  1. thats an overcast day color for me
  2. I picked up a couple of the dual axis rod holders for my boat. After a couple times out, they seem really sloppy and loose, just on the swivel/rotating action. I looked at the bottom but couldnt figure out how to tightne them up? Anyone else have this? or solutions to fix? thanks moe
  3. elite 7 is a definite step up from elite 5, if you are soley fishing lake ontario, looks for a unit with 200/50 sonar......the 455/800 setting is more for the down imaging which is more of a shallow water feature....the elite 7 can use the new navionics uptate chip which allows for pretty good detail on the "sonarcharts" udate
  4. cheaper and versatile system on smaller boats is to run a minnkota with autopilot......just put a lock directional setting on....works well in waves less than 3ft, i have a terrova off a 19 ft lund....
  5. I just posted this on another site comparing hds to elite 7......dont do it! I went through the same decision process, ultimely after doing a little research, I bought the elite 7....wrong choice....... the elite 7 has the same sonar capabilities as the hds 7.....same peak to peak power etc....big difference is in mapping/gps, although the elite 7 has a "gold chip", it does not and cannot read the gold card to the full capabilities, the elite series units have less than a 1/3 of the detail of the actual gold cards....ie on the Niagara bar, the hds unit reads 33 contour lines on the drop off from 50 to 220feet....the same card on an elite unit reads 5 contour lines....same detail issues on lake erie.....the base lowrance hard drive map has more detail than the gold chip map......I have called lowrance and navionics about this.....it is not the chips...it is the ability of the unit to process the chip....this was supposed to be fixed with software version 1.8 to read the 1ft contour details......but it is not fixed....go with the hds unit
  6. have to agree with blue knight....white lightning ran with a plain glow white meat head was by far the best producer for me last year....bullfrog was next......if you can find a white lightning paddle, jump on it!
  7. looking at ordering some spoons, for the guys that have run them, for early season kings, april to june, what size are you runnning and what thickness?, I was thinking magnum razors?
  8. fished on friday and landed a bunch of matures, try 40 to 60 fow, divers back 100 to 140, put the spoons away and run spinnies and flies, or protrolls and flies, gps speed 2.0 t0 2.3...keep it slow
  9. elite 7 is awful....works great as sooner, for those of you that are happy with the map contour lines have you ever used anything else? there is NO detail in the map capabilities of the elite 7, I had an older lcx model with the classic navionics and that showed way more detail.....I called navionics and lowrance when I bought the unit, because i fiugured there had to be an error, and was initially told the problem is the "gold" card that comes with the unit is really a promo with not as much detail....forked over the cash for an actual gold card and low and behold no difference...spoke with lowrance again and they admitted they know the software isnt capable of reading the maps, even the new version 1.8......I complained bitterly about paying 850 for a unit that you cannot use properly.....they said they are working on another software update....and by the way...it keeps shutting off....just buy an hds 7 or better yet a bird
  10. I had done quite bit of researching this past winter for a new fishfinder plotter and basically narrowed done my search to a hds 7 or elite 7. I do a mixture of soft water fishing, but mostly lake ontario and gbay. Pixel count was higher on the elite 7 than the hds, and rms output was the same, and both worked as chart plotter and could handle a gold chip, and both had broadband technology which would help on lake ontario. I did not plan on any additional add ons or networking, so i figured the elite 7 would cover all of my needs and the "gold" chip was a nice bonus. the positive first, Unit works great as a sonar, easy to use, but an "exit" button would be much nicer. I trolled lake ontario and was able to mark my cannon balls down to 175ft with the 50 degree cone. The chartplotter is a different story though, I uploaded the ''gold" chip to the unit and scrolled over lake ontario and was extremely dissappointed with the chart function on the navionics chart. Contour lines are marked in 40 to 50 feet sections, ie the niagara bar shows 4 contour lines going from 45 to 200ft,and there is very poor accuracy in the depth number listings as well. I assumed this was a mistake, so i brought back the unit to Fishing world, who were great in working with me to solve the problem. Ended up trying the actual navionics gold chip as opposed to the lowrance "gold" bundle and no difference in clarity of charts. Ended up calling both navionics and lowrance/navico and the problem is not in the chips, but in the software. The software for the units is not complete yet as per lowrance and therefore unable to fully read the chip. This was after uploading the new software update which will "now enable 1ft contour lines on navionics". Needless to say I am extremely dissappointed in this and feel that I have a useless navionics chip/function after sheeling out 850 bucks after tax. Lowrance said they are trying to work on another software upgrade to solve the problem but no tentative release date. Great. My advice, stay away, until the bugs are sorted out.
  11. nice job steve! i hate driving to st kitts lol, cant wait for the north shore to heat up
  12. out of the cheaper digital scales, the best i have used so far is the matzou from crappy tire, accurate, doesnt bounce nearly as much as the berkley, and this is year 3 now with it
  13. Actually elite 7 and hds are not that different, and elite 7 actually has better screen resolution. and the power output is the same, and the screen size is slightly bigger, so unless you plan on adding networking capabilities and features, stick with the elite 7 info taken from lowrance site hds 7 gen 2 Output Power [kW] Max 250W Broadband, analog equivalent 30,000W and 32W Broadband, analog equivalent 3,750 W Display Resolution 480 x 640 (H x W) elite 7 Display Resolution 800 x 480 Power Output: RMS (PTP) Max 250W RMS, 30,000W Peak to Peak analog equivalent the don't list the broadband output on the elite 7 info, but they have this info Broadband Sounderâ„¢: Max 1000 ft / 305 m @ 83/200 kHz Broadband Sounderâ„¢: Max 2500 ft / 762 m @ 50/200 kHz
  14. i have an 1950 with 225 yamaha, love the boat! i upgraded from a mr pike17 and after having lower sides with the mr pike, i wanted something higher than the pro v offered, but i fish bass, muskie and a little walley and the 1950 was not too high up on the front casting deck, compared to the baron, happy searching!
