  1. Hi Guys, I am looking for the contact information of a small hotel located on Route 104 outside of Oswego (in Scriba). It use to be the old Scriba minimart and gas station. I usually stay at the blackwalnut up the street but the accomodations are going down hill so I am looking for something else. I think the name of this place is May's county Suites or some thing along those lines. I wasn't able to get the phone number when I passed a couple weeks ago and I can't find it online. Any help would be great. Thanks, Baytech
  2. Fished east fo the harbor on both days 3 to 12ft of water. Friday we managed to go 8 for 13 with one smal coho, the rest were all small browns. Saturday we end up 11 for 15 all browns. kept 6 decent ones and released all the others. Most hits came on black and silver rapala j-9's and any spoon with black and silver in it. We really had to work for them and I would say that the majority of the fish came in 3ft to 8ft of water. In that close the sufrace temps were from 50 to 54 degrees. Baytech
  3. I will be up for the first Oswego trip of the year starting mid morning on Friday and staying into Saturday. If you are out there give me (Orangeman) a holla on 72. (16.5 White Alumacraft). Baytech
  4. Do any of you guys know if this will work with mono or is there something better. Baytech
  5. Fishing the lake in font of the salmon river on thursday and friday. Fished from noon to 8pm on thursday and 5:30am to noon on friday. We went 5 for 7 with the biggest about 20lbs. Fishing came in 18 to 30ft of water on Rapala j-13's in the clown color and on a geen and silver spoon with black dots (a $2 cableas special) the spoon was so cheap after the first salmon it look like a crushed soda can all bent up with a mangled hook. Do to the wind on saturday we went to fish the black river but did catch anything. There are fish in the river but none wanted to hit. I did manage one small walleye. baytech
  6. They could be worse then Notre Dame......
  7. Anybody else plan to be out there doing a little combat trolling. I will be up Thursday through Saturday. I will probably start at the salmon river on Thursday and Friday then head down to Oswego on Saturday.Give me a yell on the radio I am typically on 68, ask for orangeman. Although I may have to change that if Syracuse football gets any worse....... Baytech
  8. Well I managed to get the trailer jacked up and spin the tires. I spun them forward and backward and as fast and slow as I possible could. I heard no noise at all coming from the hubs. So everything sounded ok.....Well I took the boat to a local lake later that day and while the window was down I noticed a swooching sound. This only seems to occur as higher speeds > 40mph becasue when I slowed down the sound would stop. Any ideas? It really sound like somthing is rubbing somewhere, but I have no idea what. I recently repalced two bad pieces of steel on the trailer (a whole other story) and thought this may have something to do with it but the replacement was farily simple and I had a dealer look at the trail to ok it's warranty. I am headed up to the lake the next two weekends before I put the boat away for the year and i'm not really feeling comfortable with the 4 hour dirve. Baytech
  9. Thanks for the info Kingfish, I have fished the river before, either setting anchor under the bridge or trolling the large hole at the launch or further down the river. Just like you said I have had some success with large rapalas, J-11 or shadraps. I have also caught salmon on flatfish. Instead of bringing extra trebles I beef up all my rings and trebles with heavier hardware. I hope I can get out on the last at leat one day. If the wind stays out of the south I should be ok. If not I will be in dexter or the oswego harbor. baytech
  10. Well I am itching to get up to the lake but with only a 16ft boat and the wind forecast for the weekend it doesn't look like I will be able to fish the lake, so I was thinking of trying the Black River. Has anybody heard anything from up around that area within the last couple days. I am hoping that the little bit of rain they had yesterday might help bring some fish into the river. My fall fishing time is limited to the next 2 or 3 weekends so I hate not being able to get up on one of my free weekends. I could also stick to the Oswego Harbor if the winds aren't that bad. I know the winds forecast can change but I want to try and keep a couple options open. Thanks, baytech
  11. Thanks for the info and suggestions guys. I won't have any time to take a look at it until labor day weekend. I will let you know how it goes. The only good thing is that my boat is located only about 15 mintues from cabela's so if I need parts I am right there. Thanks Again, Baytech
  12. I have had some pretty significant problems with my shorelander trailer over this summer. The the bundle frames which are attached to the axle were cracking and were dangerously close to snapping off of the main frame. This trailer is only a little over three years old so I was able to get the parts replaced under warranty but have other concerns about the trailers integrity. This brings me a long way around to my question. How often do you replace the hubs on your trailer. This is a trailer for a 16ft boat. I make a total of maybe 20 trip up to the lake in the spring and fall so 80% of the travel is highway, I grease the hubs prior to every trip as well. Does this play any roll on how often to replace the hubs? and last but not least is this a big job? Thanks for any insight, Baytech
  13. Andre, I have been fishing out of a 16.5 ft boat in the spring and the fall for the last 4 years without any problems. Wind/weather is your biggest question. If the wind is like you said 5 to 10 out of the south you are fine, but just be aware that it can change at any given second plus throw in a thunderstorm an you could be in trouble. I have, an do get out into that depth of water in the fall, depending on where the fish are but I always watch the sky and have an ear to the radio for the weather. My advise, bottom line make sure you have enough engine to get in fast enough should the weather turn south. Oh and know your boats limitations...... I am sure some of the more seasoned guys will have some good advise as well. Darren
  14. Ron, Check out the BlackWalnut Hotel It's on 104 toward Pulaski outside of Osewgo, maybe 10-15min drive to the Wrights landing. 315-342-9771 Not the best place but it's clean and heat and AC work Baytech
  15. Here is the deal, I have a 2003 Mec 40 outboard. The year after I bought it I was having trouble starting it because it would not stay in neutral. I would have to fiddle with it until it would get into the right spot and then turn over. I took it back to the dealer (still under warrenty at the time) and they said it was a linkage problem. They said they tightened it up and it work ok for the remainder of the year. Well I was at the dock Saturday morning trying to start my once again testy engine. This time it won't start until it is at a point right between neutral and forward. Well you can guess what happened... The minute it kicked over it jumped into forward gear and off I went, like a cat shot in the you know what. Thank god there was nobody in front of me and my dad did a poor job of tying me off. But I need to get this fixed. I just talked to the dealer, he once again said it was the linkage and to bring it back. Well it's no longer under warrenty and I don't want to drive two hours to the dealer to have him tighten a screw. My questions are these: Does anybody else have this problem? If they tighten the linkage back up again will this keep occuring and if so is there any way I can prevent it? Can I do this myself and if so does anybody have an Idea how to do it? Ok, It was a long rant sorry. Any help or ideas would be great. Thanks, baytech
  16. Not as good as the past two weekends for me on the browns but nothing to cry about. We end up 11 for 13 on Friday with the biggest about 8lbs. A buddy of mine got a real nice one between 13 and 14lbs on our digital scale, but he isn't entered in the derby. Saturday was a bit slower for us. We managed 7 for 8 with the biggest between 7 and 8lbs. The clearer water didn't seem to effect us that much as we caught all of our fish between 3 and 12 foot of water. Mostly on spoons, black and silver or blue and silver. That's it for me until the fall (damn weddings). Oh, did have a slight motor problem so I am going to post in the boat page for advise on that. Good luck to all in the derby and enjoy the rest of the spring you lucky buggers.
  17. Ray, Check this site out: http://www.nysgis.state.ny.us/gateway/mg/ Once you zoon in close enough the aerial photos will pop up. Click in view Orothoimagery to start. Baytech
  18. btfc, We were East of the harbor, anywhere from just inside the esat wall all the way down to the plant. I didn't pick much up down by the plant but did mark a ton of bait and fish. There is an insane amount of bait around, I can't tell you how many times we had fish at the boat spit up bait. They are just in a feeding frenzy. My buddy did manage to get a king about 12 to 15lbs inside the harbor, but we weren't targeting them by any means. I will be up Friday and Saturday, weather depending. Give me a yell on 68, ask for Orangeman or baytech.
  19. Fishing was really good this past Thursday Friday and Saturday. Thursday was a bit slow we went 7 for 11 with the biggest brown about 6lbs. Firday we found them and the action was pretty much nonstop. We ended up 33 for 40 YEAH, HUGE DAY. The biggest was around 9lbs. Satuday the weather kept me and my 16 footer close to the harbor, but we still managed to get into a couple in the 4 hours we fished, going 4 for 4. Everything was in 3 to 12 foot of water off spoons and sticks. Colors were all over the board from blue and sliver to black and silver to orange.
  20. Got out on the water friday about 11:30, it was nice to get out there after this winter.. We ended up 14 for 18 on friday with mostly all fish coming of spoons in 6 to 10 foot of water. Toward the end of the day we saw a couple guys casting off of shore and they were doing better then us trolling, so I cut the engine and we got 2 or 3 casting spoons for the last half hour or so. The water temps were 39 to 47 degrees. On Saturday we went 7 for 11 but the bite was mostly off of stickbaits in a tad deeper water, 8 to 12 foot. Saturday the warmest water we could find was 44 degrees. Nothing really big, the biggest was about 6lbs, for the entire weekend we kept 6 fish, just enough to have a few dinners. A great start to the season. On a side note I did get a chance to talk to muskybob over the radio and at the dock, nice guy and very nice to talk to over the radio. Hope to see him out ther again. I also talked to two guys from canada at the dock that did pretty well. They managed to get to get two small rainbows and a couple browns. I will be up this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, weather permiting.
  21. Hey Muskybob, I will be in Oswego Friday as well, should get up there around 10 (it's along ride from PA). I will give you a shout on the radio or you can do likewsie. I wouldn't mind meeting some of the LOU members. Handle is orangemen..... Good luck Friday.
  22. Thanks for the info guys. From the most recent NOAA weather it looks like it's going to be decent this weekend, so I am all but there. We usually fish PortOntario in the fall for Salmon but have never tried it for browns. That may be an option if the wind is out of the east. I will wait until I see what the lake looks like until I decide where I'm going to launch. Odds are it will be Oswego, but I wouldn't mind checking Mexico out if the weather is nice. Thanks again, Baytech
  23. Hi Guys, This is my first post on the new board, things look great... I am planning my first trip up this weekend. I usually fish out of Oswego but some of the reports from Fish-nuts don't make the water condition sound to ideal especially in the harbor. I am only in a 16.5 footer so I like Oswego for the protection of the harbor but when the weather is decent I have ventured all the way down the the power plant. It's a little harder in the smaller boat but we hold our own I have never fished out of mexcio and was wondering what it was like there. I notice on some of the aerial photos that there are a decent number of small tribs down that way that look like they could attract fish with the cold spring. Any suggestions or recomendations would help. I am limited with my trips this year due to weddings and Bachelor parties, don't these people know it's fishing season.....so I want to try and make the most out of them. As long as I get the weather. Give a yell for orangemen if you are out there I am usually on 68 or 69. Thanks guys, I will be sure to post any reports. Baytech
