  1. I have been using an older Fish Hawk for temp and speed and have never been happy with it. I am hearing the new probe out performs the old one by having more power. Has anyone tried the new probe and if so how does it work? I have a buddy telling me to get rid of the Hawk and go to a Depth Raider. Any experience with them? Will the Depth Raider work with Big John Down Riggers? Any advice would be helpful! edited & moved fome Fishing Reports to This Old Boat: l&m
  2. Thanks guys for the response. I was already booked at Oswego and didn't know if I should change. I am a regular at Oswego late summer/fall but didn't know if other ports were out producing he eastern end of the lake that time of the year. Apparently not though I am sure there is some good fishing elswhere.

  4. Cruze Control, nice pictures. Thanks for the info this weekend as it was my first at Olcott and you helped get me out a little deeper on the bigger fish. The best lure I found was a stinger in candy apple. I could not keep the fish off of that one. For some reason the colors with red in them produced best for me. We ended up with around 18-kings, one brown and one laker after fishing Saturday and Sunday. We had many smaller kings and returned them to grow up some day. I really like this port!
  5. Thanks for the feedback guys. It is alway appreciated!
  6. What is the advantage over a fixed slider versus stacking on a down rigger? Still trying to learn all I can when it comes to chasing fish!
  7. Thank you! That gives me someplace to start. Best of luck to all of you guys when the boating season begins!
  8. Thanks for the info guys. If you have any color preferences you want to share I am all ears! I think I have just a little more room in the spoon box and the other tackle boxes for a few more items but if I add another box I am going to need a bigger boat. The info shared between fisherman and this website are truly a wonderful thing.
  9. Appreciate the info. Would you go at them with something lighter than 30 lb or don't worry about fishing the deeper rods with it?
  10. Will be fishing Olcott for the first time late May and could use some advice. Have fished Oswego for years and fish with very light tackle for browns in the spring and heavy tackcle 30 lb test in the fall for salmon. What kind of gear do you guys recommend spring fishing Olcott? Any advice on spoons, flies, etc.? Would appreciate any other advice when I start fishing this port to shorten the learning curve.
  11. Appreciate the info! Now I need someone familiar with that area to give me some advice on a good place to stay, good places to eat and what boat ramp I should favor as I have never been there before. You know how it is learning a new area or town and I would rather not learn it the hard way.

Coming from Eastern NY and usually fish Oswego as it is the closest point. I am towing a 20' lund so I can fish anywhere. Where do you recommend for the best action, the Oak or Olcott? Oswego sounds pretty bad right now. ====================
