  1. Nice Report- We hit the water on Friday and Saturday out of Henderson. Headed outside the mountain top and headed straight towards the power plant smoke in 150-160 feet of water. On Friday we went 7 for 9. 5 lake trout from 12 to 16lbs, 1 king weighed in at 23 lbs and one shaker king probably weighed 3 lbs. Had a double hookup on the line with the shaker king. Small king hit the slider and when we grabbed the rod to release it from the rigger it released it self and started screaming and off went 150 of line then nothing and my buddy said he lost the fish and started reeling the line in and when he got it to the boat the little guy was there. Never had that happen before. 2 fish on riggers down 90-130. The big king hit the slider spoon on the 130 rigger. All the lakers came on the 500 ft copper with flasher fly.

On Saturday headed to the same spot and same route. Have 4 of us on the boat and went 6 for 9 on lakers. 2 of the fish we dropped were screamers and one broke the 50lb leader on the flasher fly combo. Hammer time spin doctors and green flies were the ticket for us.

  2. Is that antenna for a VHF Radio? Picking up my new boat this week and moving from the hand held VHF to a fixed mount on the boat. Was looking at prices on antennas and they are expensive. Also, does it have the base with it that collapses down level to the boat? Thanks in advance for the response. James

  3. I eat a lot of sunflower seeds on the boat and bananas are not allowed on my boat at all or ever. I grew up on the Pacific Ocean and my dad believed that bananas were bad luck so none on my boat. One day we weren't catching fish and someone opened up a banana and I had to get rid of it. 10 minutes later we were hooked up. I believe bananas are bad luck but who am I to say. Good luck fishing.

  4. Chas- thanks for the update... I am watching the weather and will be out in the next couple of days. Should have went Sunday but decided to go bang some geese in the cornfield. I have to watch the weather closely because I have an 18 ft PolarKraft and I don't like being out when it gets nasty out there. Was out one day this year and we were battling 6 footers... not fun... I will post a report once I hit the water before the weekend...

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

Hit the water at at 5:15 and lines in at 6am... 2 riggers... one down 110 and one down 90... 2 dipseys...one out 150 and the other at 200.... headed into the wind and waves and held on for 45 minutes then the dipsey fired and a 15 minute fight pursued with my oldest son who heads back to Clarkson on Monday. Netted the fish and was bumping the digital scale between 20 to 21.5 and was hoping it was 25 because we are all in the derby.

30 minutes later after swinging around and running with the waves the rigger fires and my brother picks it up and it seems like a small fish at first and then it takes off.... another 15-20 minute fight and a huge wave over the back of the boat we are finally ready to net the fish... up and down up and down and finally I try and get him in the net... a nice size wave lifts us up and down as I am netting the fish and I have half of him in and half out... well the hooks grab the net and the fish does the old slow roll out and swims away. I am sure the other boats heard me as I was pretty upset...

Fought the waves and wind for another hour or so and finally called it a day. The wind keep coming and the waves were getting bigger and I looked around and there were only a couple boats still out when there were 20 earlier. We will be back out in the morning and I hope Mother Nature is a little nicer to us. Still a great day on the water and we didn't get skunked. Official weight was 20 lbs 12 oz.

SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Got my son out for the first time for the kings out in the lake. He is heading off to college in 12 days and football and lacrosse finally gave him a break. At a little after 7am the rigger fired and after a nice fight he landed a nice 18lb king. About 30 minutes later the dipsey fires set out on 180 and went for a nice run. I got that one all the way to the boat and we lost him in the net. Something about netting a king for the first time and having a 9 foot leader on an 8 1/2 foot rod. Anyway, I am glad we lost that one and we both learned a lesson for the next one. It was probably about 12-14 lbs but bright and silver. We watched that one swim away after catching the fly hooks in the net. Oh, well. A little after 8am the rigger hits at 110 again and my son grabbed the rod and said "go ahead Dad, get it cause you lost the last one" About the time he handled me the rod and start driving the boat, the fish took off on a monster run... and it kept running. Peeled off a good 600-700 feet and I knew I only had another 100-150 on the spool. We slowed the boat down and went in a small circle to the right and fought the fish for a good 10 minutes. Tried to clear the starboard dipsey but ended up moving it over and kept the fish on the right side of the boat. Finally got it up to the boat and my son did an awesome job netting the fish. When he went to lift the fish in the boat the net handle bent right over but we grabbed the net and got the monster in. On the digital scale it was bouncing between 32.5 and 33.5 lbs so we stopped on the way home at Henchen's and weighed him. Came in at 33 lbs even and measured 44 inches long. What an awesome day...Now he is hooked!

  7. Just wondering how the King bite is out of Oswego. I have a couple semi-pro baseball players going fishing with me tomorrow and wanted to get them a couple of fish. One of them has never fished a day in his life. Any info would be great. I was out there 2 weeks ago and hooked a couple 20lbers and just checking to see if there was still a good bite.

    Thank you and tight lines!

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

Did a quick one hour run in Rays Bay with planer boards, got 3 boards out and hooked and landed a nice 9lb brown, thought it was going to be a good morning but after an hour and a half back and forth nothing, there was a lot of mossy grass on the boards and the stick baits so we pulled lines and headed for deep water. Ran a straight salmon spread with spin doctors and flies, and sliders with spoons on the downriggers. We only fished 4 rods but that did us pretty good. As soon as we set up in 140 feet of water we had a double on browns, one on a spoon, and the other on the flasher fly combo. Nice 10 lb brown on the rigger and a little 4 lb brown on the spoon. Once again we though it was going to be a hot bite. Went from 930-1130 without moving a rod and was getting a bit frustrated so be brought the riggers up to 60 and 70 ft and hit our first king. Then we did pretty good for the next 3 hours in 130-140ft of water. Lost a big brown in the net when we tried to net him over the two outboards and the swimstep. The rest of the fish we brought to the side of the boat after that. No monster kings- they were all 10-12 lb fish but were bright and gave us a great fight. My buddy caught his first king and first laker. The lake trout was 14lbs. If I didn't have to go to work at 5pm I would have stayed til it was dark. It was a great day on the lake and was happy to enjoy a calm day on the water. Might get back out there tomorrow afternoon if I can swing it. To all those fishing tomorrow, have a great day and tight lines.
