  1. As far as I'm concerned Simrad has lousy customer service. I had one of those units on my hydraulic steering it gave me fits for the first year I owned it. After  many many phone calls the computor was replaced and the linear unit plus I had them check the pump and after all the parts were replaced I dumped it and as far as I am concerned that got rid of a ton of aggravation.

  2. Thanks for the update on Cayuga, we're not expecting much other than a good outing. The winter fishing (IMO)has slacked off a bit but that's the way it goes these lakes seem change year to year. I like the topwater stuff and Cayuga has been good to us in the past. We'll work the top at daybreak and drop down and we'll see what happens. It will be interesting if the lamphrey issue is still there!

  3. That was us................you have the right idea! However, nice day for a boat ride! We're gonna check out Cayuga for a change of pace then probably move up towards Severne! We've done OK on the south end but really haven't found the big boys! Plenty of undersize LLs and 17" to 19" class LLs. We found the browns at 50' with most success on spoons, dipseys have produced little this year for us!

  4. Hooked up with Redeyes, our best bite was early plenty of shakers. We kept 4 for the smoker. The bite early was up near the surface and later in the morning 50' was where most of our action was with a mix of spoons and stick baits. We didn't find one thing that worked best! We didn't find he big guys the ones we kept we're in the 20" range, the rest were put back. Hopefully the big boys will show up later in the winter!

  5. Took the first trip of the winter season today, launched at Clute and worked the west shore. We boated a mixed bag of browns & LLs I normally don't count but we were close to 20 or more. We kept 5 for the smoker in the 4 lb range and releasded some quality fish. It was a spoon bite today only one came off a spin doctor & fly, everything was deep that we found active in the 70' + range. The largest amount of bait was in 150 FOW. The best advice that I can share is be there early it was hectic in the first hour then picked up again at noon. It was a great day to be on the lake, just the right amount of chop and cloud cover.

  6. Keep in mind that the x5 adds a mechanical aspect to your hydraulic steering, it's a good unit. I've had an X5 and I replaced it with a Garmin GHP 10 which IMO opinion is the unit to have for hydraulic steering. The X5 is easier to install, the Garmin can be tricky but unlike the older hydraulic units the pump has a bypass so it can be replaced without tearing the system apart.

I beat this issue to death before I replaced the X5

PM me if you want more info

  7. I suggest going to Garmins web site and download the installation and operation. I highly recommend the unit however it has to be laid out and well planned in advance because of the of the lack of shorter hose lenghts that are available, compass location, computor etc. Take the time to read it several times before the purchase.

    Questions?

    PM me

  8. What you're looking for is a Baron Magnum. I have a 20' Tyee magnum it's the smaller version of the Magnum. The last year that they were made was 2008. After that for whatever reason Lund went to the fish & Ski transom. They are tough to find used, most hang on to them because of the quality & price!

  9. Just installed a Garmin GHP 10 so far so good. I've had a Simrad AP12, Ramarine Sport Pilot, & X5. This unit is far superior, if you have hydraulic steering, it's pricey and can be difficult to install because the hose lengths.

It links to the GPS or tach, my main motor & kicker are tied together so the GPS is used instead of he tach
