Last sit of the year today. A couple of does at 15 yards was all. Fun gun season grind this year but the only buck I saw was a spike. I was able to hunt nine different public land tracts and was able to find some big buck sign to target during bow season next year. I think my take away from the public land hunts is we probably would be better served to follow how some states have a simplified method of regulation- your license gets you one buck tag and one doe tag (with no DMP units to add to confusion). Also, the number of land owner tags available needs to be reduced. If a farmer needs more deer shot of their land, they can give permission to hunters looking for a place to hunt.

X2 I hunt my farm and public land simply because I like the big woods an many different bucks on public land. Here in Yates county there is a lot of hunting pressure so in gun season you don't see much anymore even on my land. Seen only 1 buck so far in gun season in many days of hunting. In PA I seen 2 bucks before I got all the way up the tree, one that I shot. See more quality bucks in PA in the years I hunted there. Would love antler restrictions but thats prob not happening so I think 1 buck tag an less doe tags would be the thing. Guess I'll try some walking on new state lands the next days see if I find something I like. Good luck to all!

“Shot” this guy today with my Nikon. Town deer, so he’s safe for now. Walmart is on the other side of that brush. Estimates on score/age? I am not one who cares about score but I am curious. I would estimate 130” and 4.5 years old.

Yes public land. Southern Colorado in the San Juan mountains. We were near Pagosa Springs. Most outfitters are in public land to, one day we hiked half a day over a mountain to a ravine on the other side to a meadow we wanted to watch. Set up camp, still had few hours before dark so I went to watch meadow my brother went the other way, when we got back he said there is outfitter tent about 100 yards from our camp! Next morning we decided to hike back out as they were watching that area!

  4. Been dreaming of an elk hunt for a few years, we made it happen this year as me, my brother and dad went to colorado for the 2nd rifle season. My brother an I also drew a mule deer tag. Left Wednesday morning Oct 21 got there thurs evening. Season opened on saturday. Rented a cabin but me and my brother camped out a few nights so we could get further. Didn't see any bull elk just some cows an calves. Seen a lot of mule deer, brother an I each got one. Hunted till Thursday Oct 29. Had a snow storm come through dumped a foot of snow top of mountains, only few inches down low. Beautiful country out there, and rough country!! Only makes me want to go again!! Maybe with muzzleloader next time during the rut.

  5. A little late report, my buddy had to go to Lansing to pick up combine part so we took boat along and fished out of Myers marina. Went north fished mostly around 100 fow. Finished 6 for 6 all Lakers. All on spoons carbon 14 and chilly Willys. Caught 4 in first half hour then it really slowed down. Fished 9 to 12. Probably last trip for year time to get some hunting in!!

  6. It seemed to calm down a little as the day went on till afternoon it turned more west getting a little more choppy again.                               Good luck to all going out tonight we marked a bit in 150 but they were tight lipped. Lakers in 120 but they wouldn't even touch gambler rigs. The Laker we got was in 90 ft 59 degree water, strange

  7. Finally made it out on the Ontario again, was a bit bumpy for my boat but fishable. Set up in 150 on a west troll wasn't long dipsy out 280 took of screaming after fighting a little I thought I lost him reeled probably 200 feet in with no resistance then he took of again an peeled it all out again. Finally got him in a 23 lb king a best for my boat easily beating my persanal best of 20 lbs. But was very slow after that only getting a 15 lb laker an losing another. Both fish caught on meat rigs. Fished from 9:00-1:00. Did not mark many fish, was first time out with my new helix 7 Gen3 fish finder so still trying to get settings right.
