  1. Well, I did my own field testing with the 30lb Big Game line yesterday. Ran 2 rods side by side off the riggers. One with 20lb Flea Flicker and the other with 30 lb BG. The 30lb line failed miserably ;( . It's better than the regular 12lb for sure but still picks up fleas enough to say, "why save your money". The only flea attachment on the Flea Flicker line was at the knot on the swivel connecting the leader.

Now I know why RR goes to 50lb.

  2. way to go ..I like em raw just run the line between the teeth and ya can strip em off and get a nice meal in a hour or so..assuming the fish dont mess up yer spread.......

As for the road kills I always swearve at em for the tackle..if their really bloated ya gotta net em carefully and be shure to "burp em" good before releasing..

: ....and also assuming that your teeth are close enough together to strip`um

  3. No, that wasn't me Scott. I was solo and only ran one wire dip and two rigs :sweating::worried::smirk: . Didn't pick up any legal salmon and one 17" bow. The lakers were running pretty good size early then just the 3 to 5 lb'ers. Weed clumps gave me a fit `cause I wasn't watching what I was doing. :$

I don't like the FF line but just put up with it. I have an extra set of reels on board that are spooled with FF line and just put them on as needed. The reels don't hold much when you have that nasty stuff on but enough to deal with the Finger lakes fish. Frisco bout sold me on the 30lb  `till you mentioned 50lb ^ :shake:

  4. Still fishing from sheldrake to past deans cove. Slow pick on sat but we ended up with a dozen. Same ole program 100 to 120 down 50 to 90 on the riggers and wires out 250 to 300. White or green paddles with big Weenies and R&R spoons in black and purple or green with a white cup.

Sunday was better in the same area and they hit pretty much right up to the end of the trip.

Fleas are bad now. Time to splice in the 50lb to deal with it. Last year they were so bad 30lb was worthless and I'm expecting it to be as bad this year.

Hope to have the new raymarine electronics installed for the next trip.

    Good fishing to you!

    RR

Hi Scott,.......I've been using flea flicker right along and was thinking about trying the 30lb Big Game but after that comment you got me wondering, why bother change?

I was across the lake from you yesterday over in Aurora doing about the same. Didn’t get much of the silver fish but the lakers were looking for a snack.

  5. That sketch is impossible. The minute you pop your dipsey it will be a disaster with line twists and tanges.

The best way (and I learned this from a pro) is to set up normally with one lure behind the dipsey (using a fluoro leader). Then take a second leader and tie it to one of the treble hooks of the first lure - leader must be around 6 feet long, then you put on the second lure. You end up at the same depth, but you do get more concentration of bait.

Won't that kill the action of the first lure?

  6. It is doable. I used something like this > http://www.cabelas.com/product/Fishing/ ... t104616180 and attached one of my cheater lines to it. You can also use a folded clevis,..> http://www.cabelas.com/product/Fishing/ ... t104616180.

I put a small split shot under the slider/clevis lightly crimped just enough to hold it where you want it so if a fish hooks up on that lure it will slide down to the dipsey and trip it. It's a little bit of a pain to deploy but after a few times you'll get your own technique.

I ran it for awhile just because and then abandoned the method and ran more lines ( that's another story). It's a way to get another lure in the water if you fish alone. I did get 2 fish on it once. Fortunately they were undersize AS.

BTW, you'll get more tangels running a cheater over a dodger than you will with this setup as long as you run spoons.

PS: if you are using wire I would put a 8mm bead on ahead of the wire knot so the clevis chafe the knot.

  7. Here is a pic of a fish caught 100' on the dipsey line counter (33' + down) over 50' bottom. Like the others said, doesen't happen often at that depth but does happen.

Hang in there. My best producer deeper than 50' is flies behind a dodger or flasher.

All you have to do is get the first fish on a DF and you'll be sold on then. ;) $$$$$$

  8. I guess I've been pretty lucky. I've been running my units in my driveway since the late 80's to set up the screens and get a idea how the unit worked after I installed them. Eagles, Garmins & Furuno's. They work just fine, never had a `ducer problem and it saved me a lot of time dinking around once I was on the water,.....but that is me.

Tie a plastic bag full of water around your `ducer if that will make you feel better. ;)

My Furuno was on several times in the driveway to interface with two different autopilots and GPS's. I'm a little slow so the last thing I want to do is spend hours on the lake setting up a sonar.

  9. Toad,...I have the same setup as you but took the paddle wheel off ( two screws) `cause I didn't need it. Like the others said, great unit and using it in auto mode works good. You can increase the gain even in auto. Play with that `till you start to see better fish returns and downrigger balls. Also the scroll speed is important .

I sat in my driveway and set my unit up as far as the information on the display I wanted.

( yes it will work in air also, 2' off the blacktop will display about 4' to 5' bottom because sound travels slower in air)

Take the book with you so you can fine the features you want while your fishing.

I'll post a screen shot tonight when I get home. Hang in there. You'll like the unit.

The top of the screen shows the various settings at the time of this picture. Your book will tell what each means.

The speed indication is being picked up from my GPS.

  10. ...just to add another look and see to all that stuff above.

Watch your rod action with a dodger on it. It is pretty easy to tell your speed ( proper lure action) by the pulse of the rod tip. Slow & lazy or fast and erratic. Match your spoons and plugs to what the rod tip is doing.

I think a dodger is the most speed tolerant tool you can have. It works as slow as 1.5 up 3 mph, depending on what you drag behind it and what fish your after.

A thumper rod is a good example.

  11. I spoke with The DEC last week about the problem at the south end.I was told that the lamprey successfully spawned in 2007.They remain in the streams for 4 yr and then are a parasite.

This is where we are at now.The eels then die. I was told that next season there will be little or no eels left.....Zeke & Cyn(Strike 3)

........especially after I cut threir heads off :rofl:

  12. Hi Rollie,.......I fished up the lake north of Long Point. Pretty lack luster for me. Ended up with a half dozen lakers and no silver fish. Plenty of fish up there but just couldn't get my program to kick in. I'll blame it on the moon phase
