  1. That was my thought as well, why have 2 back to back, but what else could be causing this line twist? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. So It sounds like I need a good quality swivel at the termination end, I assume this would be needed for a standard flasher as well or only with the spin doctors? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  3. So I’m new to Salmon, also fairly new to riggers though I have used them for Walleye a few times on others boats. Here’s problem I ran into today, horrible knotted up extreme line twist on mainline from the downrigger release (blacks) to the spin doctor. On the termination end of my main line I was only using a snap (no swivel) thinking the swivel on the spindoctor would be adequate (a friends suggested I use a swivel and snap at the termination end) OR was I dropping the ball too fast (manual cranks) causing a tangle on the way down and the nasty twist was the result, anyone else ever run into a similar issue? 5. We went out of Olcott yesterday from 1-4pm, went west towards Wilson, 18-22 FOW on the way out, water was 37-38.5 degrees, on the way back we ran 8-14 FOW and water temp got up to 41 in shallower, wasn’t muddy on the west side but green stained, I could see the Bay Rats for about 4-5 feet. Never touched a fish though and quite a few boats out. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

    Kicker motor brackets

I have a 17’ aluminum, my kicker motor is short shaft and in any waves over 16-20” it constantly pops out of the water, I need a long shaft but it’s not in the budget right now. My question is can I use a kicker motor bracket to get the motor to sit lower in the water? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

    New to the Salmon Game

I do plan on taking a trip or 2 to get a little more hands on, was hoping to pick up a few “cancellation” trips maybe a little discounted. I’ve fished walleye for years but now I’d be foolish to not take advantage of being so close to this fishery (15 minutes to launch) I made the trip out to brewerton today and picked up some stuff, bigger net, bunch of spin doctors and 20-30 different spoons, few flies. The more I read all the info on here the more I think a trip is best, so many different opinions and options, plus my rig is smaller than most, that will come into play sooner or later too Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  9. I did read thru your post and should have specified I’d be running wire on dipsys. What was the verdict 1000’ wire per reel or 500’ and braid backer? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  10. New to Salmon, recently moved near Olcott/Wilson from CNY So here’s my set-up and plan. Your thoughts on what to change or not to change would be great. First off I run a small 17’ bluefin with a 90 and a 9.9 kicker, I know 17’ I have to pick and choose my days. I have 2 coldwater 303’s spooled with 50# powerpro and 20# big game backer, was going to put them on rigger rods (2-cannon uni-trolls) I got a good deal ($35) on a Magda 45 spooled with 300 copper I was going to run down the shoot (off port side as there’s a gimble rod holder installed already) then pick up a couple reels @ Brewerton show tomorrow to use on dipsys rods, that’s 5 lines. Not sure I feel comfortable with much more on a 17’ tinny. I have a dozen or so flashers/dodgers/spin doctors I’ve picked up here and there, probably 40-50 spoons some new some used, plan on getting some A-Tom-Mik “6 packs” he sells probably in glow and UV to start that collection, NO fish hawk this year but maybe if I win on a scratch off or something but will get one once I’m more confident in my game So am I pointed in the right direction? Tons of valuable info on here if you take the time to read thru it, that’s pretty much how I’ve got this far Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
