  1. There will soon be a full line of these available. They have been awesome! Check it out. Www.revolutiontrollingspoons.com. Recently patented design. Feel free to reach out to the owner, he is an amazing guy!!
  2. Started Friday morning at 5:30Am with the hopes of having 3 days on the lake, but of course, the weather just didn't cooperate. Friday morning we set up in 100 FOW and moved north, nothing moved until we crossed the surface temp break out past 230' to about 260'. Managed a steady pick throughout the morning, 5/5 with two mid teen kings, 2 steelies and one laker. In the afternoon we returned to the 230-250 range to start and moved north out past 350' with nothing moving. We moved back in to the 240' range and ended up 5/7, mostly smaller kings. We were able to sneak out Saturday morning for a very short run before the weather kicked us off the lake and ended 1/3 in the same depth range, small king put on the boat. The bite was mostly a spoon bite, 2 were on a meat rig, 2 flasher/fly and 7 on RTS 375 spoons. Green Ladder back, purple ladder back and orange did great out there. Depths were mostly in the 30-60' range, except for 2 fish on the meat rig we were runnng off a dipsey, 250'-280' out. Hopefully the bigger kings are going to be showing up soon, but any day out on the lake is a good one.
  3. Cool video, thanks for sharing! Blew my mind when I saw the one spoon had the same name as my boat! Lol! Thanks for running them. Good luck this weekend!!
  4. Good luck out there and be safe. Sorry about the last message, Allie was helping me! I guess it was a secret message for mrs ruff rider!!
  5. Good to see some decent fish rolling in!! Best of luck to all crews participating tomorrow. You are all winners supporting our vets in such a great event. My hat is off to each one of you! Wish I could make it up there this weekend to join you all but it just isn't going to work out this time.
  6. Best of luck this weekend! Can't control the weather but everyone has to fish in the same conditions. It should be a good time!
  7. This last weekend had been planned for several months to fish out of Sodus with a few good friends from PA, all day fishing on Saturday and Sunday, and I had arranged a cottage for us on Eagle Island to make it a full weekend. Early last week they had to cancel, and I was left scrambling for a replacement. On a whim I called my brother whose summer schedule rarely lets him take a weekend to himself, luckily he got coverage for work and it was all planned out. A weekend fishing trip with my brother, something we haven't had the chance to do for over 10 years together, between work, family obligations, military deployments, etc.... We started out at 5:30 Saturday morning setting up in 120' and working north to about 250' without much to show except for a few knock offs and one solid hit and a miss on a meat rig out on a dipsey 290. Finally around 9:30, we dropped all rigs deeper and had two misses immediately and then doubled up on dipseys set back 290 and 320 over 155 FOW, dropped one but finally boated the first king of the day. Went in to the cottage at noon for some lunch and a little relaxation before the afternoon run. Headed back out at 3:00 and went west, started at 150' and trolled north. First king came shortly after on a green board/green fly 85' down on rigger, and we found a line between 205-220 that we continued to work the rest of the evening that yielded several hits each time we passed through. Kings all came on a variety of flasher and flies, dipsies between 290 and 320 and riggers 85-95 down. A couple steelhead came on spoons, but nothing of any size. We packed up the gear and headed in at sundown with 5 kings between 11-17 lbs, one 9lb laker and 2 small steelies sent back to the lake. The evening was wrapped up cleaning fish under a dock light and drinking a few beers, dinner was grilled salmon and yellow squash from the garden. If that isn't paradise I don't know what is. Unfortunately, the winds Sunday morning prevented us from taking out my little boat for one last run for the weekend, but all in all it turned out to be an amazing weekend. You can see by the smile on my brothers face that he has kings in his blood now. As we were heading back to the ramp he kept talking about how he may be able to squeeze just one more trip in this year......
  8. Awesome. Was up at 430 this morning but with the winds my 16 footer wasn't gonna make it out there. We did fairly good last night out of sodus in 200-220.
  9. Nice Report. I doubt I will be able to get out this weekend so I will be waiting for the reports early next week. Good Luck!!
  10. BAZOOKAJOE - My boat is small but it gets the job done...on the nicer days of course. You always dream of a bigger and better boat, but I am thankful for what I have! The mark on the fish was interesting. The fin was completely removed, and very little scar tissue. The circle area looks about right for a lamprey, but it healed very clean. I think may just been an injury from something else. You can see that the bottom of the tail was pretty ragged too, maybe a trip into a tributary? I have fished out of Sodus the last three years and have appreciated the radio talk and posts on this site. As I am starting to get the hang of fishing the area I will sure to add any information when I can. I will make sure to let you know on channel 9 when I am out, probably won't be until the weekend after next, which is gonna kill me!!!
  11. The last two weekends I was able to get out for two half days out of Sodus on the Revolution. Both days turned out well with great weather and good June fishing. 6/7 - Solo trip and first of the year. Worked 100' out to 150 with most of my time spent between 115'-130'. Ran a combination of spoons and Flasher/fly rigs, both off riggers and dipsies. Ended the day 4 for 7, 3 kings and one steelie. The three lost hook-ups were acrobatic steelies that came off on the surface. One king was 14.5 pounds taken at 117' out 235' on a dipsy pulling a white board green dots and green fly, the second nice king was 16.5 pounds and came at 127', 55' down off a rigger pulling a green board with green fly. The rest of the fish were all caught or lost on various spoons, both green and orange took fish, all off riggers around 40-55'. 6/15 - What a great father's day, except that I wish I had brought the long underwear and a winter coat! Luckily there was a hot bite early in the morning to keep us going, it seemed to slow quite a bit mid morning as soon as the sun came out. We worked 150'-200' with pretty much the same program as the week before. We ended up 7 for 10 with one 10 pound king on a dipsey out 180', green board with a green fly, a nice 9 pound steelie on a revolution spoon down 55' off a rigger and a 16 pound king down 45' on a dolphin stinger. The bonus for the last two trips was the fact that 4 out of the 11 fish taken were on spoons designed and made out of my garage. It was very rewarding to build something from raw material and a little brain power and have the fish eat it up!
  12. Yes, you defintaly have me confident in running the meat rigs out there. Plus, it's been real nice having you on speed dial, when I'm out on the lake I can just call you for a color choice or depth to run at, Lake Ontario Tech Support!! I hope you don't start charging $3.99/minute....
  13. Had a few friends from PA in town for a weekend of fishing out of Sodus Bay. I have been fishing out of Sodus for the last four weekends, with similar results as everyone else, plenty of lakers and a few small kings here and there. 6/29 We set up in 100 FOW trolling north just West of the lighthouse, two dipseys out one with flasher/fly and one with a meat rig, and two riggers down 65 and 85 with flasher/fly and slider spoons. At 215' I let the meat rig drop back from 280' to 300' and immediately took a good shot, rod was handed off, and the fish ripped out to 550' on the first run. After 20 minutes and a few more good runs we had the fish in to a little over 200', that is when the rod took one more good scream and broke us off. Lesson learned, no more 30lb test on terminal gear. Worked out to about 280' with nothing more going, and then brought it back in to work from 180' to 220'. Got a good flurry mid morning in that range with steelies, browns and a small king on slider spoons, orange seeming to be the best color. Around noon we had worked in to about 100' and decided we would pull gear to head into the bay, last rod to be pulled was a green board with black dots with a green and white fly at 75' down. With my back turned trying to store gear the rod started screaming with another good hook-up, and ended with a High teens King in the net to end the morning troll. 6/30 What a beautiful morning, it was unbelievable to see the big O as flat as is was yesterday. Given the amazing conditions we followed one of the 'Sodus Bay Legends' out to 250' west of the point and worked out to 420', not something I normally do in my 16.5' boat. This time we ran two meat rigs off dipseys, and flasher/flies off the riggers. From 250' to 300' we had a good flurry, meat rig taking a hard shot but dropped quickly, and again picked up several steelies and a nice fat brown on the sliders. Orange crush and NBK taking fish. Moved back in to the 100'-150' range late morning and picked up a laker to end the day. Great weekend on the lake despite the rain on Saturday morning. Looking foward to July, looks like the fishing is starting to pick up. See you guys out there!
  14. Looking forward to a great morning tomorrow. I am planning to be going through the shoot at sodus before 6. See you out there!
  15. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 6/23-6/24 Time on Water: Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: Surface Temp: Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 12 Total Boated:4 Species Breakdown: Steelies Hot Lure: NK NBK Trolling Speed: 2-2.5 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 140-170 Lure Depth: 60-95 Started out the chute on Saturday about 5:45 and took a nice roller coaster ride for about an hour and a half. Just too rough to be effective (and keep everyone from getting sick). My boat mates for the weekend are avid bass fishermen, so we went into the bay where it was a little calmer, and was able to get them a pile of bass. Sunday turned out much better, being able to stay out on the main lake. Set rods in 120' and worked out to 180'. We had a great flurry starting at 140', we struggled keeping the rods in the water but only put two steelies in the boat. We circled back and worked the 140'-170' range and got another flurry around 9:00 AM. Aagin putting two more steelies in the boat. Shortly after everything slowed and we packed it in around noon. We ran mostly spoons and SD/fly combo, NBK and blue dolphin both taking fish, most hits came in the 80'-90' range. Still waiting to put the first King on the boat this year. I seem to be catching on to the steelies, but the Kings elude me. Soon enough I hope to get zeroed in on them.
  16. That's awesome! My wife is ready to go any day now too!! I figured it would be this weekend since we are having company in for the weekend, but so far she is holding out!!
  17. Will do, I have been tuned into channel 9 the last few weekends. Been fun listening to the reports and 'Hook-ups". I will let you guys know if I am doing any good, or not doing at all!! See you out there in the morning!!
  18. It was definately tough last weekend with the chop, just don't tell my wife what it was like! I usually keep updated by the NOAA site, great information off there, but at times, the conditions can be a little more than they predict. I plan to be launching as early as possible (5ish) and heading straight out. Thought I would be alone at the launch last Sunday morning, but got there at 5 and had to wait in line! Must have been 15-20 boats waiting for a bass tournament kickoff (I presume). Will be easier this weekend with extra bodies going out with me, not quite sure how I handled the boat and pulled lines last weekend, it was rough. But I made sure to get off the lake with the rest of you, no sense risking it by myself. Looking forward to a good morning, see you out there.
  19. ==================== Seems the last two weekends were fire, then ice. Fished out of Sodus Bay both weekends, two weeks ago having a glorious bite, and then last weekend, not so much. Quite a shift in the weather patterns last night and it looks like tomorrow will be a beautiful day, with winds NW. Anybody willing to make some predictions for the big day tomorrow?? I have a few friends coming up from PA, and I am sure we will have a great weekend, just being able to get out fishing together, but then again, I would love to get them hooked into some Lake Ontario fury, they haven't had that experience yet. Fish or no fish I look forward to being out there and I will be tuned in listening to how you guys are doing, that also has been a joy the last few weeks. Also hope the lake is kind this weekend, I have a 16.5' Lowe, and heavy waves can be rough on her. Last Sunday was definately a challenge for my solo trip! So what do you think? Do we have the makings of a good bite this weekend?? This work day can't end soon enough..... ====================
  20. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):6/10/12 Time on Water:6:30-11:00 Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: Surface Temp: Location: Sodus Bay LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 7 Total Boated:4 Species Breakdown:3 steelies, 1 Coho Hot Lure: Fat Bottom Spoons, Green and Orange colors Trolling Speed: 2-2.5 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 95-105 Lure Depth: 40-75 ==================== What a beautiful morning on the Lake for a Solo trip!! From the reports coming in it seems my results were on par for the weekend. 2 of the seven lossed fish were big Steelies, lost behind the boat when they hook popped out after the two foot leaps out of the water, would have loved to get them on the boat, but it is awesome watching them break the surface with such power! I stuck with spoons on downriggers and dipseys for the morning and had a great time out there. As you can see from the picture, two fish made the ride home with me, dad wanted a few for the smoker! ====================
  21. Or he was a fishermen with a poor attitude because he had to work on Sunday and WE were going fishing. I should have invited him out for the afternoon, maybe saved me a ticket!! But then again, I like to have fun when I'm on the boat.....!!!
  22. Had two friends in town and fished Ontario on Saturday with no luck. I really wanted to get them hooked into some New York fish so we made the run down to Keuka for some lakers. We arrived a little later than we wanted, mostly because the cop that pulled me over for speeding took a long time running my background check. We finally made the most of the morning, getting 7 lakers in the boat and enough for my friends to return home with some fish for dinner and a few stories. Unfortunatley with the ticket, that fish meat will probably exceed $25/lb! The memories are always priceless though! All of the action came on spoons, NBK being the biggest hit, off riggers 90' and 120'. Plenty of fish marked, well dispersed on the east and west sides by the state park launch. Good numbers were consistently marked between 40' and 50' also.
