I live in oswego and the last time I looked at the harbor (few days ago) there was a lot of ice build up on the shore line and huge chucks of ice floating all over the place. I would not recommend getting out yet, I think it will still be at least 2 or 3 weeks maybe longer before you see boats. I have not seen anyone out yet except drift boats in the river but they are out all winter after stealhead.

I havn't graduated to wire line yet even though I know there are a lot of benefits with it, I used it on my friends boats but I didn't like it much. I have used braided line for years do you recomend any brand? I was thinking maybe fireline crystal?

I got a good deal on some flouro it's 20lb but only 16lb diameter. Thanks for the info on the dipsys. I have a few rods still set up with heavier line that I will keep on for the dipsy's then, and I think I will use the new line for the rest. Thanks. Rob

I was just curious what pound line you guys are using for salmon on downriggers and dipsys. I was gonna set up my reels with 20lb flouro, I figure that's a good all around weight.

I ordered a 3000 yd spool of p-line yesterday after reading what you guys wrote about it, and it had great reviews on cabelas and basspro I can't wait to try it. I had a bad experience with vanish before ( giant birds nest), this stuff sounds much better though. Neither site had the spools of 3000 yd that I wanted so I had to hunt someone down on the internet.

Maybe I should try that!!! With the crappy luck I had last year I am ready to try anything!!

Just curious but what is this p-line that you are talking about? Do you buy it in large spools or can you have it spooled on reels for you somewhere? Sounds like a good choice to me, I just got 4 new rod and reels that I need to put line on. What pound do you use for salmon with that line?

I use the same torpedo weights that they sell on the atommik web site and my friends use them as well and they work great and are a heck of a lot cheaper than shark weights. We all use the 13 pounders and they work better than 15 pounders in some other types of styles like the ball weights. There are several stores that sell them as well. You can get them in Oswego at the salmon shop for 29.99 and at woody's tackle in pulaski (I think thats the city) for around 29.00. They have very little blow back.

I called the company and they said the colors that are out of stock they would have in a couple weeks and they would update the site when they come in. They will also let you place an order and call you when they come in.

This web site has some great custom colored lures that work great for stealheads. I can not find anyone that makes the pink colors anymore but these guys do and the prices are good. Just thought I would throw this site out for all you guys. Here is the link

Ok, seems like there are a lot of mixed opinions about the stuff so I think I will try a small jar of the pink smelly jelly and stink up my boat a little. Worst case senario I might have to explain to the wife what woman I had out in my boat!!! It's worth the heart ache if it helps catch more fish!!

I was thinking about trying smelly jelly on some trolling flies this year just wondering if anyone uses it and what scents work for kings. Thanks for any info. I hear it works well in north west U.S.

I was pretty sure thats what it meant but when I was checking some lures out on e-bay they had a stick bait type rapala listed as HJ-9. I was't sure if that was just a typo or not. I have used the jointed rapalas for years for pike and bass just never thought to try them on trout. I just ordered several of them to try in the spring. Hope they work as good as you guys say. Can't wait to get out again!

I was curious if all these J-9 & J-11 rapalas you guys are talking about are the jointed ones or the straight stickbait type?

I don't know much about NAFC but I have learned more from this site than any magazine I have ever had and Great lakes angler is very good I just joined recently.

I have always used the jointed rapalas j-11's and j-13's for pike in shallow water in the spring and they work great I didn't realize that browns like them too. Thanks for all the info guys.

I have never used rapala's for browns. I was wondering if any one could tell me what size, color and type work best for trolling for browns.

I have 5 alpena diamonds and several spoons that kind of look like a magnum michigan stinger in size and shape. Good to hear about the alpena diamonds though I plan to use them in the spring they are blue and silver. I don't understand why they stopped making that one if it works so well. Several people have told me the same thing about the alpena's.

Recently I bought an older tackle box from a friend of mine that was loaded with tons of luhr jensen trolling spoons in every color of the rainbow. I was just curious if anyone uses them and if they work at all. I normally use michigan stigers.
