Got the brown about 15 minutes later on green flasher with frog squid. Yup Squid remember those from the 80's? 250 on the wire at a 1-1/2. spent another hour before king hit. Teenager on wire - same settings. another couple hours after that, then double kings just at sunset. one around 20- the other a teen. both on wire. 300 back on a 2 setting, and 200 back on a 1 setting. all in all not a bad way to spend the afternoon. ====================
  2. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: brian luke / rebel bandit ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):8/29 Time on Water: 7 hrs. Weather/Temp:sunny - 85 Wind Speed/Direction:sw 5-8 Waves: 1 ft. Surface Temp: 71 Location:sodus LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 4 Total Boated:2 Species Breakdown:kings Hot Lure: flasher/fly Trolling Speed: 3 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 125-320 Lure Depth: 110-80 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS spent most the day washing lures. around noon kings and bait showed up. just lit up the screen. stbd dipsy went off 320 ft of wire on 1 setting. landed 27-4 king. fish was still in the net when port dipsey went off. same settings. fish ripped 300 ft of wire and another 100 of backer before line broke. Been catching these thins for 30 years, and never felt one like this before. truly would have been at top or near top of board. Kinda depressing, but thats the way the game goes. overall a pretty expensive day. 2 dipseies, 600 feet of wire, 1 spin doctor / fly. ====================
  3. We keep our boat there. we'll be on the water by 6. give a shout out to rebel Bandit, or look for the 18 foot lund (dark blue) with the standup top, and 2 idiots trying to troll through the ice. Brian
  4. you'll be better off looking inside the bays, this cold water will probably have sent them in there. Either that just skim the shoreline with a net for the shocked ones
  5. We pretty much just bounce em off the bottom when they start running in the bay. Have to run them too fast for this cold water. i would stick to flashers.
  6. I wouldn' think of going out tomorrow (thurs.) Friday looks doable (3 footers) and the weekend a little better than that. Hope you have a BIG boat!!!! From the twitters i would say start at 150 and work from there. With the water this cold you may have to slow down a bit. I would set out a school of flasher flies to try to tick off lethargic fish.
  7. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: rebel bandit ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):8/22 Time on Water: 7 hrs Weather/Temp:rain - wind 72 Wind Speed/Direction:ese-e 10-20 Waves: 3-5 Surface Temp: 74 Location: straight out the chute LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 3 Total Boated: 2 Species Breakdown: brown / king Hot Lure: flasher / howie Trolling Speed: 2.6-3.2 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 130-140 Lure Depth: 50-70 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS brown hit 275 wire 2-1/2 setting. nk 28 king hit 70 deep rigger white flasher/fly. Came DOWN from 40 to take it. 28 lb. 2 oz. ====================
  8. Fished from 6 till 1:30. BRUTAL DAY!!!! 4-5's all morning till about noon. NE winds not good for fish production. Only had 1 rigger as other ones switch bit the dust. Still ended up with 2 nice coho's 12 & 9 lbs. ! steelie about 7lb. and one football brown about 6lb. Best screen was 140-180 in a.m. , but fish moving out as thermoclime rose higher. Ended the day 190-200. No kings. Seems they're still out farther. Try again Sunday. Maybe lake will calm down so we can venture out with our 18 footer.
  9. Yeah but when i say 18 it's really 17-6 Look for the Lund with the stand up top. No head either. unless you can count the bucket.
  10. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:rebel bandit ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): Time on Water: Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: Surface Temp: Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: Total Boated: Species Breakdown: Hot Lure: Trolling Speed: Down Speed: Boat Depth: Lure Depth: ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS we will be out there fri. and sat, but our boat won't meet minimum standards as it's only 18 ft. Good luck to all. If things get slow give us a call, and we'll clue you in to what we're using. Still can't find the big kings, but we're hauling in some really nice bows, and tons of browns. We will be on the water and rigged before the tourney starts, so we should have a couple in the boat before you are even rigged. Call out to the rebel bandit. Ed and Brian. ====================
  11. We also run the flea flikr line. we tie it to the mono with a blood knot and spool up about 100 to 150 ft. on the reels. just enough to cover the line in the water. Works great. Now if they could come up with flikr wire.

  14. just watch the depth of water, and rigger depths. You might consider scatching the parachutes. probably holding you too slow. you want to be going 2-1/2- 3 over ground on your GPS. if you have a paddle wheel, or even better down speed, you will want to keep those at about the same speed. Watch your rigger cables for any wierd currents down there. (if your cables are swinging to the side while your going straight thats a pretty good sign things arent right down below). Sounds like flasher/ flies are the hot setup out that way. Get out to 130ft. and set the riggers about 80 ft. down. Run a white e-chip, or spin doctor, with a white or green fly. On the other rigger run a black/green glow nk 28. Put sliders down in case the steelies are feisty. You will also SERIOUSLY want to consider a couple wire lines. (i call em lead core for deep fish). Keep the lures running right, and the fish will be there.
  15. no size that's why we call em "chicks". biggest king about 8 pounds. atlantic was pretty impressive though. about 8-10. nice battle.
  16. Nick, we tucked behind LeRoy to ride out the tstorm, and hit the lake about 7 a.m. got a nice atlantic off the wire on a 2 setting 175 ft. of wire. hit 2 chick kings on same 1 side 200ft of wire out, other side 250 ft. of wire. 2 settings all day. last chick came off the rigger at 45 feet. running green/black/silver nk's. fished about 160 ft. of water. feel free to give us a call when you see us out there. We're in the little (17ft.) lund with the standup top. Boat name is Rebel Bandit. I'm Brian, and our skipper is Ed. Usually just the 2 of us.
  17. We usually land almost everything on core, but really never tried running flasher on it. have to think about that one.
  18. you want a reel that holds LOTS of line.. you might find a daiwa 47 even to be a little small. ypou need at least 100yards of mono backer. going into the core line. we use a single 10 color spool of lead, then about 50 feet of mono leader to the swivel. Mono we use is 25 lb. with 27 pound leadcore. works great for big bows in the spring to early summer. we still put it out now, but haven't got much action on it for a couple weeks now. Blood knots to connect lines.
  19. left the dock at Sodus at about 4:30. Got on the lake about 5 and decided we beteer head back in to ride out the storm. South wind about 5-8 blowing at the time. We tucked in behind LeRoy Isl. just in time. Waited out the storm (about 15 min.) and headed out. SE to E winds about 10-15. waves never got over 1-1/2' down there. Heard the guys out of Roch. talking 4-5 footers, and thought they were exaggerating. Blew pretty good from the East for a coiuple hours, then winfd died down again about noon. landed 1 atlantic, and 3 chicks. all in all not a bad day for us. The shoe drops on the other foot with a 15-20 west wind for us.
  20. those are about the smallest dolphin I have ever heard of. Sounds like you guys did'nt do much research, cause the best sportfishing down there is at the dry tortugas off the keys. I can't afford that kind of trip, but had I won the spring derby, I certainly wouldn't have chosen Lauderdale as a destination. Good luck with the trip though. You may just hook a BIG Cuda if there's that may baby fins around. Maybe next time post here BEFORE you plan the trip to get some better input. Brian

  24. No. Don, and Louise do not rent ice fishing gear. More problems than it's worth.
