  1. Launched at the south end this morning and we were surprised to see the 55 degree temp down at 110' and most of all the fleas were back like it was July. Has anyone else seen this in October? We boated just undersized LLs which were quite thin! It got a bit rough so we bailed at noon!

    Comments about October fleas??

  2. Andy, It's been a good year we've targeted just the silvers in the 50' range tried to stay in the 53 degree temp range. No consistent place one time the east side then the west, the best spot has been around crowbar with greens and blues at 2.3 ish speed at the ball plenty of bows if you find them they'll be others.

For us the riggers fired the best followed by lead, for whatever reason dipseys went sour!

Everything went back except for two LLs that were damaged the last trip, we're looking for a good winter.

Let me know how you do!

  3. I almost hate to bring this up but here goes....honestly what are your thoughts on just how more productive is using fluoro on leaders over mono for trolling. I'm given up  on fluoro mainly because I've donated way too much gear to the depths because of damage/knots etc.

I've switched back to Big Game and haven't really noticed a difference. Maybe it's me or is it one of those things that catches fishermen.

I'm curious to hear what the other finger Lake guys have to say?

    Let it fly guys!

  4. That's all I use, I run 20' of 50 lb braid off my wire so to the dipsy so when my wire is on the spool as I fold my rods it prevents kinks in the wire then braid to the flasher. IMO at the depths the lakers are at I don't see any sense using floro but without stretch you might rip the lips off the lakers LOL

  5. Pretty much the same here plenty of LLs in the 16" to 20" range green worked best for us as the morning wore on we switched to blues. Everything went back but two which got beat up pretty bad these will be great fish for this winter or next spring. Cayuga has the potential for a quality fishery for a few years, no bows this trip, we worked the Myers area with the 50' range have the temp we looked for. We did several small lakers but we stayed up high.

  6. We ran the south end again today couldn't find many quality silvers, we dumped one nice bow at the boat and boated a 4 lb LL everything else was small. The 54 temp we were looking for was at 55 to 60 ft which was much deeper than last week. We did make it to T-Falls, the DEC must have dumped a load of LLs in so we didn't stay long in that area, I question how many of them actually survive after they're released.

On a good note we tried running braid and the fleas seemed to be gone!

  7. We were along side you twice in a black Lund we stayed high in in the water column looking for silvers. We didn't keep count but we did bring several nice bows in that put on spectacular jumps, green honey bees at 40' worked best for us. Everything went back for another day, it was refreshing to see the number of rainbows on the rise. As soon as the rains started it shut down but it turned on again after it stopped.

  8. North End of Cayuga seems to hold quite a few fish we boated about 30 today 3 nice LLs about 5 lbs & a Bow about 6 lbs many small LLs and lots of lakers in the 6 to 9 lb class.

I've follow the thread about overload so I thought I would throw my 2 cents in for whatever it's worth, we hit the lake hard all winter and it had us scratching our head where have they gone. We caught fish but not like other winters, then comes April and some of the biggest browns that I've ever seen came out of the south end where we pounded all winter. so can you fish these lakes out?          IMO no.......

Just when I think I've figured things out...... then bam things change

it took me a long time to realize that these silver fish have a relatively short life span and the DECs stocking program has the biggest impact on our success which of course we as sportsman fund with our license fees.

So the lake and the fish are there for all of us to enjoy.

For the most part these lakes are put and take are far as the silver fish.

On another note the larger fish had some enormous eels on them.

That's my thoughts I don't know if I'm correct but............

  9. I had a 2008 175 Opti that was a nightmare! It overheated in the winter, after the powerhead was changed, thermostats, water pump etc then Mercury put a flow device in the pushed more water through it resolved the overheating in the winter but it overheated in the summer, After 4 years of frustration we finally worked out a deal to replace it with a 150 4 stroke which I love. This motor was trouble from day one, it had only 75 hours on it, finally a Mercury rep and I meet a T-falls and he admitted that they didn't know what the problem was!

I did recently talk to a Lund dealer who explained the troubles that they had with the valves that era and they dubbed them Opti pops because of the failures.

  10. unit #2 is running at 20% for voltage support until the new transmission line is built from Auburn to the Substation. The gas conversion was defeated so the plant will be mothballed, it's now operating at a loss but subsidized by the ratepayers because of the voltage issue. It a controversial issue it's one of the cleanest coal burning plants in the country, regardless it is what it is. They latest figure that I heard was it accounted for 14% of the tax base in Lansing.

You're right on Hermit...we can shut them down but ever wonder where the power is now coming from????
