Well it's been a great 2 years, but I'm done with school and will be headin back to CA on monday. I'll miss the pike, eyes, and definatly the ice fishin. It's been nice meetin some of you out on the water. I will most definatly still monitor these boards and wish I was fishin in NY. I will be catchin lots of fish in the ocean though off the coast of So Cal. Thanks Tom. Not exaclty gave up on the campin trip, it's just that the logistics might be tricky. We don't have a tent... That and it is tough to find 2 days where I don't have some stuff to do. We might just do an all day trip searchin for eyes. Phil

Continuing my quest for a decent pike before I return to CA the 31st, I decided to give Black Creek in Churchville a shot. Paddled from Churchville park all the way to the bridge (don't know what road). Went over a couple trees in the kayak figurin no boats have been that far up. Slow... Not a hit at all my spots. No signs of life. After a few hours, managed this guy... Not what I had in mind. Then the bite started to pick up in the shallow, weedy coves. Got nailed a few times, but they wouldn't hook! I would see them slam it, but no stick. I had a big trailer hook too, didn't get it. Started to get a little frustrated and worried I would come up short. Finally as it was about time to leave, I tried my favorite little spot and sure enough got slammed! Right away I knew he was hooked well and he stripped a whole lotta line and buried himself into some weeds. Finnally ended up into the net! Taped out at 24.5''. Not my biggest pike, but good enough. Sure enough, he was hooked on the trailer. Never ate pike before. After some youtube studyin on the y bones, filleted him up relatively easily. Boy was he good! mmm Let's see if I can get a bigger one before I go. Any idea why I had so many short strikers? Should I down-size the bait? Try a different color? Phil

Thanks Panfisher. Not me at the laundramat. Girlfriend does the laundry, thank God. I wish I would have fished the St. Lawrence. Just never got around to it.

Yeah I was out all day Monday. Fished it hard! Paddled about 10 miles total. Worked the whole north and west sides. Tried everything I could think of including live shiners and tiny little live sunfish. Tried deep and shallow. Trolled and casted. Had a decent size pike follow and nip at my daredevil on the west end. Got my heart pumpin, but the damn thing wouldnt stick. Oh well. I know they are in there and I aint tryin to say that they're not. Got a week and a half left and I think I am done with Conesus forever. I just can't figure them out. I'm going to try Black Creek in Churchville on Friday. Gotta get a big pike before I go! Phil

Fished Conesus for a few hours this mornin. Kinda chilly. Throwin a big rapala for the toothies, I get this toad bass. No pike. More bass. I want pike. Phil

Thanks for the info Tcon! Yeah, that launch in Avon might be a little far, but I'm guessing the water is movin along pretty good from there. If it is fast enough, it might not be that bad of a paddle to Oatka. I will have to take a drive and check it out. Checkin in the google map, I see quite a few islands just inside Oatka. This would be a cool place to camp, as long as it isn't swampy. I'm guessing no one would even notice us there. How high up is the bank in that stretch? Is it even possible to get on shore? I figure Oatka wouldn't be too steep. Thanks for callin your cousin. I'm looking forward to his response. Thanks again, Phil

Tryin to plan a kayak float trip. Last year I did a 10.5 mile, one-day trip and had a blast! This time, I wanna do a 2 day trip. Here is the plan: We would launch at Honeoye creek and take it to the G and head north. I'm thinkin we can camp along shore where Oatka Creek meets the G. We would end day 2 where Black creek meets. Here are my questions: 1.) Is it legal to pull up to the stream and camp? I talked to one old-timer who said it is state-owned land. 2.) Does anyone know a spot on the G where the bank is not too steep and muddy that would allow us to climb up it? 3.) Does anyone have a better idea? 4.) Is the river and creeks deep enough? I would assume yes. 5.) How far south can we launch into the G before it is too shallow and rapidy, in caseif we were to avoid Honeoye creek? My kayak can store everything we need. I know the river is full of walleye and hopefully we can eat them for dinner. Sounds like a cool trip huh? Thanks for some info. Phil

Thanks for the well wishes dudes. It's been a blast out here. Stan likes to fish a lake that we used to visit every summer. My folks are goin there in July. Maybe I'll meet up with him. Maybe I'll post up some of my future ocean kayaking fishin adventures in the pictures section if no one here gets mad... Here's my buddy with a pic of the fish I will be goin after. Yeah. I graduate next weekend. I'm going to miss the pike and walleye fishin.

Went to Conesus lake this afternoon to take my buddy kayak fishin for the first time. Was a bit windy, but I had to try. Launched out of the inlet and tried going in the main lake. Huge whitecaps, and chop made it almost impossible to navigate. I was takin waves over my bow. Havn't been on water like that since my California Ocean days. It was a lot of fun gettin tossed around. Had I been by myself, I would have gone for it and found some shelter in the docks, but I was worried about my buddy. Did not want anything to happen to him. So we fished the inlet for a bit and I caught a few small bass. It calmed down a little bit and I noticed my friend had the kayak thing down so I decided to go for it. Of course we had all the right safety equip in case somethin went wrong. I managed a couple more bass, but nothin huge. I wanted my friend to catch a fish so I knew he would hook up by the docks, but he still has some learnin to do. Decided to paddle over the the north end flats and throw my giant rapala for some pike. Got hit a few feet from my yak by this guy. Put up a great fight despite his small size. Crazy that I am yet to land a pike at Conesus but have caught 2 tigers so far. Hopin I can get a nice pike before I return to CA at the end of May. Wind picked up again and went back to the docks to get my buddy a bass and I caught this nice bass on the way over. It took so much force to gain headway with the wind that my paddle cracked. And finally! Wind died and it got really nice for a little while. Caught some more bass on the smaller rapala. Would have fished later if it wasnt for the big thunderstorm that kicked us off. What an adventure! Phil

Yeah I know the regs. I aint dumb. I wish I could afford some nice gear. Gettin pretty tired of my other reel makin noise as I wind. Love one of my rods though. My brother made it for me. So sensitive. That humminbird is ****in. I need to re-wire mine. I am not used to dealin with this damp air in my garage. Maybe this year I will try the big lake for some bass. Have to hurry. Movin back to CA end of May. Phil

Fished Conesus yesterday in the afternoon hopin to find some bass. Hook up with this guy on the first cast. Ended up being one of those days. Must have caught over 20 bass. None of them were hogs, but they were a lot of fun on light tackle. Most looked like this. Was workin my way down the lake when things slowed a bit. Decided to troll for smallies back up to my spot. While trolling offshore about 20 feet deep I hooked up big time. At first thought I snagged, but soon realized I had a big fish. Get it up and it is the wrong kind Took some really quick photos before releasin him (I had the camera in my lap). I say him because he spermed all over me. Measured at 22'' which is my PB so far. Too bad I could not keep him! These pics do not do justice. He was a nice fish. He was back in the water after being out for maybe 30 seconds. Decided I better not troll that lure anymore... Went back shallow and got some more bass. Called it a day early because I was more than satisfied. If you want more details, PM me. Phil

Anyone gettin any bass outta Conesus? Thinkin the water will be warm enough for them to start gettin active. Would like to catch and release some this wednesday. Phil

I'll bet you can get them now if you brave the cold. Check the regs though. Pretty sure it's catch and release only with artificials.

Sounds like fun, but too damn cold for me to go in my kayak... (mine is a sit on top and I get a little wet) Be sure you are confident in your yak that you won't fall in. That cold water can be pretty dangerous. Too early for pre-spawn. I have caught LMB there before. I hear there are some smallies as well. With the cold water, the bass will be lethargic and you will have to fish slow... Let us know how you do! Phil
