  1. Had over 80 pics from last night between 645pm - 545am this morning. 5 different bucks and a ton of doe. Wind was not in my favor so I had to sit in a stand I normally save for gun season. With the leaves gone and timber removed from logging i quickly realized it had to go. I found a nice transition area from field/hardwoods to bedding area with some thick stuff. Two fresh scrapes along the edge. It looks promising.

  2. Tough weekend for us. One deer in cut bean field at 620 am on my walk in, too dark to see what it was. Perfect conditions but no movement. All cameras have been dead including nighttime movement. Rain here for next two days ....

  3. Rain sucks. I was in the stand getting wet without my raingear when around 7:30 am, a woman comes walking by...she shot an eight point last night and was trying to find it, but was unfamiliar with the property lines. I got down and helped her look for an hour, along with her boyfriend, but to no avail. She only got 8" of penetration, sounded like a single lung shot (her boyfriend saw the shot and the blood was bright red frothy). They tracked it for ~150 yards last night before deciding to let it lay, but low and behold the freakin' rain came and the blood trail was gone. They'd hoped it had bedded in my field and died. No such luck.

So, I got soaked, didn't get to hunt, and she didn't find her deer. Not a day for the books.

Good deeds often will be rewarded.

  4. Some times the property just does not setup well for daytime movement. Last year was the first time I hunted on a new property that my father bought and it had tons of deer sign, but hardly any daytime movement. I knew I would have to manipulate the circumstances in order to get numbers during legal light. So three food plots later I have at least 8-14 does during legal light every day. It's just tough for the guys who are not able to make any land improvements, I feel for them as they are in a real bind if the property is not a good one.

That is my property. It is a 250 acre farm that the owner leases out to to Co-Op. I am at the mercy of what they plant and when they harvest. My “section” is between a bedding area and the crops. I either get movement first light/last light or not at all. I’d love to own a piece of my own to plant some plots but I cannot complain as I have somewhere to hunt

  5. October 21 pm
Daytime high of 72 degrees but 54 at dusk
    Cloudy
    SW wind 10-15 becoming calm
    Showers subsiding around 3ish

Weather seemed like it was going to make for a good pm hunt and I guessed right for once. Rain quit, temps cooled down, and wind died right down. Last hour was like magic out there in the cut beans. 30+ deer, 7-9 bucks (two shooters). Lots of chasing, bumping, and scent checking of does. Couldn't help but feel sorry for the does Watched 3 bucks work different field scrapes and I walked past 5 scrapes on my walk in! Things are about to get good out there!!!

You see more deer in one night than I do all season. I’m excited to see one or two a day out my way. Love following you guys and all the stories. Makes for my long “eventless” sits tolerable

  6. Haven’t been out in a week due to my wife having back surgery. She had a good today and told me to go out this afternoon. Been getting a lot of deer on my cameras all week so my hopes were high. Just heard a different pattern of leaves crunching from the squirrels. Sound was getting closer and coming my way. I stand up and grab my bow and wait for it to come. Then it shows up. Someone’s 60lb dog running loose ...... still feels good to be back in a stand IMG_9218.JPG

  7. I had the same thing, updated the firmware and installed a new microSD card, and it's fine. Before the firmware update, it wouldn't even save pictures to the card, even though it ran fine all winter. I think they had a compatibility issue with an update, but didn't roll it back. Also, the Spypoint is definitely pickier about where it's located than my Moultrie cameras. Moving it 50 feet was like night and day.

Been dealing with same issues on 2 SPYPOINT cameras for over a month. Both Link-Micro. I’ve been on phone with support 2-3 times a week and there nothing more to do or try. I also noticed placement is super important. Sometimes changing tress just 15’ away makes
    A difference.

I also have a Moultrie and so far no issues with that one....(knock on wood)

My cameras worked fine for a month or better and then just stopped. Did everything mentioned, new SD, formatted, new firmware, batteries etc. they work as a “normal” camera and just store the pics on the SD card. There is a TRANSMIT folder on the SD card where you can see that the pics loaded but never get sent to the server or my phone

  8. Another one out there that has vast amount of draw weight/length is the Diamond SB-1. I have no experience with this one but did see it in stores last year.

Same easy adjustment with just an Allen screw

  9. The games have begun. We decided we
Weren’t going to do all day sits just yet due to lack of daytime deer movement on our cameras. Got out of stand at 1130 to be back at camp for lunch at 12. While there my phone goes off and wouldn’t you know it...... IMG_9102.JPG

  10.

Not putting the cart before the horse but rather being pro-active. Looking for everyone’s choice of taxidermist especially any one that does black bear.

I have put a ton of time in on my property and have some great bears on camera. Talking with the wife she said she would rather have a full mount versus a rug if I am able to harvest one

I don’t want to rely on the internet and get something back I’m not happy with.

IMG_8860.thumb.JPG.191296e43091ef7b9664e3f7a85496cd.JPGI’m willing to travel if I can find a good one.

  11. Is there a better time of year to troll with plugs ? Tried different sizes and colors but only takers were on ff or on flasher/meat.

Now is the time. Adjust the lead off the rigger and your speed until you find what triggers them. I run my plugs close to bottom and will usually run a bit faster for more erratic action. As in any fishing they will have there day but always run a mixed spread and let the fish tell you what they want.

  12. Good news, no fleas. Started in 430 FOW nearly straight out maybe a bit east.  48 degrees about 75ft down but varied a bit until fishhawk transducer wire to battery pack broke.. New battery pack is on its way ($15 dollar part).  Rigger popped before we finished putting in, buddy picked it up, nothing and I see what was most likely a steelhead jump twice behind the boat.  After 3 hours of fishing between 50 and 100ft down and nothing to show we picked up and went inside near coal plant, setup at 150, went as shallow as 90, marked bait and fish, lost another jumper but at least got to fight it for a minute.  Learned that carrying extra AA batteries for transducer is just not enough some days
    20200812_192755.thumb.jpg.f2f60314cebce04438616626f381dd2e.jpg

Had the same thing happen to us with the probe battery pack while fishing the invitational. I stripped the wire back and wrapped It around the battery coil spring allowing us to finish the day with the probe working, but looks like this may be a design/manf. flaw
