Looking for someone that can possibly tow a 30’ boat(on its own triaxle trailer) from west palm beach Florida back here to western New York. Looking for any recommendations/quotes

You don’t think those are too stiff? Also the short fore grip is a bit of a deal breaker for me

Looking to go to a shorter and two piece rod this year for storage concerns. Looking for some recomendations. Looking at getting ~20 of these rods and they will be used with leadcore off inline boards for walleye. Trying to stay around $55 or less for budget. Currently im running shimano tdr 8'6" medium actions and have been decently happy. These are the rods ive looked at so far ($55)Daiwa great lakes GL762MF, felt good, light tip and good backbone. If i had to choose right now this would be it ($20)Okuma Classic Pro CPLC70CT, action feels pretty good for the price, have a feeling the components are cheap and wont hold up ($30)Okuma Classic Pro GLT CP-DR-702M, little light feeling, probably too light for higher cores ($30)Okuma Classic Pro GLT CP-DR-762ML, still a little light feeling, wish it had a touch more backbone ($40)Okuma Classic Pro GLT CP-LT-762M, seemed entirely too stiff ($55)Ugly Stik BWDR1220C702, didnt seem bad at all but handle seems bulky and no hook keeper irks me ($40)eagle claw SFX400-7'6, longer top section compared to base wont work for where i want to store them in the boat Open to any suggestions that i may be missing, thanks in advance

Garmin fish finder/transducer
4426 replied to Thayer3047's topic in Welcome to Lake Ontario United - Fishing Forum
i have two echomaps on my boat, one is hooked to the gt15m-ih transducer, and one is hooked to garmins 50/200 transducer. They work decently, mark at speed most times, but in hindsight, i wish i would have gotten an airmar transducer or two(probably a b60 and a b150m for chirp, note if youre networked to more than one echomap its difficult/impossible to recieve more than one 2d image at a time, i dont have mine networked anymore for this reason). -
1- i agree with price should be one of the first things in the ad, not the last. hit the three dots in the top right of the first post to edit the ad 2-no offense but bayliners probably arent the popular choice in this size range, and more and more people are looking for outboards, or smaller dual purpose platforms for the newer style of jigging with a livescope(more so lake erie than ontario). 3- you may have 14k views here but it may be alot of the same members here clicking it multiple times. may have to start listing in more popular places such as facebook marketplace 4-ive been trying to help a buddy find his next boat for over a year now. Theres are LOTS of the same boats still on the market as when we started looking. Hesitation to buy including economy concerns and higher loan rates have affected the market, its not just your boat/ad at all. not looking forward to trying to sell his current rig once he does upgrade

I think people still do the same method, but you just need to become careful as it is an acid you’re dealing with and can definitely cause negative effects(definitely have left some chemical burns on my bare aluminum trailer). The painted surface *should* protect it. I would maybe start with a pressure washer with a wide fan tip, then go from there.

generally ill use lysol toilet bowl cleaner, the black label one that says " lyme and rust" on it. Go down the waterline with it applying a bead then spread with a soft bristle brush, let sit for a minute or so scrub again and rinse off(dont let it dry). may take an application or two. Back when i worked at a marina we would use a pump sprayer with it as well but same general idea edit: this is assuming you're referring to a fiberglass boat that has been kept in the water for the season and youre dealing with the stains near the waterline

Some basics to start with
4426 replied to Ddolan's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
1- braid works with certain releases, blacks and chamberlains yes, just need to make a loop and wrap it a number of times(i aim for 7-10 for braid). pinch pads not so much unless you use rubber bands 2- i let dipseys out slowwwww, generally backing the drag off on the reel most of the way, lever engaged, clicker on. let it out too fast things get twisted 3-5, others will have more experience than me when it comes to salmon fishing. i mainly walleye troll on erie -
i think i would be copying what cisco does diy if i was in your shoes. Shouldnt be too hard, small drill, small tap, and two set screws is pretty hard to beat. i have seen the traxstech stoppers loosen up but its rare and would also provide what sounds like a better solution than what youre working with currently and should fit i would think
-
i guess its hard to say without more detail but to me it sounds like the plastic stopper/cap at the end of the track is no longer holding the thread? if thats the case you can always drill/tap it for a larger size bolt, or drill and tap the rail like Cisco does on their tracks and put a stainless set screw in, or i would have to imagine the aluminum traxstech caps would also fit, maybe a bit of sanding but couldnt imagine much.

just curious when you typically are trying to target those specifically deeper fish; are you slowing the whole boat down and running most of your spread there, or as you put it , "waste a rod down there" meaning only one deep setup? when we were trying last year we were struggling with blowback some on the single pole we had at the depths, using a 16# torpedo weight on a downrigger with braided line, and a large paddle/meatrig combo
-
Thanks for the information, haven’t really considered they might be lakers
-
Thank you for the information I appreciate it! So we have tried it on at least 3 trips last year and have yet to have a hit from the depths while pretty consistently marking ice box fish. I understand a million things can factor into if they want it or not but would you say the chances are generally pretty low for getting a fish to bite out of the ice box or are they not half bad?
-
so i know its early yet to be thinking about fishing cool deep water under warmer water, but i want to hear everyones thoughts on it. Last season we would occasionally mark fish around 150-175'(near bottom where we were) and the temp line was way above them and all our fish were in the top 75'. Now ive had people tell me they'll always keep at least one pole down there in the "ice box" and ive also had people tell me not to waste our time. So whats everyones thoughts? Do certain presentations work better for the deeper fish? certain speeds? im all ears to any suggestions

Lake erie ice for the niagra bar this spring

Gotcha thanks for the ideas. And I should have been more clear, what I was recommending was for musky and not other trolling species. Generally people don’t troll with as much gear out for musky so it’d probably be easier to stop the boat was my assumption. I certainly am not stopping my boat for walleye, salmon, or laker revival as mostly they end up in the cooler but would stop for a musky. Other thing while trolling musky, take your boat out of gear/slow wayyyy downs when hooked up, and use stout gear to hoarse the fish in. The musky won’t get as tired and more likely to survive as well, hopefully negating this whole conversation. Shorter the fight less lactic acid builds up in them. Also helps to only target during cooler months for best survival chances, hot water wears them out fast

Are you trying to do this while still trolling? If trolling I would pull spread and still opt for the hand pulling/pushing method on reviving the fish WHILE boat is stationary. Do this until you feel confident fish can swim. If boat is moving your putting further stress on the fish when doing the push pull method. You can move plenty of water across gills doing this alone. It does take a significant amount of time sometimes. Also I’m curious on your boga grip method, are you bringing that line back in and then opening it and seeing the fish swim off while boat is stationary? Still trolling and leaving fish behind regardless(bad releases happen not trying to bash). How far behind boat? I’d certainly try it for my next laker trip if it works and I know a little more. I’d be concerned with this method for muskies due to their likeliness to thrash, thus resulting in damaged jaws, and for the same reasons musky shouldn’t be held vertically as their anatomy doesn’t allow for much vertical support(continuous pulling from mouth seems a little stressful imho).
