  1. I added a depth raider 3 years ago, cant live with out it! Speed is the key!

    RR

I should be out tomorrow if anyone cares.

Not knowing my speed I'll be a little slower than you,....so that means I'll see you guys Sunday.18.gif

  2. Different species have their own temp niches, and different species also go 'out of temp' under different conditions & situations. The temp ranges that different species seem to utilize on LO are not the same on Cayuga, and there seems to some significant differences between different Finger Lakes as well . Although I will admit to being fascinated by down temps/speeds I must say that I don't feel married to any particular 'bible' about temps & speeds. I just think the whole ecosystem of bait/phytoplankton/predator fish, etc is too dynamic and fluid (or I'm just too stupid!) to lend itself to hard & fast rules. Having said this I know of a couple guys who use hard & fast temp rules and they seem to catch a lot more fish than I do.

    Here's some 'accepted' guide lines for summer fishing;

    Browns 55-65

Bows (if you can figure this one out YOU ARE A GENIUS) 48-60+

    Lakers 44-48

    Kings 42-46

....think I'll just go fishin' `till you guys figure this out.......5.gif

  3. At 70' the temp was 50 degrees and I'm convinced knowing the speed at that depth does make a difference so at this time I can say there is value in having a probe.

Just out of curiosity Frisco, what was your speed difference between surface and 70'..... 1.gif

  4. Do a search for Furuno 620 and you'll get a lot of good info. I bought one a couple years ago and have been satisfied with the unit. Has many features & capabilities that should make it as easy or custom as you would want. Book well written to help you through some of the more difficult custom settings. Tech support from the manufacture is second to none.

  5. Hey Stinger, do you charge by the hour or do you have some kind of package price program?

They are free to my LOU buddies and come in handy to manage extra rods. Just show them a lot of action to keep them inflated and they'll usually go for the day.0.gif

Let me know how much help you need and were to show up. Just keep in mind that they are on a first come- first served bases.

PM me if you want to be a little more discrete .13.gif

  6. On top of the weather I have labor issues to deal with. I gotta see if I can borrow Stinger's trusty buddies, Honey & Sugar. I'm hoping to get them to cover the midnight milking and then slide back into rod holding duty ! -Andy

Sorry Chowder,..... Honey & Sugar are going to be with me up at Long Point. They do have a couple of their friends available if you really need the help ......

........just let me know and I'll arrange it. 8.gif

  7. Just finished an 1.5 hour hand pump job to get the oil out of the dipstick hole :@ Neighbors probably think I was doing something else  . Anyway, noticed a gas smell in the spent oil. Is this normal for an I/O? I don't see any slicks on top and the oil volume-out was normal.

Gill,....I installed one similar to this>......http://www.amazon.com/Drainzit-Oil-Drai ... B000PDN3HY ..........in my old boat and never went thru that drudgery ever again. The hose just slipped out the transom drain hole and drained all the crud from the bottom of the pan every time. If this type of system will work for you, google "oil pan drain hose". Just find the right size that fits your drain plug and will go thru the transom drain hole.

  8. It needs to be able to support 28 amps and 10 gage wire.

    John

    Wow,.....those BJ's really blow ..............some fuses at 28 amps!1.gif

One way to get 6, 8 or 10 gauge wire without spending a fortune is to use jumper cables. Look around at the auto parts stores and get a good set with stranded copper wire. The nice part about using them is that the wire is flexible . Just use the appropriate ends to terminate.

I used a 8 gauge jumper cable to run power from my battery switch to a power distribution panel that I added to the starboard side of the boat to power my riggers, kicker and other electrical needs on that side. Works great. From there I used goingagain2's tip to the riggers.
