October 19 pm 50 degrees NE wind 5-10 mph Cloudy Rain/sprinkle Figured it would be a decent night in stand considering the rain let up about 3 or so. Started the pm hunt with a curious doe who came out into the field to greet me as I was walking in. She had no issue with me walking by and heading to my stand. About 530 I had an encounter with a good buck (see pics). He came in over my left shoulder and of course never heard him. I pretty sure he saw me turn my head. He stopped and stared at me. He did the head bob thing until eventually he decided to take a right turn and go out into the field instead. Had him at 10 damn yards. Ugh. On the way out I was almost to the truck and I thought I bumped a doe. I stood there a minute and out comes a buck. He then chased her all the way across the field. Not a lot of deer seen but some cool action. Sent from my moto z4 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

October 18 pm 60 degrees S wind 15 mph Cloudy skies Scrapes are fresh on the way in. Not a whole lot of action this pm. One small buck feeding in the winter wheat would be all I saw for my efforts. 60 degrees and breezy just never seem to be great sits. Pulled a card and repositioned the camera so it is on the primary scrape. Sent from my moto z4 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

The reason for the lack of reports is because I have been a little hiatus with the wife. Normally we get out of the country for a vacation in October but with the obvious state of the world right now that just isn't a reality this year. Instead we spent a long weekend in Alex Bay and that should put me in good standing with the wife for the remainder of the hunting season. Back at it this afternoon! A grunt tube is no doubt the single most important tool in the deer woods. Strategy changes depending on the situation. Early in the season I may just do some contact grunts when I have eyes on a shooter in hopes of getting his attention and enticing him into range. As late october approaches I grunt at nearly every buck I see. Young bucks tend to respond very well to calling. They will then become a live decoy and help create a scenario that there is more than one buck in the area. Of course you are hoping there is a big buck around. If I hear grunting I tend to mimic what I am hearing. This has put more deer instantly in my lap vs everything thing else. There is no better time then when a buck or bucks chasing a doe. A tending or contact grunt in this scenario creates the illusion to any trailing bucks that you are the buck that has the doe in his sight. Blind calling has had it's moments but has never been a great strategy for me. It has put small bucks within range but i don't a situation where I called in a big buck. The best potential certainly lies within the rut. The best overall advice on strategy is don't be afraid to use a grunt tube. Sent from my moto z4 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

October 13 pm 62 degrees Part sunny West wind 15 mph becoming calm Had an encounter with a stud tonight but unfortunately it wasn't until 715. Had him within 15 yards of the stand. Ugh. Not even sure which buck it was because it was too dark. Ill check the camera the next time I'm there. Deer everywhere this afternoon. Once 530 hit deer began pouring out the the cut soy beans. I'm guessing I saw close to forty. Six bucks. Two shooters (the one I had visit the stand in the dark and a big eight across the field from me). Good night of action. Some chasing. Does are starting to get a bit edgy. Sent from my moto z4 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Well...I'm in a tree stand so I guess I can't complain but... 1. I wish I had my binoculars (forgot them in the truck) 2. The wind could chill the f*** out 3. Could we turn the heat down? 67 degrees is a bit warm Saw a herd of turks on the way in. I'm expecting most of the action will be in the last hour. Here a pic of the 2.5 year old buck that got a pass from me last night. He's a decent buck. He's unusual. His right side it typical and his left side is nontypical. He has a three inch kicker sticking straight out of the base also. Very cool looking rack. #giveitonemoreyear Sent from my moto z4 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

October 11 pm 55 degrees Partly sunny NE wind 15+ calm by dusk Sat on the sidelines this morning due to the never ending winds and double down on a pm sit. Got in early but never saw my first deer until 615 ish. Two bucks ( 1.5 and 2.5 year old), a doe, and a fawn this afternoon. It was fun watching the two bucks spar, work scrapes, and harass the does. The crazy is coming. Sent from my moto z4 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

October 9 pm 67 degrees SSW 5 mph Partly sunny Showed up to the spot this afternoon only to find the farmer cutting the beans. He was about 90 percent done so I decided to wait it out. Within five minutes of them leaving a family of three showed up. Within 15 minutes there were 10 deer in the field. Within 30 minutes there 20. It's was like they were waiting for them to leave. All in all a great night on stand. 30+ deer. 7 bucks (shooter 8 pt, 2.5 year old 8 pt, and five young bucks). Bucks were annoying the does. Saw some mild chasing. Sparring. Lots of posturing by bucks. Fun night to be out there. Sent from my moto z4 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

October 8 pm 57 degrees Partly sunny NW wind 5-15 Hunted a new set tonight. I hung it maybe a month ago. Truly looks promising. Walking in this afternoon I hung a new camera. As I went to turn the camera on a buck busted out of the corn and ran by me. He was close enough to touch. 1.5 year old and apparently he was being chased by another 1.5 year old that also emerged from the corn. His antlers were tangle with a tree branch and a vine. Pretty funny to see. 3 little bucks this afternoon along with the does. Sent from my moto z4 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
