  1. You might take a look at the website below before making a decision on the fly fishing group. Looks like some other guys have done this already and you may be able to talk with some of them for further info about what they know and have learned. http://blog.syracuse.com/outdoors/2010/ ... ishin.html I have been wanting to do something like this for a year or two but my wife says this year may not be the year for me with the fishing trips I already have scheduled and a big elk hunt to B.C. this fall. We will see how the summer shakes out.
  2. Let us know what you find out. I had some of the same thoughts after our company sponsored a take a soldier fishing event in Lousianna last year. The company chartered 15-boats and we had a lot of fun fishing for red fish and trout with a big cook out afterwards. The soldiers really appreciated it!
  3. Guys, i was there last weekend and the fishing was tough. I ended up trying to avoid the wind and went to the bar. Water temp dropped from 60 on the surface to 49 after the blow on Friday. We found the best fishing Saturday in 40-50' of water for cohoes, steelies and shakers. Did 9 for 13 with three keepers for dinner but nothing big. Took the light brown trout gear to create some type of challenge. Of course that could all change by this weekend but wanted to share what I could. Also heard some guys reporting heading out to 550' of water to find fish but that is a long haul for a small boat.
  4. 8' 6" wide, 1000 hours, 4-new SS Cannon down riggers with swivel bases/locks/covers, outriggers, planer board system with Otter boards, rocket launcher with lights, Sitex sonar 8", Loran GPS, Remote spot light, Marine radio, Stereo, Porta potty, Big John rod holders, full camper canvas with drop curtain, Fish hawk, Galvanized dual axle trailer, elecric winch, trolling plate. $15,000 or best offer. Serious enquries only can call Pete at 518-283-5920.
  5. Olcott was not good for me Thursday evening and blown off Friday. Could not find good fish or any kings so I trailered over to the Niagara Bar on Saturday to hide from some of the wind. Did 9 for 13 on Cohoes and Steelies but no size to them wiht the largest maybe 6-7 pounds. Used light gear with 10 lb test to add some excitement. Lots of fish in 40-50' of water. All spoon bight. Anything orange, gold, fire tiger, etc. or a combo of each.
  6. I upgraded to the FH X4 last season and it worked perfectly. I would recommend it! The older 840 unit did not work as well as this. The large digital screen is awesome and can be seen from the back of the boat.
  7. Is the Wrights Landing boat launch wide open in Oswego for launching?
  8. Thanks for the info guys! I have a couple of cottages booked for both Memorial Day Weekend and late June through July 4th. See you on the water and good luck this year!!
  9. Thanks for the info guys! I have a couple of cottages booked for both Memorial Day Weekend and late June through July 4th. See you on the water and good luck this year!!
  10. Can you guys tell me if the salmon fishing is any good in the Olcott area around July 4th? I have fished there early speing and done well but I am not sure if fish migrate away from the area mid summer.
  11. I have been looking at Hewes craft as well as my next boat a few years down the road. Another boat company that is not aluminum but did catch my eye is ospreyboats.com. Check it out. Nice pilot house boat.
  12. Any of you guys use the hotmaps in your depth finder? It appears Lake Ontario coverage may be limitted based on what I am reading on the internet with a little shopping. Any advice for a first time user of the maps would be appreciated. I have a Hummingbird 917C combo unit on a 20' Lund. I also fish some lakes in the adirondacks and the eastern part of the state that appear to be included in the maps. They also have many levels of maps including a premium card. Cabelas has a 2010 map card on sale for $89.00 but I am a bit afraid to buy something that old.
  13. I use Bounce dryer sheets. They smell better than the moth balls. I put them in every compartment and leave all compartments open. I stick them in most every crack and crevis and lay them all ove r the floor. Two boxes of 100 minimum creates such a strong smell that I think the critter hate it as it burns their nose. Has worked well for me as long as you use Bounce and not the off brands.
  14. Thanks buddy! I suspect I will get the problem resolved with one of these recommendations. This is a great website for information sharing!

  18. Yes, they are resistor type. I have replaced them once with no change. [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  19. Unit is complete with display, power wiring, transducer and wiring and two probes. Asking $300 or BO.
  20. Have any of you ever installed an alternator filter to try and eliminate scatter on a depth finder at certain RPM when trolling? If so, any recommendations on brand and suppliers? Running a Merc 9.9 pro kicker and using a Humminbird 974 depth finder. [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  21. Good to see they are still biting out there Cruz. I am headed back to Olcott next weekend the 25th to try it again! Mark
  22. I have a Fish Hawk 840 with transducer, power wiring and two probes. Unit is probably 5-7 years old. I just upgraded to the x4. Are you interested in the 840?
  23. Thanks guys! I think I am going to try the new X4 and not tear the boat apart rewiring. I really appreciate everyone's help!
