First off I am NOT complaining about the $200 we won but in talking to a couple of people they brought it to my attention that the payouts seemed a little out of whack.
Should the payouts be divided up a "little" differently. The way I look at it the overall winner is a bit high. If lets say 4 guys are entered in the derby at $30 each that's $120 + boat and travel gas @ $2.75 - $3.75 per gallon whether it's from out of state or just a few miles away + food and drink + tackle (I am spelling this out for Ray K's sake ) they finish with a fish that is one of the 80 biggest fish caught by what was approximately 1,760 fisherman entered in the fall derby fishing X amount of hours in the derby and they get what $50 say for one of the 16-20 place fish? That only covers 2 guys entry fees and seems very low for a 20th place salmon (in this case) that in this falls derby was only 6lb 6oz smaller than the winning fish
Now I am not saying to change the format completely but maybe it needs to be tweaked a bit here or there. I think the $2,500 for 1st place division fish and $1,000 for 2nd place division are OK. It might also get more people to enter if they have a "chance of getting a little more back" than what they invested.
I personally spent well over the $100 (my share) in gas, food, drink and travel that we won on my boat fishing and we had the "9th overall" biggest fish .
Just throwing it out there for discussion

Good question Foster. I had a number of people ask me about this same thing. I only wish I was in 6th at the time instead of 9th

tom you lost weight .................oh never mind thats a big fish.. ...ill bet you remained very calm throughout the whole fight. comon i know you got a hidden story.
Ray we didn't think it was that big of a fish with the way it fought (maybe a big steelie we thought). One good run and then it came right to the boat and didn't look huge, kinda like you used to be short and FAT until I got it in the net and went to lift it
As far as staying calm you bet, until that bad boy hit the deck then it was high fives and get the gear in and lets run. The bad part was when we made the run and Kirk was driving and the boat engine shut off just about 1/4 mile from the creek . Ran the engine oil out but had a little to put in and we were good to go
You wanna come out here and we can show ya how to get the big fish next year for the PRO AM

Great fish and that's another one out of Sandy creek in the last 2 days (our 34.08) which is really great to see after the slow king fishing lately.
Sorry you weren't in the derby but keeps ours in 6th so thanks
