  1. Bruce, We were working that area this morning also. Fished from 7:30-11 am. We did 3 steelheads 3#, 6# and 9#. All on the surface with the Stinger steelie stomper pulling the 2 smaller fish and a black and silver yozuri grabbing the 9 lber. We were working between 90-140 fow. What boat was yours? What channel do you sit on? I think my GPS kills my VHF signal but we were all close together so if someone was talking I hope I would hear it. I'll try to post some pictures later.. Good Fishing. John
  2. Ran down to Braddock's from the river this afternoon and wasted a lot of gas. Set up in 60 fow and worked between that and 240 fow with nothing to show for it. Had a couple of slight temp breaks out there and the down speed changed up to a mph but nothing going on. We actually only marked 3 fish the whole evening with two of them being 190 ft. down over 210 fow. Water temps from 46 - 42 degrees mostly. If your derby fishing go west, far west. John
  3. Hank, Do you have a number for the Sodus Prop Shop. Thanks, John Buttino
  4. Moto, Just wondering what the other 50 boats I saw trolling in the lake had done? I know a few that went up to the 104 bridge without a touch. John
  5. Man, I think I counted over 50 boats yesterday off the mouth of the river and nothing to report??? We did one king in the river around 6:30 am off a silver bullet #4. Only saw 1 other fish caught again in the river near the mouth. Packed up around 9:30 am, lake seemed to be getting rougher and alot of boats started trolling the river. We need rain to get these big boys in. I never thought I'd be hoping for rain. Good fishing John
  6. Seemed like a struggle this morning for some reason. VHF blew a fuse and Fishhawk once again on the blink. Did a laker and a king about 10 lbs. each. Had two other rips on the wire one bit off the fly :x , that same fly took all 4 hits this am. Fleas are unbelievable. This year I switch to 25# test from 30# test and I'm beginning to think that it was a mistake. The wire is even heavy on the fleas... See ya in a week up to the Adirondacks with the family. John
  7. Well, got down to the dock at 5:30 and none of my buddies showed up so I figured what the hell I'll give it a try. At one point I counted 20 boats between Braddock's and the River. Ended up 2 out of 4. At around 8:00 the wire started singing, so I grabbed that, about 10 seconds goes by and the rigger pops, I reel down and that too starts singing. Doubles on kings are fun with 2 people on board but by yourself it kind of turns into work. Anyways after three net attempts I get the first fish in, quickly pop it out of the net and get back to the other rod. I get the second fish to the boat and he never really had to fight that hard since I wasn't pressuring him so after the 500 ft. initial run he just sat out there while I fought the wire fish. Well he gets to the boat and he's pissed after running around riggers and motors I slide the net under him. I usually just guesstimate the fish weight but I figured these two look big. I get out the scale and fish one 27# , fish two 26# . I start to revive fish 2, and he swims away fine, fish 1 took 3 minutes but seemed to swim away after sitting on the boat deck for 5 minutes. Had one more downrigger rip after that and packed up around 9:30. Boy this fishing is like work, but I'm sure I was smiling the whole time!!!! Good Fishing!! John On a side note, I'm getting a lot of VHF interference when my GPS is on. They are mounted next to each other in the hardtop. Any suggestions??? I can hardly hear anyone talk but when I shut off the GPS it is clear as day. Any help would be appreciated. John
  8. Got on the water around 6:45 last night. We also had a hard time keeping the riggers in the right temp water. The only good troll we could get was ENE, any slight variation and our lures were moving 1.6-1.8 mph. The thermocline seemed to be in a real tight ban, which depending on speed was between 110-120 ft. down on the riggers. Anyways did 3 lakers 8-13#, one got hooked in the belly some how off the rigger, we thought we had the loch ness monster at first, deep steady pull on the line. Only to find out it was a chicken, slimy bastard too. Also my 8 year old son caught a 15# king on the wire. My hands are a little cut up from trying to help him get the fish in. It had a huge eel stuck to it somewere in the 16-18" range. That was it, my daughter had had enough by 8:35 so we got off the water. Only to be greeted by the Coast Guard coming into the river to check out the boat.... Good Fishing... John
  9. Mark, I should have called last night. I caught a glimpse of a boat a little deeper to the east. I was between the river & Russell hovering around 120-150 fow. Did a brown and a hot king between 7:30 and 9:00 pm. Couldn't get the fishhawk to work again so we were just fishing the marks. Brown hit 95 ft down, king hit mag dipsey on #2 out 225. John
  10. Started off in 100 fow pulled an 11# king right off the bat 56 down 42nd spoon. Laker 80 down over 130 fow. Fish of the morning a nice sheepshead on the famed habenero!! One more small rainbow 75 ft. down over 240 fow. Had some trouble controlling the boat with the strong south wind this morning so we packed up around 9:30 am. Nothing on dipsey's and nothing on flies. Have a great day. Hopefully the sun will shine. Good Fishing! John
  11. Started off shipbuilders in 70 fow around 6:45 pm trying for some browns. We had 62 degree water to the bottom. We marked quite a few 30-70 down with bait but nothing doing. Moved out to 105 fow and did 4 kings, 9#, 7#, 3# and a 1# monster. All fish were caught 90-100 ft down on the cable doing 2.8-3 mph at the probe. No pattern, 3 spoons, 1 spin dr. We had 3 kids on the boat ages 5, 6, 8 they all thought it was pretty cool other than my 8 year old trying to handle the 10ft. wire rod out 250. The ENE wind started kicking up 2-3 footers so we headed in around 8:15. At least some good action for the kids. It sounds like the decent water temp is higher in the water column west of here. Good Fishing. John
  12. Anyone been through there lately. I was wondering if I can get in/out with my 22 ft., draft 3 ft. or so. John
  13. Out for a couple of hours this morning. Pulled 2 nice steelhead 9# and 12#. The 9# came 90 ft. over 125 fow, fought like a laker, real skinny with a big head, male, on a NBK stingray. The other 12# hit a steelie stomper 10 ft. over 170 fow. Nice break out there but not many fish holding on it. Only had a couple of hours to work it though. Work sucks!!! Good fishing. John
  14. COLD!!, Cold weather, cold water. Managed to pull 3 rainbows (steelhead) this morning. All off the surface in 90-100fow. All on the steelie stomper stinger. Largest was pushing 8-9 lbs. Beautiful fish, great air off the waves. Hopefully this northwest wind will blow in some warmer water. Heard a few charters off Braddock's doing about the same with the steelhead. I hope the one guy gets back his "Pink Planer Board." Had a good laugh with that one.... Who knows maybe that west wind will ship those kings down from Wilson. Good Fishing!! John
  15. I'm looking to upgrade from my 22ft. Grady I/O to something newer. The problem is I really want outboards but I'm not sure how it is trolling with a 225 hp 2 stroke outboard? The other problem is handling fish around these stupid euro-transoms with twin outboards hanging off the back and mounting stern facing riggers with the outboards way back there. I would also consider inboards but it seems you have to get into the 30ft. range and I really want to stay in the 26-28 ft. range. It just seems that outboards are easier and less problems compared with I/O's. Oh yeah, there isn't enough room for a 4 stroke kicker either on the twin outboard boats I've been looking at. If anyone has fished off a similar outboard powered boat I'd be open for opinions... Thanks, John
