  1. i would say that it is alot like any other lure. guys have their favorites and certain colors work better than others depending on species and depth. The major difference with flies is the attractor (flasher, dodger, etc) does the majority of the enticing.

  2. i have a eskimo mako 8" and it works great for the amount of ice we get here. i would stop in and talk to the guys at mitchells (on lake ave). they will be able to give you a great price on what ever your looking for. if your looking for a manual hand auger i have one in my garage thats 5 years old and barely used (trade me some beer and its yours).

  3. Fished the south end of Irondequoit bay in 25 fow i front of the R&G club. the action wasnt hot and heavy but rather a slow pick for most of the morning. ScottB and I managed about 40 keepers w/ the same number of throwbacks. tipdowns w/ fatheads and niagaras took the majority of the fish but ScottB took a few jigging too. plenty of ice out there (5+") and plenty of guys fishing it too.

  4. slow fishing. the guys with me concentrated their efforts on pike and didnt have a flag. i spent the day chasing perch with very little luck. had a half dozen keepers amongst the couple dozen dinks. niagaras on the tip-downs and jigging rods with the same caught the fish. everyone who stopped to chat said its been a slow week there and they really had to work hard for what they kept. it can only get better there, i cant imagine anything much worse.
