  1. Thanks all for the info, and espec., you, Ray for the in depth reply. I think we met at the Samson launch last summer when you arrived with your camper to take a whack at them. I think I know what happened. I went under the trailer and after having rolled the boat back 6" and found a depression in the bottom where the bottom rests on the main center roller. That is where the 1" crack is and most likely was created by concentrated boat weight stress. So, I used a jack and raised the double rollers on both sides, up the slope from the main center roller, so they really helped carry the weight. Apparently the roller frames had slipped and let the rollers loose contact with the hull. I think the riveted plate at this position would solve my problem, but hate to have to tear up the carpet and floor to accomplish. I know the stop drill process etc. Do you know anyone who could be trusted to do this correctly, besides ME ? and not render me destitute ? Thanks again
  2. I have a 1 inch crack right at the lowest point of the plate that runs along the keel line, about 8 feet up from the transom. I would think the best way to repair it would be to have a good welder go under and do a 10 minute repair with the right skill. Otherwise she is tight as a drum. Can anyone suggest a competent, easy-to-get-along-with welder around Rochester to do this ? My pump works fine but this is not to be left for tomorrow, right....Dave
  3. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND AN EAGLE SEAFINDER 640C AS IT WILL DO ALL THAT I WANT. IE FOLLOW A JIG DEEP AND INDICATE TEMP, SPEED AND LOG DISTANCE WHILE TROLLING........BUT, I CANNOT HEAR BACK FROM LOWRANCE WHAT THE LOW END CAPABILITY IS FOR THE SPEED....ANYONE HAVE ONE AND KNOW........OR, WHAT MAY BE AN APPROPRIATE ALTERNATIVE TO THIS UNIT ??? I THINK THE UNIT HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED, BUT THEY STILL ARE AROUND. LOT OF THANKS FOR ANY ASSIST. DAVE D.
  4. thanks guys, glad I asked twice for help. To correct, the box is an 84 Quicksilver and I am attaching 3 pics of the unit. Still probably going to try to find a really qualified local repairman, as I think it's above my capability. ANY RECOMMENDATIONS REALLY WOULD BE HELPFUL AROUND THE ROCHESTER AREA. Thanks again, Dave.
  5. 82...thanks for your reply. I'm in Pittsford ( ROC ) The box is the Quicksilver unit that came with the 40 Hp Mariner in ' 86. It uses no gas and runs incredibly well. I do not know if there is a number on the unit as I have not looked, really, but will. I have the ignition switch on the dash with a single lever on the box. The lever has the button on the base to use the lever to advance the idle. Otherwise it is a forward , neutral, and reverse lever with a compression lever built into the lever top for shifting. I could not find a a schematic to see the guts prior to tearing it apart, kinda like a doc might approach things. Thanks again. Dave
  6. Oh, Boy !!! getting close to launch time without a reply or fix yet.............anybody, please help if you can.............thanks
  7. I'm told that the problem is minor, but I restore antique canoes.....not good at motor electrical issues. Does anyone know of a truly competent Mariner (Yamaha ) repair operation near Rochester. My motor is older and runs like a charm, but cannot start with the key because of a purportedly broken spring inside the shifter box....starts fine with a pull. Reluctant to open it up as ya know, sometimes the guts fall out and the amateur is really in trouble. HELP.please. Dave [email protected]
