Howdy all,
Shakedown trip for me today. Launched from Henderson around noon into a 5-10 mph North breeze.
I trolled in the harbor from around Henchen’s, to Campbell’s Point. The water was crystal clear, so the catching was non-existent.
I took a ride, and went through the cut
, thinking that the open lake was going to be too much for the 19’ Starcraft. Wrong.
I set up with three rods, and headed south. A mini diver, a 2 core, and a one ounce snap weight. Stayed in 20’ or less. The water had a fair amount of color, but no real stain.
Trolled south for about a mile, took 3 fish, one on each rod. One on a blue dolphin, one a blue tux, and the third a fire tiger smith wick. Water was steady at 43.5*
I trolled back north through the same water, same lures, same rods- nothing.
All fish looked very similar, 22” footballs, and fought like champs. All went back for for, someone else.
It was nice to be out, and to have everything running well.

Well I’ve been retired from teaching for about 12 years so I don’t often hear Mr. Legg these days. Are you a former student?

I don’t believe so. Simply a fellow north country fisherman trying to be polite and courteous.

I was happy to see changes in the situation with access to launches. However, this brings about great responsibility to those choosing to use them. Please be extra cautious about social distancing, sanitation, masks, etc. We’re not over this pandemic by a long shot. I do believe if we follow the rules the risk of infection from launching is minimal.
That said if rules are not strictly followed or launches are seen as a point of infection they will again close down quickly. Also I personally believe we should not travel far from our home area for fishing access. This could increase the risk of exposing other or ourselves. Let’s all use good judgement.

It's a good thing auto accidents aren't contagious.
Well said. It’s not possible to compare the two numbers.

I just read the executive orders on https://www.governor.ny.gov/executiveorders and can't find anything mentioning the closing of boat launches.
I even searched "boat" and "launch", and still nothing.
Does anyone have a copy of Cuomo's executive order shutting down boat launches?
The DEC website only says "To limit the community spread of COVID-19, use of all DEC-owned boat launches is temporarily suspended for recreational boaters."
Here is a link to the DEC website https://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7832.html.
Thanks for any info.
I haven’t been able to find a copy of the executive order either. The only place I read about NYS boat launches is on the NYS Empire State Development site.

Paragraph 13

Can you post the link to,that please ?Can’t seem to find it using the text in your post.
# 14 on the current FAQ list refers to a different topic.

The New York Empire State Development Corporation is now saying golf courses aren’t really “closed”. People can now golf, if they abide by a set of requirements. I’m of the opinion that if golf courses are open on a limited basis, boat launches can be as well.
Does anyone have more information on the alleged “clarification” from NYESD referred to by the City Manager of Ogdensburg that allowed her to reopen the boat launch in that city ?
I think that information would be helpful in resolving this issue.
Thanks- Rusty

I stopped at Keewayden and Krings Point State launches and both are open as is Wellesley Island. 2 village launches in Alexandria Bay are open and one at Goose Bay and Fishers Landing are open. Also talked to Border Patrol I saw and he said as far as he new they were open if no barricades are up. Time will tel but I have a friend with a private launch and another friend with a dock he offered so I’m in pretty good shape. Still only fishing solo or with my wife and don’t have to travel over a few miles.

And yet DEC seems to encourage fishing with their weekly report and yet in the same breth they are saying all DEC boat launches are closed through 4/29
Boat launches closed ?
What’s your source for that information ?
Thanks

The city of Oswego has issued a no travel ordinance. If you can’t travel , you can’t launch a boat. Launch is closed till travel ban is lifted
