Pretty early in a used boat search to lock in on specific brand especially with a 25K budget. I’d suggest looking at 23 to 25’ as one group then 26 to 30’ as another. On the smaller end you can get along with a single and on the big end you’d be much happier with twins. Big difference in operating costs between those groups. When you move into late model 4 stroke outboards for power, your budget is out the window.

A launch ramp with cleaning station and a place to stay nearby would put Dunkirk on the list. Transient slips available in the marina right behind the Clarion Hotel. Everything within walking distance. Most of the local stations sell non-ethanol fuel as well. Other lodging choices by I-90 interchange. Short run from harbor to deeper water. Popular choice with out of state/long distance visitors.

Walnut Creek Marina is west of Erie, Pa and Northeast Ramp is east of Erie with Barcelona just over the state line in NY. Fishing info on Northeast and Barcelona would be similar. FYI that on this site most of the guys fishing NY waters of Lake Erie. Fishing has been excellent this season in both Pa and NY. Last week it was tough to get out and looks like another shot of fall type weather later this week that might make it tough again. Fish are here and will be for a while.

The Adventure Marine High Thrust Bracket might be worth looking into. That is a transom mount and would get kicker back further and let you slide to the outside to gain some more space. With remote control on a power trim/ electric start you wouldn’t be on back pulling a motor up/down. With your twins you might just lock kicker straight and steer w/big motors without a tie bar. Will be a nice setup once you get it the way you want.

Would like to clarify info on Lake Erie launch sites. In Chautauqua County the Town of Hanover operates the launch and fish grinder at the Catt, in Dunkirk City of Dunkirk owns and leases both launch/fish grinder and marina to a 3rd party and Barcelona the Town of Westfield operates the launch. Barcelona doesn’t have a grinder due to lack of sewers. In Erie County Sturgeon Point is operated by Town of Evans. Your launch fees are going to a local municipality. Westfield and Hanover both place a high value on their access and appreciate the fishing community. With the great fishing, we’re seeing new visitors to Lake Erie.

Looking at various kickers one thing to pay attention is if they 1. Have an alternator and 2. What size/amps does it put out. Some are rated at 6 amps while some of the newer ones with electric start are rated at 12 amps. Ratings are done at higher rpm so a higher rate gives a better charge at low trolling speed. My current Suzuki 9.9 rated at 12 amps keeps me charged for a full day. Running FF, chart, auto pilot, vhf, washdown, probe takes a lot of juice. Run non-ethanol fuel with marine conditioner and many fuel issues go away.

I have an Adventure Marine fixed kicker bracket on my Proline. I think they refer to it as a “swim step bracket”. Have had it 17 years- currently has a Suzuki 9.9 long shaft with electric start and power trim on it. Even the finish has held up well. Pretty common on the West Coast for guys to run fixed brackets on kickers.

Cleaning station in Dunkirk has been up and running again. Important with these grinder stations is to put one fish in at a time. Stuffing a pile of carcasses at once over loads/ plugs grinder. Just an FYI that DEC and USCG have been around checking for unlicensed charters. I’ve had to show credentials and a buddy was boarded while we were fishing and landing fish even with boards out. It’s no joke if you get caught.
