  1. In the 40 years of selling tools and equipment to garages I have never ever witnessed a mechanic use a multi meter to check a battery , even if they did not have a load tester. As a matter of fact I just left a shop where they had a battery that showed 12.6  , put a load tester on it and that showed 62 amps out of a 200 amp battery. Not going to work on a starter that draws more than that number .

  2. Voltage and amperage are two different animals. I can put 8 D cell  volt batteries in a series and get 12 volts , not going to start your engine . A multimeter is pretty much useless in giving you the actual condition , it's all about the amps . How many amps does your starter draw ?  I have a good idea , do you ?

Yes, I am sure there has been some turnover after the major wind events lately. Six feet of snow runoff in Buffalo has had to have an effect on temps. All the creeks around here are raging

Hardly a drop in the bucket and it all ran into running creeks that were warm  or storm drains , that dump into the warm creeks . Like putting one ice cube in hot water in a bathtub and saying that will cool it off . Mother nature will self correct. Last year someone put up a post about it not being frozen over in January. Yep it froze over a week or so later .

  4. Snake oil salesmen . Been putting boats / engines away for over 50 years and have not  fogged and or oiled the cylinders . Never had a issue , engine is only sitting for 6 months and oil resin is on the cylinder walls from normal use .Gas stabilizer takes care of the EFI system.

  5. Sold the Rampage , kept the Whaler ,( per reply up a few post). If the offer was right , way over the asking price as the market has drastically changed since it was listed ,I might sell her  . Looking at what's on the market and quality of those boats puts this around 35, -40,000.00 all day long . I have fished extensively on 27 - 29 Tiaras , 28' Rampage , 30' Pursuit  , 28 ' Albemarle,  all about the same class boat . The Whaler is a better fishing boat than all of the aforementioned boats , hands down , the rougher the better , including the ditch ,it is a tight fishing rig .. Anyone that passed on the original listing blew it . Have a nice day !!

  6. Adding weight has never helped any boat go faster , period . How do you know for sure what motor or motors where on it when it hit 18 mph ? Does the display say what motors are on it for different speeds ? Lose as much weight as you can , foils will cause more drag because your UNDERPOWERED for the umpteenth time.

I am sorry I meant the chemical in the wood reacting to the aluminum.

Yes ,osmoses I believe it's called. Metal will start to pit. And usually it's a lot heavier.

  8. Air doesn't freeze. Best to drain correctly and if compressed air is available blow it out . Pink stuff is good for fresh water system. If you use the pink crap for whatever reason in engine block , I wouldn't count on it not freezing under extreme cold . Have seen it expand  when put in freezer.

  9. Your going to burn 1 gallon per hour with the 4.3 so saving on fuel vs a kicker is minimal. You can idle , just like a car , all day and it will not " load " up . Trolling bags will plant - stabilize your boat when in the ditch . Also if you have to bump up the throttle a little with the bags that helps with oil delivery to the cylinder heads .

  10. The fuel pump is working , otherwise it wouldn't start or run . They are either good or bad , no in between . If it was me I would buy a new or rebuilt one before having mine done local . Maybe try  customrebuiltcarbs.com   which I have used 6 times over the last 4 years on various boats .  Jegs is another option .

  11. When I say "running out of gas " I don't mean how much gas is in your tank. The passageways and or bowl float  check valve are not 100%. When the float etc isn't working your motor will run on the trickle of gas your getting . Give it some throttle and it's now starving for gas. Usually if the points are bad , if you don't have a electronic ignition , it will miss , run rough , but not the same symptoms as your describing . And running it on muffs in the driveway is not the same as being on the lake . You are not putting any sort of load on the engine , so a quick rev is going to use a shot glass of fuel , do that on the water in gear and you have used a cup , bit of a difference in the fuel demand .

  12. Sounds like your running out of gas . When's the last time the carb got rebuilt / cleaned / gone through ?. Should be a off the shelf car coil unless it's for something like a Petronix system. If I had electric issues and it needed some control module I would buy a new electronic distributor for less than 150.00 online and run it direct to the coil before I dropped any stupid money on " there " module .
