  1. I have the 620 because of a space issue. It works vary closely to the 585 except for the screen size and the 585 is a 1000w unit,..620 is 600w. You will not have problem showing the rigger balls if the transducer is aimed right. It has a great picture and detail on auto and even better detail on manual when you learn how to adjust the various settings. Not hard to learn, good instructional manual.

I have the transom mount transducer and it will hold any bottom depth on Cayuga lake at 35mph and show heavy clusters of spiny flees when they emerge. What I can't show is fish when on plane. Maybe I just need to learn how to read. :$

Go to Furuno's web site and down load the .pdf of the user manual and read thru it. You can't go wrong with either unit. ;)

Just added this pic: shows one rigger ball (only one deployed at the time of the pic). Nice bait ball and a few fish looking for a easy meal.

  2. Wow! Could anyone, please, without getting personally defensive or offensive, comment on the question "What is the main, #1 reason anyone wants to have high-volume hydrofracturing processing taking place in their backyard or nearby or regional community?"

....one can substitute any number of processes in that statement to try and get a rise out of some people,...like ...... waste water treatment plant in their backyard,......or slaughterhouse processing plant in their backyard,...and the list will go on if your looking for a argument.

There are plenty of other forums besides LOU to beat the hydrofracking issue to death.

  3. If you are looking for easy on-easy off then I think you would be better off using quick disconnect mounts if you want to take your downriggers off for trailering or just for security reasons.

I have 4 Big Jon's with 6 quick mount positions on my boat so changing positions or just using the boat with/without riggers it’s a snap. I trailer my boat so the riggers are on only when I’m fishing.

Picture shows setup for early spring fishing using 2 riggers for going down and 2 set in the planner(electric retrieve) position. You can see the unused mounts (black) for the outboard rigger position.

  4. I don’t want to get into a debate over this. I am pro- lets get the gas to market, but also want it done in as safe a manor as possible. There are always trade-offs in life and this is no different.

Here is an interesting method of fracking that is virtually unheard of, at least in my area anyway. Why it doesn't get more press is beyond me. Maybe someone here can shed a little more light on this method of fracking.

....just edited this post to add a link that will show a comparison of the fracking processes....> http://www.gasfrac.com/gasfrac_comparison.aspx

  5. It's tough to lose your best buddy. Sorry to hear that that day has come for you Ray. He'll be hard to replace.

It took me to many years to figure out that "man's best friend" really is his best friend.

My pup will be a year old next month and had her first of many fishing trips last Sunday.

  6. At least I know where not to fish now. That's what happens when you take 2 weeks off. RR

Don't feel bad, there are a few of us in the same boat .:(

    Right Kenny?

It wasn't any better up the lake from you. I fished north & south of Long Point on the East side for 6 hours and did a dozen fish. It was pretty lack luster. Couple small lakers & salmon. A few decent rainbows & salmon. It seemed that the bigger fish came from 60' to 90' down although there were some smaller ones mixed in. The dinks all came from sliders so I stopped running them after awhile.

Like you, the fleas were a irritation and the weeds were sporatic.

  7. Nice job  It took us 2 years to get our first 10 lber. Did you get all 3 fish on your new wire rigs? I love when people say lakers don't fight. I've had a few days when my arms hurt from reeling in those lakers that don't fight. Keep up the good work!

Yes your right,... those Lakers DO fight, especially in the spring,...but the real truth about your hurtin' arms is that bodacious copper rig you keep bragging about :o:*

    :rofl::rofl:

You did real good Carolyn. You'll be making a lot of us jealous real soon with the progress your making.

  8. Kidders Landing, west side a couple miles south of Sheldrake.

Two places, O'Malley's and Kidders which are next to each other. We ate there Sunday. Good stop.

PS: 11AM, forgot to mention that you'll be able to bring your dog to lunch also. We brought our dog up to O'Malley's and sat on the deck with her. There was another table that had 3 dogs also.

  9. I was put on to Bar Keepers Friend years ago on a boating forum and can't thank the poster enough for the tip.

I use the powder and just wet a sponge, sprinkle on some BKF and let it dissolve. Then just wipe it on the hull and let soak a few minutes ( don't let it dry) by the time you get down one side the stains are all but gone were you started. If a little stain is still left then I just wipe it gently with the spong and hose off. That's it. The stuff is amazing and to think of all the time I used to waste cleaning the stains off the water line. Save your time and elbow for a few beers. ;)

You can get it just about anywhere if you look for it, Target, Walmart, Grocery store..... http://www.barkeepersfriend.com/where-to-buy/New%20York

  10. Bobber.:wait:.........this is one of those Chevy vs Ford topics.

We can all justify why we use a snubber or not. You'll have to decide what works best for you. Try running a snubber on one dipsey and one without a snubber for at least 5 trips and then decide what you want to do.

I've switched back and forth several times and what I've come up with is that I think a snubber is best used in the spring when the lakers are real aggressive and on steroids. Later in the season when the water starts to warm they just don't have the head shaking impact like in the spring.

I ditto the "sharp hooks" comment also. You'll know your hooks are sharp enough when you occasionally hook a fish on the side of it's head (foul hook :o ) when they hit your offering from the side.

These are what I use and have been vary satisified with them,... 12" clear. Stiff but yet enough stretch to take the shock. Besides online I think you can get them at Gander Mtn.

  11. Andy, you get a big

    atta_boy_copy2.jpg for your win.

Great time had by all that played. My catch was a little embarrasing to have on the scales and it shows me that I have some work to do. I think we placed 35th out of the 33 boats entered. :$

We'll try again next year for sure.

Thanks Split for Chairing this event again this year.
