  4. does anyone know anything about marine radio scrambling or codes typically used on lake o. any advise on icom purchase compatible with those used by local pro's?
  5. in some places on the other side of the globe they wipe with their one hand and shake with the other. just saying!
  6. hey walleye magic, i heard you on 68 a couple of times and you sounded really close. I was in chaumont bay and we really struggled with two 4 pounders Saturday and none Sunday. I was going to call you and ask how you were doing but it was a little crowded and didn't want to ask too much info over radio. we did one on spoons and one on thunder stick off boards with four split shot.. also had some fun off of shangri la with brown trout. we gave up monday and hit the lake for some lake trout action. chris
  7. are the results from this posted ?
  8. since were all "chomping at the bit" to get out there next week i want to suggest giving this post a little boost and if willing we can help each other out and some of the lesser experienced guys will benefit. I know the "eye" fisherman are very secretive however i don't see any harm in posting methods of catching those golden crescent beauty's. After all what has worked in the past isn't often what will work in the future. for me i seem to do the best on Michigan stinger spoons. modified green dolphin and white icicle colors working the best. we run them on long leads off the riggers 100-150 ft. and off the boards with split shot to get to desired depth. also i have had good success with 45# copper and verry long mono leader. generally i target my presentation within 5' of bottom. As the season moves on and the fish go out toward open water i tend to struggle in this area. also we target salmon more at this time. in the black river bay i have done well drifting worm rigs as well in early season only. any of you other guys willing to discuss your success would be greatly appreciated chris
  9. I will focus on three mile bay and chaumont bay first as i have a camp on three mile bay. If we dont have much luck there we will probably venture into guffins and black river bay. I will try to contact you guys on 68 to share any info. chris
  10. Ill be fishing chaumont, three mile, black river bays 5/5 through 5/9. White 23' seaswirl striper . anxious to compare notes with anyone willing. The biggest question i have is have they headed out of the bays with the warm weather we have had? chris
  11. yes caught one by accident while salmon fishing the black river in dexter. about 20 lb. no pics as we did as quick of a release as possible.
  12. is your boat still for sale and were are you located
  13. ok mike keep in touch. it was a great exchange of information. I do a mixture of black and salmon river fishing until the run finishes up. I would like to learn more about the walleye fishing you do so send me a pm if you have a chance. good luck chris
  14. The lake flipped. cold water way up near surface. they have scattered as a result. I fished this past weekend and it was tough for us? There were verry few marks on sonar and i really diont think everyone else had any luck either. im going to give it one last weekend on the lake and focus on river fishing. good luck chris
  15. there staging for sure. we did 20 kings and 10 lake trout from the 7th thru 11th. mornings they liked white spin dr. with green fly. afternoons were chrome with green spin dr. with green fly and also meat rigs on wire set 200-240 on #2. we did well from association island to lighthouse on 120' contour line 1.8 to 2.0 down speed. good luck chris
  16. Looking for a few opinions to settle an on board dispute about spoon size. Personally i have only caught salmon on magnum size spoons. I buddy of mine wants to put out the smaller spoons and we don't seem to have success on them? what do you all think? chris
  17. we fished saturday am and pm. fished the haystack area in the morning and did 8 lakers to 10# and 2 kings with the largest at 20#. went back out in the afternoon and had a slow pick until about two hours before dusk. for about an hour we had continuous action on kings with the largest 22#. Went 4 for 6 with a miss on one double. total for day 10 lakers and 6 kings. Im not going to post too much on set up since its loc however you guys who have been keeping this thread going can gladly send me a pm . good luck chris
  18. we fished the shipping lanes Saturday am. in an attempt to be on the wind blocking side of big galoo. nothing doing out there. saturday evening the lake was much calmer so we headed for the haystack and fished over 130-140 fow. took two lakers one at 5# and a nice 12#er. had 4 teenage king runoffs on #2 setting 280-350 dipsys but finished 0-4 with more equipment failures . everything on white spin dr fly combo. ended the evening short limping back to port with a fouled plug. Sunday was the fix everything day and we stopped at fat nancys on the way home to pick up two convectors loaded with wire for next week. we will be there again this saturday
  19. i will be there this weekend but it looks like weather will be against us. 2-3 footers could turn into a rough day. hoping for the best good luck chris
  20. hi jeffinsackets If you are going to fat nancys here is what worked for us on kings. dreamweaver spin doctor white with black spots with atomik live series fly in green variations behind it. on a mag dipsy with 2 setting let it back 280 to 340 in the deep water. on a rigger go down 80-110 best of luck ill be there 0n 8/6 weather permitting chris
  21. hi seans45 welcome aboard. If you are sailing from cape Vincent the closest area you will encounter salmon lakers and other tasty species in the trout family would be in the shipping lanes. if you put the back of your boat in line with the southern tip of big galoo shoal and the front in line with main duck island sail until you see the dropoff were it goes from 80' to 140' sharply. that is the edge of the shipping lane. troll along that wall in a southwest direction and you should pick up plenty of lakers close to bottom and some salmon. Beware though the bottom comes up quick and there are some wicked currents in that area. the trench lies between the Henderson high rocks and stoney island and in length between the Henderson cut and beyond the lighthouse. The deep water comes in pretty close to the high rock side of the trench. If you head in the direction of the power plant visible to the south you will find a finger or square haystack looking structure on a topo map. that area has been the best for me this year but its a pretty long distance from cape Vincent. Surprisingly the trench has been pretty productive early this year and will only improve in the late sumer early fall. there will be a crowd usually however if you are a beginner if is a good place to follow others and match direction and speed. if you have more questions let them fly on this post and there is many wonderful sportsman who will help you out best of luck chris
  22. hello jeffinsackets. if you are a freshman in the trench i'm only a couple of years senior however there are plenty of things i have learned over the last couple of years and this website is a priceless place to get info from many wonderful fisherman. I will be fishing the 13th 14th 20th 21st and 30th through sept 5th. Id like to keep this thread going and i will continue to post my results. towards the second half of august post will become scarce as many of us compete in the loc derby however you can feel free to pm me and i will compare notes if it will help. my friends and i fish in a 23' seaswirl striper with a pirate flag on the vhf antenna and we will answer to the boat name salmon pirate on ch 18 or 19 . The same welcome extends to all on this post. good luck chris
