  1. Nice job Kevin , love fishing up there. You should let the bigger ones go and eat the smaller ones 12 14 inchers. Don't get me wrong I am all for eating fish , but we need to keep the spawners .
  2. Onieda Lake Chautauqua Conesus Keuka Erie Honeoye is also great for numbers and the size is getting alot better
  3. Hi Deaf fisherman , nice bass , I noticed the R.I.T. tag in your photo, does R.I.T. have a fishing team ? I know alot of colleges do.
  4. I use Zoom Super Chunks on 3/4 and 1 oz. and JR. Chunks on 3/8 and 1/2s . Most of the time its a Black/Blue Strike King jig, sometimes brown . Trailers are black/red flaked , but you can use any color you think the bass would like . Also any plastic can work as a trailer there are millions to chose from. I always use a trailer. Remember to check regulation on lakes to some dont have catch and release seasons like Onieda, make sure. P.S. I use 20lb Power Pro braid , but 17lb. to 20lb. mono or florocarbon is good too.
  5. Smallmouth will be more active first since they are more of a cold water fish. When the water temp. gets to 56 to 64 degress the largemouth will start sponging , in anywere from 10 foot and in , smallies alittle colder and sometimes deeper depending on water clarety. You can catch both all year round just go slow moving bait when water is cold . When going out in the spring and the water is cool fish dirty water ( it warms up faster ) rock piles , concrete walls or any other object that will gather heat to warm the water faster. Jigs , stickbaits , worms and crankbaits are good , then as water warms use spinnerbaits and lipeless crankbaits. Top water starts around 56 degrees. This is just a starting point for you , remember bass don't always play by the rules so you can catch one on anything anytime of the year !! P.S. Bass season is open all year round in New York for catch and release till regular season opens. Alway check regulations because some lake are closed except regular season and open early ( Lake Erie ) for special season.
  6. Launch at Hugh's marina in Williamon , right off lake road $5.00 ( just past Pultneyville and the Pultney Harbor , look for the sigh once you go by the B Forman Park. ) The best spot out of Bear Creek is Hungerfer shoals which it to the east of the creek about a mile down. I grew up in Ontario and fished out infront of the power plant and shoal scince I was 15. To bad we can't get into the plant anymore!!!
  7. I use between 12 lb and 14 lb mono , but you can go with 17 lb when conditions call for heavy line. If you are fishing open waters go with 12 lb , the weeder it gets you can go heaver , also water clarity can be a factor. Also if you are tring to run your spinnerbaits deeper go with lighter line , for it is less bouyent . I hardly go below 12 lb on a baitcaster reel. Superlines ( PowerPro ) can work real well too. You will get alot more feel for what your bait is doing , but be careful , there is no stretch in superlines and you can brake a rod pretty easy if you get hung-up and set the hook hard or try and pull it off. The superlines will cut threw the weeds alot better than mono or florocarbon. If the bass are short-striking and you are using superline switch to mono , this will alow the bait to give alittle more and the bait will fall back into the fishes mouth more. Look for a rod with a slower tip will also help. ( bends easly near the tip ) this will give as the fish is hitting the bait.
