  1. There goes the neighborhood  Nice ;) , 400 views and counting, I was wondering why its getting so crowded on the lake :clap:

....well sliderman, while you are at your office dreaming of all those bows on skinny, two of your buddies have read the above reports and are now out on the lake reducing the number of rainbows for you to catch.9.gif

    Rod,

I'm glad to hear you've had a good experience with Raymarine. They've been great to me this year as well regarding my X-5 Sportpilot which got recalled over the summer. I bought it through an online dealer who wouldn't support the recall - instead I was told to directly send my unit back to Raymarine.

When I called the support technician, he gave me his personal desk phone number, sent me a postage paid sticker to send the unit back and already reserved a "new" unit in my name once they receive my defective helm drive. It would have been easy for them to "pass the buck" to the retailer, but I was impressed with the support.

    Thanks for sharing,

    - Chris

Disclaimer - I have no personal or financial ties to Raymarine

Chris,.....I've been interested in that X5 to replace my existing autopilot but held back when the recall started earlier in the season. Just wondering if you would give us a post on the status of the X5.

    Thanks

  3. Fished yesterday (Monday 10/5) up around the Long Point area. All fish caught were in the 50' to 80' range, mostly over 85' to 125' bottom. Spoons at 50' & 60' would only produce dinks in the 15" size, 9 LL’s, 1 rainbow and 1 eyeball. The LL's must of been hitting on the side of the spoons because I got 4 of them foul hooked on the side of their heads hence the eyeball must of popped out on one fish. Lakers hit flies off the rigger 70'-80' & dip @ 200'-230' # 2 setting. Boated 9 lakers from 15" to 23". Lots of bait and it was all on the bottom at 80'-90' or suspended at the same dept close to structure. Tried plugs on the surface, then with a ½ oz drop weight and then off the ball @ 15', 20', 25', 35' & 40',.....no takers

Winds picked up about noon so I packed it up. Hope to get out a couple more times before Lil’ Buddy goes into hibernation.

  4. I thought I'd post this here for those that may trailer from this area and would like to keep ethanol out of your boat as long as possible..

The Citgo station on the corner of Exchange & Susquehanna Streets does not have ethanol in their fuel.

Asked the owner because I did not see any stickers on the pumps indicating that there was 10% ethanol in the fuel. He said that his tanks & supply line could not be used for that blend and that he was not going to pay to have the system upgraded. I asked if he would be forced to upgrade and he said as of right now there is no mandatory directive so he'll just keep everything as is.

  6. I am new to the forum and saw this old post. I am looking for any information/owners manual for this unit. I purchased a used boat and it seems to be "searching" but does not track to the correct heading. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Check out were the fluxgate compass is and be sure that you don't have any magnetic objects near it,( ie. radio, cd player, speakers, tackle box, etc) as those items may interfere with the true course heading. Also on the right side of the control unit there is a knob that is the gain control. Use that to dial in amount of correction in varying types of seas.

    Good luck.

  7. Matt,.........thanks for explaining what is causing the problems with the 19 strand wire. Most of the guys (& me) will understand the cause & effect of the spooling process. I was ready to just leave this new(er) style wire to guys like you and continue to use the 40# 7 strand wire from McMaster-Carr that has been good to me. I remember the first year I started using stranded wire and all the problems I had with kinks & break-offs. It was only after a few of the guys here explained how to treat wire did most of the issues go away.

When it's time for me to respool with new wire I'll surely consider the 19 strand wire now that I understand what to do and how to avoid the main issues (kinda like women, they each have their own little piss-offs that you need to understand0.gif ). In the meantime I'll also be watching this topic for further input from the guys to see if these issues disappear with experience.

    Again thanks for explaining.

  8. bigweenies,......

I see in your website that the heads are available with the leader setup. Are the heads for sale seperatly?..or do I have to buy the entire leader also?

I like to make my own flies so the heads would be of interest to me if available. Thanks.
