If you have trim tabs trim them all the way down. Sometimes that will help to stop the boat wagging back and forth at low speed.
Yea, I tried that, no difference at all.

bait pods everywhere at 80-100 FOW. Nothing on the screen from 100-250. Went 3/3. 2 cohos one steel. All around 22”
side note - seems like I need to trim up even before entering the channel. Was digging bottom with my skeg 20-40 yards before I even entered the channel heading back to the dock.
side note side note - like my new boat. Hate how it’s next to impossible to keep it straight in the low wake zone. Left - right - left - right. That part makes me miss my Tracker. -
Brand new in box - 2x stern savers bright white $40 each
2x cable gland black $20 each
Standard horizon hx210 radio $75
Pickup in Greece off of Vintage.

And the winner is..... There is also something to be said for selecting the same reels for the particular usage e.g. divers vs. downriggers for each setup especially if you have other folks going with you on the boat. With a mixture of reels e.g. one rigger reel that is a Diawa and another that is a Tekota that have a different feel and operate slightly different in the heat of the moment it can create a little confusion and that may be all that is need for a fish to get off.
Yup. I've decided to just grab 2 more tekotas and use my Okuma as my 4th rigger rod (if needed) or backup.

I use Shimano Tekotas 600’s for divers and Saltist 30’s for riggers. You will appreciate the fast line retrieve on the Saltists when a rigger release goes off.
The tekota A actually has a 38in retrieve compared to the saltist 35in. The saltist 40 has a 47in retrieve making it higher than the tekota - but significantly larger.

Actually a member of LOU reached out to me with his boat that wasn't listed for sale. Just waiting on the lien release from his bank before I can go pick it up and move it to my driveway. I'll post details then.

I'm going with 2-102SV Then buying the mapping chip and networking them together.
Sent from my SM-G960U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
I think I might go this route instead of the Raymarine Element that I was looking at - thanks

Pretty sure I’m going to buy one this winter - either the 9 or 12

So what happened with the survey?
Survey went very good - just waiting on the lien release from the seller. I’ll post pics when it’s in my driveway and in my name and not his - although it’s already winterized and wrapped

The new Tekota A was a huge upgrade from my Daiwa Sealines, soooo smooth and love the drag. Now you guys got me curious about the Saltist! Might need to pick up a few to replace my remaining sealines.
Yea, the tekotas seem sleek and streamlined, the saltists remind me of a tank

Both are great reels
I would go with 2 Saltist 40's and spool them up with 30lb test to use with flasher/flies/meat rigs and during flea season, they'll hold almost 300 yds of Sea Flee line.
I have found the line counters on the 40's are just high enough that my arm fits underneath them making them more comfortable to use than the 30's
Use the Tekota's for you spoon rigs with 20-25lb line and you can leader them down for brown trout
I think the 40's are going to be alot bigger than the 30s - have you seen them in person? I haven't so I don't know. but I do like the idea of spooling down the tekotas for browns in the spring

Actually apparently my boat does not have hydraulic steering - cost to upgrade + autopilot etc - not worth it. Gonna go for the Element instead - now if money was no object the $1600 axiom would obviously be the choice over the $999 Element.

The Axiom is awesome -- using mine with Navionics Platinum Plus card and the Raymarine Evolution 150 Autopilot. That combo has caught me hundreds maybe thousands of fish in my first two years as a boat owner. Don't underestimate the chart card -- it's critical to put your boat in areas more likely to have fish rather than just randomly trolling around. It's the only system I've ever owned, so it's hard for me to compare, but people who come on my boat are blown away. Like Rookie, I probably would have considered the Element, which is geared more exclusively to fishing I think, but it wasn't quite released yet. Some of the multi-functionality of the Axiom I probably will never use (like radar, video cameras, flying a drone!!, etc.). Can the Element integrate with Autopilot? That's really nice to be able to touch your chart and have your boat drive itself there. Also the Axiom is able to integrate with my engine data which is nice to have all my data in one spot.
I would compare the capabilities of the built in sounder module of Axiom to Element -- what is the power capability and transducer compatibility? I have the RV-100 transom mount and the high frequency CHIRP is incredible -- high definition. You can spot lake trout /Kings laying in the mud in 120 ft of water, you can clearly spot game fish amongst bait clouds etc. This setup can have some limitations in deeper water; some report ~300 ft as about where it starts to taper off as the RV-100 is only 250 watts I believe. Mounting it properly is very critical for the deep water and going into manual settings (gain/zoom etc) in the deep can still deliver good results. The Axiom Pro has a much stronger sounder module (and much bigger price tag) built in to be able to handle 600-1000w CHIRP transducers for high definition deep water fishing (mainly ocean!).
I ended up adding a traditional 600w Airmar through hull transducer (not CHIRP) to my setup via/ Y adapter cable to have the option to use in 500 ft+ for my future summer King road trips. However, after re-mounting my RV-100 properly prior to my second trip this year, it performed fine in the 300s... didn't have the chance to test it in the 500s.
Thanks - gonna go for the new Axiom+ 9 this winter - so I can install autopilot next season.

This is a valid point for sure. When running at speed, especially if its choppy it can be a little tough to operate the touch screen.
Although for us trollers we spend 95% trolling and 5% running. So for me it's not a big issue.
To answer the question yes I am happy with them.
You feel like the axiom is worth the 3-$400 difference? I love tech, and I like the sleek screen, but not sure if I can justify the extra cost.
-
How do you guys like the Axiom? I'm going to be buying new electronics this winter and I was set on the Axiom, but read a bunch of bad reviews and people saying that the lack of buttons was hard to operate in rougher water - so I was going to go with the Element instead.
You happy with the Axiom? I see they have an Axiom+ out now (not the pro - that one is crazy expensive)
-
Thinking one more tekota, and 2 saltists. Just run 2 of each!
-
To preface, I own 3 Shimano Tekoa A 600's. 2 are my wire setups, and one is a downrigger rod. I also have an Okuma Coldwater for the other downrigger rod which I do not like, going to sell.
I own 2 Saltist LC 20's that I was using for muksy trolling, and I'm going to set them up for browns.
If you were going to buy 3 downrigger reels would they be -
Tekota A 600s? (240 yards of 25# mono)
Daiwa Saltist 40LCHA - (400 yards of 25# mono)
or even Saltist 30LCHA (which is about the same capacity as the Tekota - but less line retrieve.)
-
The boat I'm looking at now has 4 Cannon downriggers already, if it didn't I would have ordered those Magnum Metal
-
Pretty sure I found something. Dont want to jinx it until after the survey

Yea, that's going to be outside of my budget. Damn student loans!

Owner found that the bulkhead was rotted Still looking! - May have to significantly raise my budget to find something worth keeping for the next 10-15yrs

How is the service and support from the Magnum Metalz? I'll be buying new riggers this winter as well. I've had Scotty's which I liked and their customer service is impossible to beat, but I don't like the footprint they take up.
