  1. ah,yup, not good . Thanks
  2. SAM...read your caveat regarding accidentally going to OFF . Wat would be the consequence you warn us about ? Thanks, Dave
  3. Wow,DV...The deer is huge it seems more like some sub species. I know the deer there are big, but.... Wish I had made the trip long ago. Dave DeVivo
  4. BOB, thanks. Just about what I have been doing. I suspect I should be on zoom for the 25 feet to the bottom as I have seen what " could " be a bottom hogging fish but I did not circle around the area at least once. It is tough to be as patient as is necessary even at my age, but it is a must sometimes , no ? Thanks again and the 50 pound flat head would be a real experience for sure. DAVE
  5. Hi Bob, Loving this weather so far. Hope you can elaborate just a little on what a decent screen is for you. My new Garmin striker 7Plus is giving good clarity these days but I think I need to be a little more discerning when making the stop . Thanks DAVE
  6. Techy man, thanks for the suggestion. I would hope to find someone who could visit the site here and glass her up and be done. I am a retired antique canoe restorer and could do all the prep but the glassing bit. It was 65 years ago when I last did glass work and that won't do for now. Not a big job but my boat needs a skilled craftsman who knows the way. So I'll give them a call and see what can be done. Thanks again. Dave
  7. My 14 footer needs epoxy and 6 oz. glass to seal up a plywood bottom. Cannot find someone with the experience to get it done for me. Seems to be just a bother for a true commercial operation. Understandable . I guess but it is a very pretty show boat and after 60+ years it is all she needs for another 60. I can prep it and be all ready for the craftsman . I can do the 3 coats of Epifanes to complete, and pay will reflect my appreciation for your. work. There must be someone close enough to Rochester to give it a go. Maybe a few bottles of Makers Mark, or whatever. Dave
  8. FROGGER , and me too. I have an outboard that needs glass over hull and need help from someone who knows what they are doing with glass and epoxy- not a big job but the show boat needs a craftsman. I am in Rochester as well. Thanks Dave DeVivo
  9. Isn't money the driver for over harvesting ? No catch should be for sale. Seems like another distraction to play around the edges. We don't enforce the laws we have now on limits, size and snagging, etc. So without effective enforcement and punishment that fits the crime, forget it. These things probably start in the home, anyway, just the opposite of some of the heartwarming hunter/fishing examples we see often on these pages. Still, Merry Christmas !
  10. Sherman takes me back some into 1964 and just married: FIRST DEER in my life in NH with my new Marlin RC 336 30/30 lever action with a Williams peep sight, and she saw the deer first ! Every deer since in NY with my 1964 REM 870 Wingmaster 20Ga 3" mag pump. Shortened smooth bore with a Polychoke on slug. A Williams peep sight for the Brenneke Magnums. A light gun in any woods with silky action and a tack driver way out there. Mrs loves her Winchester 12 Ga. pump 1300XTR Mag. with 2-3/4 Brenneke. ALL GOOD, but only hunt uphill now, with some wicked nice memories.
  11. Too set in my ways to change now: since 1954 I have babied my outboard my cylinders for the winter this way, starting then with my 1.1 and last week for my 1986 Yamaha 40EL. I have this antique little trigger operated half pint oil can filled with whatever clean 2-cycle oil left over. with the plugs out and the engine tilted up, I squirt too shots toward the upper cylinder wall and let it sit a couple of minutes then lower the engine and turn it over at least one cycle. I replace the plugs and will change them out in the Spring. I have never had engine issues in the head doing this so I think I may get away with not making the change. I know, TMI, Dave
  12. And does the Public serve their Government....Yeah....as has been said, " a Republic if you can keep it "
  13. I agree with Frogger and Prof T.........and am compelled to offer how much simpler the mask issue is. I grew up knowing that someone who thought and knew more than I did was, for the moment, the Expert. Sort of a KISS thing, I guess.
  14. Hi, Kayslay...need help...you posted pic on Nov. 18, 2019 with your Striker 7CV. I have a new Striker Plus 7CV with the GT20-TM ducer. Would you share what setting you used for the pic you show in the post. I think I should be able to pick up my jig at depth an have as large a pic as you get. I was set at Chirp 77 full screen. Thanks, Dave

    Canandaigua Canandaguia Launch

It looks like I can put in my 17 Sea Nymph OK with what is there at the moment, or is it very shallow at the end of fhe short pad there ? Anyone do this ? I gotta go...pushing 80 here and not much in the mood to stay in the driveway ! Thanks, Dave
  16. I love this thread.....especially hearing that so many good guys hate eating the fish. I bet they feel the same way about the caviar and pate'. Life is goooood !
  17. The older I get , the more I wish for a longer season....just don't enjoy 3 days in a row. I had a beagle named SUSHI, and she retrieved bunnies from deep in the thorns. God, I miss that girl.
  18. Good morning Rol-man......I prepare a product known as Gravlox which is a Scandinavian version. I usually bring it to a Holiday party especially New Years. It is really an easy prep, and the next time I get to it, I'll have you here to see. Or you can see the recipe on page 17 in the Silver Palette Cookbook ( ? edition ). I use Wegman's salmon fillets about 5 pounds total cut from the center section for good fit. They say serve with Vodka or the better matched Aquavit , both nice but a little tough at breakfast. ROL, do it for the upcoming Holidays and they will not forget you ! I am close by , so let me know how she goes. Have fun Dave
  19. WOW, Speedy.....would you tell what bow and scope you used. Pushing 80 here and time for a change to something a little quieter. Thanks, WOW Dave
  20. WOW...even from the pic....Looks like a TRAGEDY ready to go ! I would bet you are way too light on tongue weight. I would go to a truck weigh station and see what your boat with all your gear with gas weighs. Then determine the correct tongue weight for this load. Then make sure the wheel/tire capacity is correct for the boat as loaded . If all ok, then I bet you will have to move the boat up the trailer. If you can, move the winch up enough to get the rear overhang down....way too much for my comfort even as regards your transom support, though just a guess. Boy, I'd feel great to see your adjustments later ! Good luck.
  21. Marine ply is for me...what thickness did you use. You are doing really good work. Dave
  22. Well, Champ......looking at those two bambies, I think you may have at least come close to getting your perfect doe much earlier. Wow, many memorable time ahead ! Christmas gift...ya-ah
  23. Retired antique canoe restorer needs a 3/8" plywood bottom refinished on a 14' Showboat . Custom designed and built by me in 1960. would appreciate knowing of someone in the FLA who is " show Minded " to do the work. I can do it , but a little worn these days. Thanks for any recommendation. Dave
  24. Well, we just saved the life of one expensive stand wrapped in a vest ! I remember still hunting in the Hi-Tor woods and maybe 100 yards out, saw brown movement with a white patch kinda flicking around the brown. I was just under a ridge mainly focused on the flat below, and peeking over the ridge every so often just because. With an open peep I really couldn't confirm, so just stayed alert. As I went further on and over the ridge closer to the brown patch, you might guess what the deer really was. Yes, a hunter with no orange anything, wiping his nose with a white hanky, in a stand that was placed just low enough, over another little ridge so all I could see was his imitating a deer with an itchy tail. This happened almost 40 years ago, and I feel just like PAP remembers. WOW ! My dad always said consider the what if ??? and much later I learned about FMA ( failure mode analysis ) There ya go....that was one lucky Dude ! Stay safe .
