Have u ever come across 2 or 3 charters working together in a line coming down the lake with there boards out 150 feet on a side with nothing hooked to them in a pack of boats what a path that is it happened to me last spring I told coast guard they said if I see that again call them and they will take care of them boats doing that

No that's a new one for me, that would suck!

  2. The thing that gets me is we always find our own fish and never go to where other boats are fishing, it's a big lake with plenty of fish to find. As soon as you put the net in they all come running to you, drives me nuts that nobody can find their own fish! Happened to me the last time out in the evening, we got out for a couple hours before dark. Found good bait setup and started catching right away, here comes a big 38 foot flybridge to join us! After ripping him on the radio a couple times he finally left.

  3. "Mechanical speed as we use it is not absolute, but is 100% repeatable. Using your probe speed as a reference point, it doesn't matter if the number is 2.0 or 200 - knowing what the probe speed is at the time of the strike and then duplicating that number is the important thing."

That's exactly right, so when someone asks for a down speed it might be completely different than your down speed. My magic number is 2.6 but someone else might not be calibrated the same to duplicate it.

Go to youtube and watch a video on the bug a salt rifle.  You load about an ounce of table salt in the rifle, pump it once and blast them into oblivion.  It really makes the time between bites go fast.  Several of my fellow boat owners have purchased them and we all love them.  About 40 bucks.  Good way to burn off the aggression when the fish aren't biting.  Best Father's day present I got this year !!!

Won't the salt corrode your bilge pump or other things?

We've tried a couple potions during this most fly heavy season. 1) Mint listerine dumped in a spray bottle--verdict?-- works very short term and then your ankles and boat are sticky. 2) dawn dish soap, regular formula--verdict?-- works better than the mouth wash. I think until it sweats off. 3) skin so soft by Avon--verdict?- works better than either of the above but the smell is so annoying its not worth it.

We have one more to try once we round it up-- pure mint oil.

Vince, Let me know how the mint oil works? I've tried 2 and 3 of your list with a little success. Next on my list is lemon oil, will post how it works!

    Thanks, Bob

I have a 19 footer, deep v. Has nice tall sides. I have thought if I had a bigger boat I would be able fish in rougher water. Then I realized a few things: It is difficult to tend lines when it is rough. I usually have poor luck when it is rough. I don't enjoy it as much when it is rough. So I realized, my boat takes some pretty rough water and any rougher would not be enjoyable. So I think I am ok with my current boat.

That's a good point, I've thought the same thing, I need a bigger boat! But do I really want to be out in 3 to 5 footers.....not really! The only advantage is more tackle storage and maybe a bathroom. I agree the weekends haven't been the best.

  7. Thanks guys! It was our first time fishing the Lotsa and we just didn't know that they would change the weigh in location. It's our fault for not asking, but would of been nice if they made an announcement for the new guys. We'll know for next year, Lotsa is a great organization and a true asset to the fishery, I'm not knocking them. We still had an awesome time and met some great people. The fishing is awesome and will be heading back up very soon.

We fished the Lotsa Tournament and the first day we struggled a bit trying to find the big fish. Only being able to weigh in one fish near twenty pounds. Which we caught at the end of the day in 120 fow in front of the red barn. It came on a rigger 80 down in 60 degree water, kinda warm but feeding on all the bait in the area. Day two we ran west past Wilson and found bait in 220 fow and setup in a small area. We found the larger fish and had a couple mid twenty kings. We get back to Olcott and didn't know the weigh in was held elsewhere on day two, no  announcement was made to let you know. By the time we found out where it was we were three minutes late, and told we were disqualified. Still wanted to go to the picnic but found no where to park our truck and trailer so we skipped the whole thing. Just not run like tournaments in Ohio, oh well. We still had a great time and can't say enough about how great the Olcott launch is kept! Had some paddles custom painted at ASB Tackle and that really helped us on day two, I love that tackle shop! What an awesome fishery! IMG_1789.thumb.JPG.9bef8274b9139895b94326b184152bcb.JPGIMG_1791.thumb.JPG.66894bb2281330b3b9c1059f49a91d73.JPGIMG_1796.thumb.JPG.ff909325bdd9b5725eaf07995ba96627.JPGIMG_1797.thumb.JPG.e202fb7b79e7a8f3f6696dcd90194ba7.JPGIMG_1802.thumb.JPG.96877ed7e0010286fa318f9c51f3175b.JPGIMG_1806.thumb.JPG.34a1a25993a449b6114ec30ae175ee7e.JPG
