  1. thanks for the report thinking of getting out soon as long as the winds allow
  2. I like running spoons in the spring any colour in the 100' zone guys enjoy running plugs in shallow for browns off boards
  3. Agree guys are getting there sleds ready, but the Niagra river is a good place to see guys out fishing
  4. Good stuff buddy I was out there my self, in the same size boat as yours I know where your coming from but with the price of gas going UP UP UP I kinda like my size of boat We fished in the same area and went 10 for 10 biggest being 26lb
  5. I just finished putting my first wire together and I did not but any backing on except some mono so that the wire does not slip and I used the albright knot and it worked great, and as mcds7 mentioned I am waiting to get out and attach a dipsy diver backwards and reespool the whole thing again so it's nice and even.
  6. Great report thanks for the information and better luck on your next trip
  7. I believe that I will most likely go with a longer rod as unfortunately I do have a small boat, I truly thank everyone for the information and there honest opinion cheers to you all
  8. Much appreciated for the information and good luck in the upcoming season
  9. Guys I am looking to set up my first wire rod, I am getting an early start as I need to spread the cost out so that the wife does not use the revolver on me. The question is I enjoy my 10' Talora rods for my divers but the cost of a 10' roller rod to an 8' is insane, so I was hoping to get some input on which length works best in this application thank you in advance
  10. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): Saturday Time on Water: 6:00am Weather/Temp: sunny 21C calm Wind Speed/Direction: 10km NW Waves: 2 foot Surface Temp: 68 Location: Port Credit LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 9 Total Boated:5 Species Breakdown: 1 rainbow 4 kings Hot Lure: fly Trolling Speed:2.6-3.1 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 130 Lure Depth: 40-100 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== I finally got a weekend to go in the morning but of course could not stay out to long because it was my sons 7th birthday so all and all I was pleased to have the wife let me go. Funny before kids and the wife things seemed so much easier fishing trips hanging around with the guys but any ways. Did get the chance to head out from Port Credit and fish for a little with the old man and I am very glad we did as he and I finally had our riggers fire for the first time instead of the dipsy. Actually all fish but one came on the rigger and what a great feel fight the fish and not the whole weight and set up. All and all I had a great time as I finally got my PB at 27.95lb . Now what I need is to get in the top 10 which means I need to push 30+ and I cannot wait good luck to all.
  11. I agree completely this winter I bought two riggers thinking I was missing out on fish and all this year all my fish came on the dipsy
  12. It is quit fascinating how diverse the diet of the fish are and to see them foraging on insects out in the middle of the lake like this would have never crossed my mind. I always thought that the keratin pigment of the flesh was from shrimp but I guess it comes from the bugs on top as well still quite amazing that there is such a bug live out where there is no vegetation.
  13. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): July 11 Time on Water: 11am-1:30pm Weather/Temp: sunny Wind Speed/Direction: non Waves: 0 Surface Temp:68 Location:Port Credit LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 1 Total Boated:1 Species Breakdown: Rainbow trout Hot Lure: Williams spoon Trolling Speed: 2.5-2.9 Down Speed: --- Boat Depth: 250 Lure Depth: 40-70 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Well after a slow start yesterday after church I decided to tack the family out thinking the fishing conditions had to improve, well I was not expecting much but not worse but a day with the family out on the lake is a treat on it's own. The fish where not cooperating again I managed to pull one rain bow out which hit my spoon on the surface while I was clearing fleas off my line and that's all the day wrote for fish. The funny thing is when I cleaned the trout out my kids where interested to find out what was in the stomach of the fish so I opened it and the answer is think about this one---answer bottom of pictures What I found is 3 ladybugs and 4 Japanese beetles with spines water fleas that's amazing as I told my kids we should find other bait fish Ha
  14. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): July 10 Time on Water:6am-12pm Weather/Temp: clear Wind Speed/Direction:15km NW Waves: 1' Surface Temp:60-64 Location:Port Credit LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 2 Total Boated:0 Species Breakdown: Hot Lure: spoons and flies Trolling Speed: 2.6 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 150-250 Lure Depth: 40-90 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Well the beginning of the Ontario salmon derby did not go as planned we lost both hits and one felt like it had some weight behind it, had a chance to fight it for ten minutes before it spat the hook out. All and all I did not see anyone grabbing a rod nor was there a pattern to boat traffic everyone kind of drifted around looking for fish and I think any one that got something where lucky I am going to blame the cold front on this one, see you tomorrow
  15. Many years ago in the 80's when you turned on your TV on a Saturday morning and every channel was a fishing show, there was a show don't remember the title of the show but the captain fished out from B.C. Canada and I believe he was the first to attach a camera to the down rigger to film fish behaviour when trolling. One episode was based on if fish care what the lure smells like and they experimented by dipping spoons into gas, motor oil, and on believe it or not it had no effect on the fish they seemed perhaps more skittish but at the end they all hit the spoon.
  16. Excellent report better pictures that's the biggest Atlantic I ever seen caught out on the lake way to go
  17. I hear you load and clear, I have two young boys that seem to suck money out of my pocket like lamprey on a lake trout, or is that my wife any how I went cheep thinking I was going to save money when I bought the Magda but in the long run I lost money as I just had to replace it.
  18. I would not take a Magda reel for free, but I do like the Okuma reels and if I was going to spend the money on a Accudepth I would rather spend ten dollars more and get the Okuma Convector which for the money is worth every penny.
  19. You will not find Kings at the mouth of Ganny at the date you mentioned, the fish are out more but you don't need to make long runs like at Port Credit the water gets deep quicker at Port Hope. The fish are there first and it's worth trying as I will be doing the same thing the salmon make there migration from east to west so if you want to hookup with some that's a great start.
  20. Those are some good looking fish for your first time you did great, great report and awesome pictures guy's
  21. great stuff getting more excited to get out there my self
  22. I have a 17 foot sylvan and for the past two years now I have been going out on the big lake and usually run 15+ miles the only difference between us and them is we need to always be thinking about the weather and what is coming around the corner but you will find many days that are perfect and the fishing is nothing but fantastic
  23. ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS I thought I just say that I just received my Family Ticket for this years Ontario salmon derby, I still have not ventured out on the lake for the fish nor to try out my brand new Scotty down riggers. My buddy from Jb's mocked me for not trying but I know the minute I go out on the lake I will get my personal best and that's it so for now I will stay to my green fish and inland lakes tight lines and good hook sets to everyone ====================
  24. Great stuff, I still remember my first fish from the boat from the big water and have a good picture of it to, actually my wife reeled it in I still call it mine though
