. Then run a 4gauge negative from the fuse panel to the main grounding point or negative terminal on a battery. Wire EVERY electrical device on the boat to the fuse panel...except your automatic bilges. This way everything is nice and neat and protected by fuses

  8. I had a similiar issue with my new Raymarine Evolution Sportpilot.  Initially I had it wired to the same bus as my chartplotter and sonar.  When the pilot would kick on, my sonar and chartplotter would **** the bed.  Eventually to fix the problem I had to install new 4 gauge wire and a new fuse panel.  With this in place, I was able to move the autopilot, sonar, chartplotter, vhf, radio, and spreader lights all onto the same fuse panel with no problems.  Most likely you just need thicker wire up to your fuse panel to carry more current.

  9. Awesome.  I was going to get a slip there, but Im only fishing saturday and sunday.  They wanted me to pay the full $80 for the week.  So Ill just park and launch.  Im in a Bayliner 2252 Express Cruiser, all white, hardtop cuddly.  Go by "Team Thick".  I don't know my MMSI number off the top of my head.  Ill have to look on my VHF when I get there.  PM me with yours and Ill either hail you or catch you at the dock.  I should be there Saturday by 2am.  So far, weather is looking pretty good.

  10. I have been.  the past two weeks.  Water temp there has been sporadic.  Some spots it was in the 55-57 degree range, and then within a half mile it would drop to 47 degrees.  If you can find the warm water, you will catch walleye.  I was using stick baits, spoons, and deep diving crank baits.  Most came off of the spoons.  I did catch some nice sized ones.  One slob at 12.5lb.  Averaging 10lbs

Pay attention to the wind…see where the warm water will be blowing to.

  11. Where you fishing "the mountain" due north out of North East? I've done ok out of that harbor, but the big pigs are out of Barcelona which is only five miles past north east on route 5. If you ever want to fish up hat way just let me know. I can take you right to the hot spots.
