  1. I use Shakespeare pl-259G coax connectors ( same used on vhf radios ) and pl-258 connector between them. The pl/259 is dependent on the size of your coax I need 8x. I’ve used this system for years on cannon speed & temp and intellitroll. I have also used mason tackle coated cable forever. 300 ‘ spool of 150 # coated runs in the $50 range. There are cheaper connectors available on eBay and Amazon can’t vouch for quality
  2. Fat Nancy’s, all seasons , a-Tom-ick , fish307 All reputable dealers
  3. Good advice. LO is an inland sea and can’t be underestimated . Small boats are fine for inshore spring fishing , but later in the season ( like now ) , the fishing moves offshore and a 20 mile run to fish is normal. A seaworthy vessel is a necessity. It can go from calm to 6 ‘ waves in very short order. Ask me how I know 😝. A vhf radio is a life saving addition to your gear
  4. It to mention the fact that June is a notoriously sloooow month in the eastern basin. LT aka mud chickens , will usually cooperate in 150 fow fishing cowbells and gambler rigs or spin n’ glows close to the bottom. Keep the speed below 2 mph
  5. There is a school of thought that the cable hum actually attracts fish
  6. That's exactly what they are LO has a huge population of Gizzard Shad The DEC needs to find out what caused this die off
  7. Here’s the rule Get Your Vessel Inspected Regulations to prohibit bringing aquatic invasive species into Lake George began with the 2014 boating season and continue today. Vessel inspection technicians must inspect every trailered boat before entry into the water and decontaminate the vessel, if necessary. Once the boat has been inspected, it will receive the vessel inspection control seal (VICS). No boat will be allowed to launch without an intact VICS Seal. These rules apply to all 86 public and private launches, with a $500 fee for violators. In addition, as of June 8, 2022, under new state law, if a DEC inspection station adjacent to a public waterbody in the Adirondack Park (which includes Lake George) is open for operation, boaters must have either a self-issuing certification or decontamination certificate from a DEC inspection station before launching into the waterbody. Boat inspections take place at seven stations around the lake: Million Dollar Beach Launch: 139 Beach Road, Lake George, NY Dunham's Bay Dock & Launch: 2036 Bay Road, Queensbury, NY Huletts Landing Marina: 6068 Lakeside Way, Huletts Landing, NY Norowal Marina in Bolton: 21 Sagamore Road, Bolton Landing, NY Mossy Point Public Boat Launch: 158 Black Point Road, Ticonderoga, NY Rogers Rock Public Campground: 9894 Lakeshore Drive, Hague, NY Note: The Transfer Road Inspection Station is now closed. Everyone knows the phrase, "It is all fun and games until _____". On a populated lake, these sorts of situations can occur, and while everyone also knows the phrase "accidents happen", many unsafe situations can be easily avoided simply by being familiar with the rules. Lake George is a unique lake, and therefore it has special laws that differ from other lakes in the region and in New York State. These laws are enforced by the Lake George Park Commission (LGPC) and the Warren County Sheriff's Department. A boater should not enter the water without first realizing some of the different rules that Lake George
  8. Why. I’ve used the same terminator for years with no issues. If you do decide to re-terminate , you can buy just the plastic part that the cable runs through from fish307 for about a dollar each way cheaper than buying the whole terminator kit
  9. Oneida lake is connected to LO through the Oneida and Oswego river system. Hope this is a local die off and not some new environmental problem https://www.newyorkupstate.com/outdoors/2023/06/what-killed-thousands-of-this-oneida-lake-fish-last-week.html?outputType=amp
  10. There is rather more than a 2’ difference between the amount of DR cable out and actual depth of your weight blowback ( and the actual depth of your lures) is depending on speed , currents , and the weight of your weight (pun intended) my probe shows actual depth of my presentation. There are times I’ve had to let out 150 ‘of cable to reach 100 ft down Watch the angle of your cable the more the angle , the more cable you have to let out to reach the desired depth. Don’t rely on your sonar to tell you how deep you’re fishing it can only tell you how far your weight is from the ducer , not how deep it is
  11. This topic has been addressed many times on this forum. There are charts that can show the approximate depth of your weight using math , amount of cable out and the angle of blowback using your sonar ( distance finder ) to track your weights does NOT show you the true depth of your weight , only the distance of the weight from the transducer if you have 100 ft of cable out and you have 20° of blowback , your weight (and lure ) are actually running at about 80 ft Your sonar may show that you are fishing at 100 ft , but it’s actually showing the distance from the ducer , not the true depth takes a while to get your head around this but it’s true. All geometry
  12. Definitely one of the better sites , BUT , with over 40 years of fishing on LO , I can guarantee that you should add 1 ft to ANY wave height prediction. If it says 1-3 , you can bet on 2-4 etc.
  13. You are entering the June doldrums Fishing is sloooow Target browns where 60 ° water intersects the bottom Lakers in 150 fow near bottom. Kings ??? Your guess is as good as anyone else’s. Best bet for chinooks, offshore near the shipping channel fish the bait pods. Good luck
  14. You are correct about the king action starting in mid July on the east end of the lake I’ve been fishing LO since the late 70’s and it’s the same year after year. The major influx of water into the lake is the Niagara River The bait and the majority of pelagic fish tend to gather here it is what it is. If you want king and coho action before July you will have to go west
  15. June is notoriously slow on the east end of the lake. The doldrums. LT will usually cooperate out in 150 fow Browns will be where 60 ° waters is near the bottom Salmon out in the shipping lanes keep an eye on the weather if you go out there long haul
  16. Per DEC regs. “ No more than two days’ legal take of nonsalable fish may be transported unless a permit is obtained from a DEC regional office , OR the fish is frozen , processed , and packaged for storage “
  17. I’m sure you are aware of this , but just in case. Don’t use pressure treated lumber or plywood on an aluminum boat The copper in the material will react ( and eat ) the aluminum in a very short time
  18. Still against the law and you could be fined. Just trying to save you a headache and some money. “They may not be handled for any other purpose.”
  19. Don’t want to be a “ Karen “. But be careful posting pictures of fish caught out of season. My buddy got a nice fine for exactly that The reg is posted below Closed Season Restriction A person may not fish for a species (even if immediately released) during the closed season for that species on a given water. Fish caught during the closed season must be unhooked and released immediately. They may not be handled for any other purpose.
  20. The black flies he is referring to in the Adirondack region are only around in the late spring and early summer. They are tiny little critters with BIG teeth. You hardly feel the bite but they will draw blood and if you are sensitive to the bite ( as the writer is ) you will have a nasty itching bleeding bump for a long time if you are outside in the north country in May you will have clouds of the things around your head. Most deet containing sprays will repel them for a while
  21. That’s a long way from Mexico , but give them a call and ask. +1 (315) 589-2752
  22. I always keep a few expired flares ( along with current ) on board. They will still work and you may need more than the required number of flares to get attention
  23. I’ve looked for years to no avail. There are a few companies, but their bulk is in tons 😝
