  1. I've rented a boat from Mark's Leisure Time Marine on Friday. I've got family in town and promised one of them I'd take them fishing. It's a fishing boat I got, but no trolling motor, so casting the docks will be tough, but not impossible. Any other quick suggestions or updates? Will have to fish the South Side of the lake due to proximity to the marina.

  3. I've fished Conesus hard in the early part of May and know how to catch the Pike pretty easy.

Can anyone give me some advice on how to catch pike and bass on Conesus? Would really like to concentrate on shallower type water strategies as I'll be renting a boat w/no fish finder.

So areas to concentrate and strategies? I'll be renting the boat around the 9th of July from Mark's Leisure Time and have family visiting, so would like to show them a good day on the lake.

    Thank you to whomever replies.

  4. I'm going to do the Conesus Lake routine again this year. I"ve had decent luck there every year, especially with the Pike.

Walleye on the other hand, I've only caught one each year, but each of them were decent size, like 26" and 5-6lbs.

I generally troll rapalas after dark as close to the shore as I can get and cast in between, but don't kill them by any means.

Any suggestions for Walleye on Conuesus after dark is much, much, much appreciated.

Good luck to everyone and also to the Turkey Hunters.

  5. We did really well on Saturday...Did not get out on Sunday.

Friday Night, I got a 24" eye on a very slow retrieve rapala about 10 yards from shore. Later that night I got a 32" Pike trolling and got him on the rod twitch back.

Saturday they were nailing the shiners on the South end, but about 10-12 houses back from the inlet, NOT in by the inlet where everybody else likes to park on top of one another.

Saturday Night went out and could not hook them, but very similar to the report I read above. They were very light bites when retrieving rapalas very, very slow and on the pause you got the bump, but couldn't hook.

    Hope this helps.

  6. Interesting on the Grub. I've never tried that before. What do you do, straight retrieve or do you jig it in? What color?

    Anyone else on that theory?

When you all say "jigging for eyes" what do you mean? Vertical below boat? At night? How deep and what to jig?

I'll share my opening night sucess (hopefully) on Saturday in case I get lucky to give some tips for Conesus.

  7. Not the best forecast for the weekend opener. I'm sure many of you have been around for opening weekends, where it was snowing, so not much to complain about.

I'm ok with the weather Friday Night for the Walleye, but trying to anchor and throw a shiner out on Saturday for Pike may be very difficult at best.

Good luck everyone. I'm hoping I get a couple this year trolling or casting Conesus this year at night. Last year only got 1, but it was a beauty....

  8. I agree, both North and South ends and only have to anchor in about 5'-6' of water. Throw out a shiner with a bobber and you will catch Pike. Never done the North end but see them pull them up like crazy from the ice down there. I go to the South because it's a quicker ride for me.

  9. Rented a boat tonight (and have tomorrow) on Conesus Lake. The plan was to fish the inlet from a boat rather than fighting with everyone on shore for the 1 good spot.

There were lots of people out. I'm thinking possibly 8-10 groups of people. We arrived around 9PM to the spot (parked right outside where the inlet comes into the lake).

The night was great...stars all out...lake was calm and just a tiny bit chilly.

OOPS - got off track. Well we didn't do that great. From 9-10 they were biting OK, but after 10 they just stopped for us, but did see some others catching one or two here and there.

From what we learned on shore, they were nailing them up until around 8PM (right around time it gets dark now). They did not touch the Chicken Liver tonight, but were rather biting on the tested and true nightcrawler. One of the guys there said he had around 30 in his bucket all caught between 5PM-8PM and then just a couple here and there between 8-10 (maybe 3 between the two of them after 8PM).

We ended up with 2 very small ones in the boat and I mean SMALL. They were both caught right off the bottom on Nightcrawlers. We missed maybe 4-5 more on the bottom and they were biting so soft tonight.

We are going to try tomorrow AM starting from 9AM-???. Will provide another update tomorrow, but expect to have 30 or more during that time from previous experience out there during the day.

SO: If you want to catch these bottom feeders (now they are not Pike/Walleye/Bass...but are fun to catch in huge numbers prior to our opener) try it out. I would not waste your time going at night. This is the 2nd time I've fished at night down there for bullheads and both times it was not productive. However every time I've been down there with a North Wind or No Wind during the day, we just kill them.

Bait to bring: Nightcrawlers, Chicken Liver, and Leeches if you can find them right now. You never know which of the 3 they are going to want that day.

  10. I just can't wait. Definately will be hitting Conesus hard due to proximity as well. Walleye at night and Pike by day. It will be crazy down by the inlet in the AM and early PM there, but it always produces even with 15 boats down there.

Anyone got a clue where you can get Creek Chubs or HUGE shiners? Art's bait shop here has great bait, but a mix of big/small.

  11. I know everybody has to be getting excited. I can't wait to hit the Conesus Lake Inlet to see the run, when the weather improves. Where is everybody going (don't need the honey hole...just lake)? What things are you trying? Talking the nights.

I'm going to try a bunch of things this year. All my fishing will be on Conesus Lake both for Walleye at night and Pike during the day.

Going to try trolling the shallows with every lure I have.

If that doesn't work, then casting the shallows with every lure I have.

What about jigging at night? How, what, and where at night on Conesus?
