  1. K Gonefishin; We ran meat last year for the first time in a while and did well. We ran it very similar to Blue Knight. Deepest rod right above our probe anywhere from 43-49 degrees. What port out of Cleveland to you launch? When we launch from the Cleveland area we will use Scenic Park out of the Rock, or Edgewater.
  2. Thanks guys, I have been looking around online for some good deals on the reels you have mentioned. I found fish307 has some good prices as well as the atom-mik site.
  3. Wire is beginning to make its way to the central basin of lake Erie, that being said I am planning on adding 2 wire rigs for Erie, as well as Ontario. What reels are good, but not to expensive for wire? And I'm planning on adding a 400' copper, and possibly a 200 or 300 as well. What reels do you guys like for the 200, 300, and 400? Can you get away with a smaller reel for a 200? thanks guys
  4. Fishing lake O for 7 straight days; July 25th- Aug 2nd- hottest spoon colors were Carbon 14 in the early morning, 42 in the middle to late morning, early afternoon was NBK or gator, and evening was getterdun. Carbon was moonshine. 42, and getterdun was DW SS, and NBK and gator was stinger.
  5. We have a whole bunch of metallic purple because they seem to be the best producers on Erie- but when we fish Ontario, our best results have been with green. That being said, I know we are the minority of fisherman who prefer green, but that has been our best color nonetheless.
  6. I know this question is asked several times a year; but What lb test is a favorite for riggers? We have been reluctant to run lighter lb test while fishing Ontario because the fear a big guy could snap the line. Normally we run #30 mono for our riggers, but are considering in the future running a lighter lb test, as long as the fleas aren't to thick. any thoughts?
  7. We arrived in NY Sunday July 26th and Stayed mid-day Saturday 8-1. We got out to fish everyday, and had great weather pretty much all week. Overall we boated 30-35 fish. Nothing was enormous but we had a good amount of decent to good size fish. We ended with 5 Kings between 17-20lbs and 3 Steelhead that were 12-14lbs. We threw back kings under 22' unless they hit the 400 copper and we felt they wouldnt make it, and all steelhead under 22' as well. Our best set-ups were; Crush glow on green spinny with a Green Hypnotist fly. 240-260 on a 2 setting. Gator spinny and Green Hammer fly 180-240. Best spoons were 42nd, carbon 14, and stingray gator. Thanks to everyone on this board for all the help and adivce! Thanks to Chinook for your time and all your help! We'll be back next year. Me with a 20lber, and I am on the right below- our best day catch.
  8. Paul what is the name of your boat? hopefully see you up there
  9. Sounds like a good trip- glad you got them going, and thanks for the report
  10. I will be certain to stop at the black north, and prime rib is my favorite- sounds great thanks for the advice.
  11. I am heading to the Oak July 25th with my dad and brother. We are staying a full week, and will be staying at north of the ridge campground. Hopefully I will bump into a few people from LOU while I am up there. My boat name is Scorpio, if you happen to see or hear from us, dont be afraid to stop and say hello.
  12. Why dont they sell Yuengling beer in Ohio?
  13. Great looking fish. Did your fishing partners happen to take those pictures?
  14. There are too many sheephead in Lake Erie....
  15. CBish- I am making my annunal trip up to the oak July 26th- Aug 2nd. We stay at North of the Ridge campground. Last year we had a couple of days where we had a tough time getting anything going- If were struggling a day, and its fine with you, I might give you a shout on the radio. Boat name is Scorpio. BTW- good website, and great job on your fishing reports- they help "outsiders " like myself.
  16. Quick question on probe set-ups... We have always hooked our probe to the coated cable, and placed the ball 1 foot underneath the probe. We have always thought with this set-up a stacker release, placed above the probe should be used, because running a release off the ball could interfre with the probe... is this true? The pinch pads tend to wear the coated cable.
  17. Legacy- good tip; I am going to run them upside down and use swivels instead of snaps. thanks for the help guys
  18. GB- My dad has painted spoons in the past- he would get all of his supplies from janns netcraft. As for the process I am really not sure, but this link could help point you in the right direction. http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/
  19. I have been using the roemer liberator release this season for my fixed slider. This is my first year using this technique instead of the rubberband method. I have a few problems i need worked out. 1.) the top part of the release does not trip when it hits the eye of my pole. 2.) I am getting alot of tangles with my leader off the liberator when reeling my main line in. My leader consists of a snap at each end- should i try ball bearing swivels? thanks for the help
  20. I have been doing good on walleye this year so far- I am fishing the central basin of Erie, but these are the hot set-ups. Reef Runners off church boards- colors; pink lemonade, pink panties, mooneye. Divers and #40 Jets with Michigan Scorpions (copper belly's) colors; hammer, confusion, chicken wing. Troll speed has been 1.7-2.0 gps
  21. What is a popular way to run copper? - planer boards, church boards, etc.
  22. My mistake- I have never made it as far as fairport. I have been off cleveland often when we target steel- but I do not get further east of that, because that would be over an hour and a half driving. I live just a few miles east of Cedar Point by Sandusky. I believe fairport is just east of mentor. And I am familiar of mantau- in portage county. thanks for the cell info; mine is 419 706 0935. And I will remind you mid july about my trip. thanks again
  23. Duane- Thank you very much for your generosity! As of right now I will be at the big lake the last week of July. I do not fish out of fairport when I make my way up to NY, just the oak.
  24. shade, chinook thanks for the info guys- shade; we bought the mass planer set up years ago for running cranks and jets for walleye- but the church boards are actually more effective when fishing for gators, because the mass planer set-up causes tangles to often when running lures at different depths, when fish hit and run. chinook; all my rods are equipped with line counters; the only problem is that, i do not have a wire, copper, leadcore rig.. because I am from north central Ohio and fish Erie mostly; those rigs are not needed to get down to where the fish are because it is so shallow. I would love to purchase wire, copper, leadcore set-ups, but only make it to ontario for 1 week a year, and do not see myself spending the cash for 1 week. We have 9' and 9'10" diver poles so that could help.
  25. Does anyone run 2 divers per side? I have a mass planer board set-up, but have never run divers off of them. I am most interested in knowing if I could get away with running a regular diver on a 1 setting with a flasher/fly- then a slide diver with a 35-50ft lead on a 4-6 setting without tangles. Does anyone have expereince running this or a similar set up? thanks guys
