And what do they think is his agenda?

Anti Pacific Salmon and pro native species, ie-Lake Trout.  Sadly many people do not understand that the only shot native species restoration has in Lakes Michigan and Ontario is the control of alewives by the pelagic, naturalized species--the Chinook Salmon. The biggest single factor of predation on fry of Lake trout and Walleye is Alewife.

  2. I considered Azek on an aluminum boat project but did not like the rigidity. I would opt for the marine plywood or starboard. If you opt for the starboard it is more costly but they offer a diamond pattern that would not need to be covered with vinyl or carpet. I would agree with the posters who would cover the plywood with vinyl instead of carpet. Good luck with your project.

  4. Good posts guys. The most important thing(especially with whats happening with the "TV hunters") is APPRECIATE the deer and even each other--as long as good sportsmanship is practiced. Too many horror stories of deer disrespected because "it was the wrong one". WHAT?  Of course all hunters want the big racks, but its definitely gone too far and is ruining it for some. We have to have "numbers"-- each other--or the pursuit will be slowly legislated away.

We can't lose sight of what deer hunting is truly about--venison for the table. That is truly the only way to hold off the anti hunters. It is the only justification that will stand the test of time as society drifts further and further away from this type of pursuit and heritage. Hunting is for managing deer numbers and harvesting (what is obvious to many) food for humans. For centuries big racks have been desired and revered but it was a bonus. Certainly there is nothing wrong with hunting for big racks as long as the venison is used, and certainly letting the young bucks grow is a good practice. It is sad however, to hear a young hunter criticize another because of a deer he took cleanly in a sporting manner.

There is certainly room for all of it, some land is fit to be managed and some parcels are void of game an hour after the crops are cut or the first shot rings out. The most important thing is respecting the game and each other while realizing there are far more people that are indifferent to hunting that we don't want to see join the ranks of the antis.

My early bow season’s over. Hunted pretty hard and missed a good one last Wednesday afternoon. 25 yards broadside and I rushed my shot. Horrible. Deer unhurt but can’t say the same for my ego. Oh well, not the first time.

Saw a couple very good deer but nothing else in range.

Had a great time. Saw some cool stuff and enjoyed my time on stand. Can’t say I’m not disappointed but to a larger degree blessed to have had the opportunity.

Key to life is things to look forward to.

That last statement is a bullseye. Good luck in the woods.

You have the best deer stand in the world. I would be too mesmerized by the spawning salmon that deer would be sneaking up on me.

I told Joey the same thing! The ultimate would be to arrow a buck while salmon spawn unmolested in the stream below.

  7. Yes, the DEC did clip Coho adipose fins in some of the stockies last year and this year. Some of the Cohos that were clipped are matures this fall. I believe the DEC is trying to determine which return or imprint better--Spring fingerlings or Fall yearlings. They did not get word out sufficiently but they would like the heads from any Cohos with adipose(its the little one in front of tail on top) clipped and missing. Several locations have freezers and the one in Olcott is in its usual location next to the cleaning station at the town marina.
