  1. I’ve caught walleyes, browns, steelhead, and kings from shore above the bridge in Dexter but that’s in late fall and spring. They also fish off shore to the right of the boat launch. Decent for bullheads in the spring. Not sure what is available to catch this time of year.
  2. I bleed them and ice them. Fillet, take skin off and remove all brown along skin side and lateral line. This helps a great deal but people that only like white fish, like perch and walleye, and don’t like salmon which are more oily still might not like them.
  3. IMG_1632.mov IMG_1632.mov I think exposing kids to nature is critical to a kid’s development. IMG_1632.mov
  4. Got my grandsons out for an evening on the river. They had a good time and I loved it.
  5. Today we took a pontoon boat out for a family day on the river with little intention of fishing. After anchoring up in LOTI my grandson grabbed a rod rigged with a senko and began tossing it out while the girls were swimming. Sure enough he hooked up a respectable largemouth and landed it himself.
  6. Took a friend out around 9:00 and had a slow couple of hours. Found some active fish and went 9 for 12 with a bonus bass. Released 3 shorts and dropped 3. One I dropped I believed was a very large walleye as it was peeling drag. Even caught a double!
  7. I may have based my observation on my own opening day experience. IHave heard from others that they are catching smaller fish as well as big ones.
  8. Got out off Stony Point today. Once we found bait we had a decent day. Managed to land 4 salmon and a brown and dropped a few. Mostly on silver/green spoons off the riggers. Did take one on green dot spine doctor on wire dipsey.
  9. Anyone else noticing the lack of small bass in the river. Haven’t caught or seen many posted that are 13” or shorter. Where are the smaller fish? Many fish seem to be 15-18” and larger. This is concerning to me as I question if new fish are being produced. If you’re spent anytime on the water you you’re aware of the huge number of bass boats hitting the lake and river this week. On the other hand, I’ve been catching more undersized walleyes this year and a mix of walleyes ranging from 12-30” which to me is a sign of a healthy fishery.
  10. Sorry for your loss but memories remain forever.
  11. I’m a lucky man to have a wife that I can share my love of the outdoors with. In May we each caught a limit of stream trout followed the next day by doubling up on turkey. Today we made our annual opening day trip for smallmouths. Once we found them we caught a really nice limit each and released many more. I very seldom keep bass so I don’t feel guilty keeping them on our special day together.
  12. Got my long time friend Peter Stratton ( Mr Walleye) some nice walleyes this morning. Released 2 shorts, 1 long, and kept 3. IMG_6093.mov
  13. J.D. Thanks for sharing that video! I fortunately had many great days with my dad. Was even born on his birthday and married on his anniversary. He died at age 70 and was found laying next to a 4 point buck he had shot on opening day of a heart attack. It was the day after our birthday. I turned 70 in November and did go deer hunting that day and had many thoughts of the times we shared.
  14. This split bamboo rod was made by my dad. If you look closely you can see Ward G Legg. It was missing for many years and my brother Keith found it and passed it to me. Must be 70-80 years old. I wanted to fish it one time and my goal was to catch a limit but I came up one short as the reel seat glue loosened and I retired it. Great memories of a great father.
  15. Made it out again this morning with similar results. Was happy to see lots of smaller fish. Likely released 6 shorts. They’re fed up big time on gobies!
  16. First trip for walleyes on the river this year. In an hour and a half I caught 6 fish 23”,25”,26” and released a 17”, 28”, 30”.
  17. Just had some turkey vegetable soup. Delicious!
  18. This is thigh, leg, and carcass meat I got from the two jakes. I grind it into turkey burger or make into sausage. 5.2lbs. That most unfortunately waste.
  19. Yesterday my wife and I each caught our limit of stream trout in Saint Regis falls. Today we hunted here brother in laws farm after scouting and setting up yesterday. we had 3 jakes come right in and after passing on several jakes earlier I decided to double up. Very special couple of days with my wife.
  20. Lots showing up on trail cams this time of year!
  21. Guess this is confirmation.
