  1. Thanks Ray, the cart at BJ,s is nice!
  2. Thanks guys! I will check on some of these options.
  3. Has anyone found a good dolly or cart for moving heavy coolers and gear from truck to boat? I am searching for something to take the load off my back. I am getting too old for carrying heavy coolers to the boat. My back is flaring up so I need to change my procedure as I am not getting any younger.
  4. Well as you all know the wind blew like heck this weekend. We fished out of Olcott and finally got out for an hour or so late Saturday but had a full day on Sunday with my new 24' Hewes Craft. What a vessel in rough seas! My first pilot house and staying 100% dry while taking wave spray over the roof is sweet. This was my first time fishing with autopilot and a control king and boy that sure takes the work out of it. Anyway, we ended up 15 for 18 on Sunday with the largest king at 26 pounds and the largest steelhead at 14 pounds. The sweet spot for the larger fish was in the 130' to 160' of water. As we moved in the fish got smaller. Spin doctors and flasher fly combinations took the larger fish while spoons and free sliders seemed to take smaller fish. White, white with pokadots and white with blue performed followed by Atomic hammer or blue and white flies. Sorry I don't have all the names memorized. Spoons in all colors we presented as free sliders did fairly well especially what I think is candy apple (red spoon). The largest steely came on a purple spoon with white ladder back and gold back side trolled on a long line about 35' down. Dipsy's at 175 and 250 performed as well. The fish were hungry. Lake Ontario continues to impress me as an awesome fishery. I am struggling with my retirement plan, living around family and 30-minutes from the Hudson river for spring stripers with lots of hunting land behind my house versus a place at the big lake. Decisions, decisions....
  5. Wow, it could have been a lot worse. I fished out of Olcott and watched the lake for the first two days but got out Sunday to do 15 for 18. Glad to hear you made it back safely and with some fish to round out your trip!
  6. Good report and very nice fish Captain! Because I live near the Hudson River I am waiting for the stripers to arrive before I start towing the new boat to LO. Problem is the stripers are not here yet and you guys are catching browns without me. Your killing me!
  7. I see a marine engine dealer in the magazine Boating on the Hudson that appears to have a lot of choices. Might be worth contacting them. Maybe they can steer you in the right direction. www.1800runsnew.com phone number 1-800-786-7639.
  8. I have run batteries for 5-years babying them the same way you are during the winter but I was always nervous the fifth year that a problem would arise. It never did. The risk is really up to you.
  9. The 30 Okuma's on the ugly sticks is what I started with. Decent inexpensive combos.
  10. Do you guys have any recommendations for charter boat insurance?
  11. Paid $500 new last year plus freight. Best unit I could find. Nice thing is you can use it for alarming anything and not just boats. Sold the open boat so don't need it now. Will sell for $400. See stealarmor.com for details of the unit. I will pay the freight if you are on the east coast.
  12. Cabela's sells some nice ones. I have a 3'x4' that is great for large fish.
  13. Latest offer is $30K. Going once......... My guy offering $30k decided his finances where too tight so he backed away. Boat is still available.
  14. Anybody have any experience with the Garmin GPSMAP chart plotters such as the 6012 and 4010 tied in conjunction with GMR 18 HD Radar and GSD 24 Digital Black Box with an Airmar 600 watt transducer? I have never used Garmin equipment on a boat but they have complete systems and my boat distributor on the West Coast is recommended the Garmin equipment. He says he installs lot's of them for the salt water guys. He did tell me to stay away from the touch screen models.
  15. Motors have around 500 hours on them. No issues with either of them. 100% perfect. Boat is located near Albany, NY. You need to see it to appreciate it. Will gladly show it and run it for you. [ Post made via iPhone ]
  16. Thanks for the info! I want to rig it right the first time! [ Post made via iPhone ]
  17. BW, do you think a 9.9 HP kicker is large enough for this boat?
  18. Latest offer is $30K. Anyone want to beat it?
  19. Thanks! It is a sweet machine. Just need to find the right buyer. I am sure it will sell as we move closer to spring and the focus turns to fishing for most people versus hunting. Good luck with that lottery!
  20. This sure would make a nice Christmas gift for someone!
  21. I have use them for years without problems. Sometimes i have to lower the down rigger a second just to get the system to recognize i want to raise them again before the autostop was ever engaged but that is the only funny thing i have experienced and usually only happens when they are almost all the way up anyway. You probably need to make sure you have the bead/float looking device on the cable that flips the switch when retreived and see if it works.
  22. I am headed to the west coast to look at a 24' Hewes Craft Saturday. I am hoping that is my dream boat as it sure cost enough!
