word of the day was "sloooooow"
dont know if it was a case of "YOU SHOULD OF BEEN HERE YESTERDAY"?
3 guys w/ tip downs iced 12 keeper perch tossed back a few dinks.
saw a few perch caught and maybe 6 or so pike too.
perfect day for fishing just not for catching.

good ice on the NE corner, alot of fisherman and alot of fish too. 5 tip downs and 4 jigging rods produced about 60 keepers. about every 3rd fish over 8" w/ a few over 10". action was quite steady throughout the morning.

merry christmas and happy new year to everyone.
hopefully santa will bring us lots of new stuff!

the ice was great but we were also close to shore. will it survive the warm spell? im sure it will but it will be a mess.

a dozen perch but dont forget about your dogfish...........................

the probe rigger always goes in first then....
in spring ill take care of the boards first then play with some spoons on the riggers
in summer it depends on where my hot bite is coming from and where temp is. my set up plan could change daily.
in fall i almost always start with the riggers and then set my dipseys

very nice!!

is it a lack of hunting or lack of hunters, no one else witnessed the rut?
-
i dont know about you guys but i keep a bowhunting journal to help make better decisions on not just where and when but also rut timing.
for me i noticed scrape and rub activity increasing on the october 25 and witnessed
my first hot doe on october 27 (w/ 3 bucks in pursuit). for the next 2 weeks the rut resembled the traits of a classic trickle rut.
im curious when you guys observed the peak of the rut?

hey times two,
they never gave me a "booklet" to reference. the only thing they gave my group was the regulation guides for hunting and fishing.
-
i took the test this summer for hunting and fishing. i actually took 4 tests. 1 for hunting, 1 for fishing, 1 for general guiding, and 1 for boat and canoe use. the tests are mainly regulations and emergency situation questions. they only provide you with the regulations guides (hunting and fishing). they provide you with absolutely nothing really to study. it was suggested to study the bsa fieldbook. i would suggest also reading the regulations guide and general small boat safety info
example questions-
what is the min length for bass in lake champlain?
what is the maximum number of hook points allowed?
the tests are all multiple choice w/ four possible answers.
hope this helps

thats great!!

Mark,
id have to agree with you 100% and im sure the poll will say most of the board members do too.

my advice to you is to browse this site as much as possible and try to absorb what you can. there is probably a post on everything you could possibly need to know. once the fishing starts (late march) continue to check the fishing reports and see what guys are doing. guys will post where, what, when, how, and why. also a marine radio tuned to your ports favorite channel is a great tool while on the water.
