  2. where is L & M in Monroe County.please ? can't find them... Thanks anyone.
  3. I corn the necks and treat like a New England boiled dinner ( corned beef ), pick off the meat for sandwiches , hash or go for the dinner. Sometimes just nice to have a carafe of beer and good friends around and pick around the bones by the fire.
  4. Mr. Dane...found the probe and can't get the test light to blink when the unit is in the on position......so will probably talk with the factory Monday. Sorry, I can't help at the moment. I do have some other things to move out. You are so nearby, I thought I would mention it. i will advise on the probe malady. Thanks , Dave
  5. JIM.I have a spare , but have to locate it. It may be in my boat in storage. I am in Rochester and assume I can PM you . If you know Sam and Terry Hoagland on the Lake Hap...say hi. They have one of my nicest early wood canoes. Dave

But.......what if one obeys the sign and doesn't power load ? I take some comfort in knowing my rollers serve in any case, short ramp, steep ramp...whatever, and I'm pushing 80. I must admit to having installed a longer winch handle. When I did , I knew I was good for even Noah's ark.
  7. This may be my first post....had to share this.....I am one of those who out of respect, hunger, greed, cost to hunt, culinary adventure etc.eats every possible morsel on what I get in the field and on the water....cuts and pieces one can get to with reasonable effort. Brains are exquisite sauteed in the French tradition, but way too tough to get to. So, I can say one of our staples is a corned Venison shoulder and " steaks " and meat from the brisket. Another staple is a Venison stew that will blow your socks off. ( Save the kidneys for a favorite stew recipe. ) A must for us is the LL Bean Game and Fish Cookbook by Angus Cameron and Judith Jones. The book used to be on Amazon and was very inexpensive..I have given many as gifts and thanked profusely. Oh, and save the tongues as well.they are excellent braised or pickled as were the lamb tongues in the jar in the old days with mustard, crackers and ice cold beer. Be brave and have FUN !
  8. Just get on Walter's list and he will keep you informed. He does all the dirty work and knows Albany.......All you need to do is believe that there is safety in numbers and it is true as he has done some great things for the State that most thought impossible....if you care to give MAYBE an hour a MONTH.
  9. Let me simply say........knowledge is power. The Seneca salinity issue is part of a much wider issue having to do with politics, big money , NY FL water quality , Community health +++. If you have the time go to Walter Hang's site at TOXICSOLUTIONS as he is a neighbor to many of us who fish, hunt and love the Fingers. His company is located in Ithaca.
  10. Ed, what a day on Seneca............say, if you send those rebar holders I would be be very happy to put a good chamfer on one of the ends.
  11. WOW, LES and SON...........and what a singular memory with DAD... what a bonus !!!!! and imagine the BT caviar, what, several pounds probably and at many dollars per ounce. Oh, not about the money, but how much of this great delicacy is simply dumped !! Hey, maybe some botarga and a taste of the Mediterranean
  12. Are there many recessive traits and not all are problematic. Why would this gene be an issue in the wild ? I should think a contained population here would be just fine. Interesting consideration for sure.
  13. Oh, WILLY......How I miss the 13 mile woods. Hunted a lot there for rabbit and deer with my wife....even slept / camped out of a VW Bug along the Androscoggin somewhere on a logging road. How lucky you are to have the buds to share the hound-sound. I can hear them now !
  14. I have the 870 20ga mag pump. I bought her in 1960 when my wife and I began hunting in NH. I had a polychoke instaled then and had the barrel cut down as short as legal. ...set the smooth bore to slug, chuck a brennike mag slug and they go to the freezer. With a little rifle sling from LL Bean long ago, I travel very lightly and very happily. See you tomorrow and maybe after my yearly nap in the field.
  15. Now, that's a DAD !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Heading off with the spouse of 51 years ( married, i mean ) for some jigging, and probably the last jigging til Spring.........but you never know with this weather. I may get there again. Aren't these Finger Lakes the ultimate or at least close to it !!
  16. FINAL Man.....which Little Buddy do you have, and is your boat open ? They look very safe, and that's goooood .Dave
  17. We will be about in the cream Sea Nymph Monday for sure with this Indian summer...WOW....and if I had a room down there, somewhere over the garage, I'd stay the whole week !! I need my son-in-law to retire, but he may be able to get away this week. Good luck and too with your boat sale.....looks like the perfect starter rig to me. Dave
  18. I would think if a person restored an exemplary early boat and needed the correct motor for it ???..........I suspect he ( or I ) would gladly pay X2 what you are asking and probably go anywhere from there if it runs as I think it would. Where would one find another to finish the early boat so well restored ?
  19. GUFF.....I was with you on the Arm Tuesday with my wife. We did OK as well. I think you were kindly giving us the hint with a finger point to the bottom. We tried the Bluff for a bit , but returned for better fishing. We wished we had stopped to say hello......NEXT TIME FOR SURE ! See you next week in our SEA NYMPH. DAVE
  20. On a similar note .....and probably only a dream....is there a way to add charging capability to my 1986, 40 elec Yamaha ( Merc Mariner ) ? The engine runs as brand new, but lugging batterires to charge too often is getting to be a little much for this " seasoned " fisherman. And she will not help with this part of fishing !
  21. Well, MATT...what a loss ! And what extraordinary memories. These dogs we spend time with in the field become transformed into a salvation of sorts, and only those who have experienced the phenomenom can relate. I lost my beagle over fifteen years ago and remember her to this day. She would retrieve rabbits from the thorns where I had no prayer of getting to it. She would never run off and would bring the animal around as many times as I needed. I remember being on my belly in deep snow because it was the only way I could see through and up about two feet....took her three rounds and we were done. WOW, all alone with Sushi, from Sam Bazoo of Leroy, NY.
  22. Hi, PETE......I also am sorry to have missed your post, and only needed a little more notice. I would like to get out with ya, and would have kept out the 17 foota had we connected. I too needed the last two outings and went alone, and while very peaceful....I had a weighty laker on the jig and at the boat.....and just could not get it over the rail with one hand.....and gone, @#%%!!** PM me and you can get to me much earlier with the Phone No. Have a fine Holiday, and if you want to hunt together....call. Dave
  23. A good way to spend that special DAY. 62, AND JUST A PUPPY ! I went out to Woodville on Tuesday for the last jig fest and used my new 4 foot drift sock for the first time. I had a 3 foota and it did not hold well enough. But the 4 foota...oh, boy what a hold it gives. In fact I did not use the electric at all in the 5 hours I was out, and the breeze was over ten for sure. So, to all those contemplating a sock to help with the jigging....my boat is 17' Sea Nymph with a lot of gear and a 40hp, with the sock tied off midships. If I tied at the bow, I would have drifted less without the wind broadside. A pleasant day with 2 - 25" and one 28" LT. Miss the comaderie when solo, but ya do whatcha gutta do ! Now maybe a little fly fishing for salmon.
  24. Well, thanks.....and good luck on the hunt. 14 sightings...oye... Dave
