  1. Where is Fishy Business located? do the have a website?
  2. I was on the west side this weekend and saw alewife in shallow, I was between Goose Watch and Cobble Stone
  3. I pole and some worms, still might be a bit complicated for ya but at least a start!
  4. Not to buck the trend but I have an Elite 7 and like it. I personally did not find it that hard to run, installed a chip in it for NYS and get all the contour info. with no memory issue, chart works fine. For a $700 chart/plotter I would buy it again in a heart beat. Everyone has their favorite brand, all brands have a lemon once in awhile, it's all relative.
  5. Scott, will Bear's store in T-Burg have the applications and sign-up too?
  6. Lakeside is a nice NYS Park, about 5 miles from the river, good sites and clean. Also 4C's rents out cottages pretty reasonable if you would rather have a roof over your head, at least they used to be reasonable. Good luck and make sure you stop by the Black North for a beverage and maybe lunch/dinner. I have spent alot of time over the years at the Oak and it can be alot of fun.
  7. I have 6 Ugly Stiks and 3 Okuma, very happy with all.
  8. Thanks Kyle, it was legible and showed me that we didn't win any of the big money, always fun to be fishing though!
  9. Morning, does anyone have the rsults of this apst weekend Barney & Bear derby, we have a couple of fish on the middle of the board and wonder if they held up or not. Jim
  10. Guys, is there any way to confirm that this is still on for tomorrow, I'm driving in from Rochester tonight and don't want to make the haul if the derby is off. Thanks
  11. Dude, I have seen you fish before, you might be better off stopping at Wegman's for a fish fry!
  12. Having trouble rounding up my crew, does anyone know if you have to have a minimum of 2 people on the boat or can you fish solo?
  13. I use Walker electrics on my boat with the 15lb torpedos that I too got from Screwy Louie's and the riggers handle them just fine, go with a bigger snap swivel and you should be fine. Mt Walker's are newer with the faster motors though so please take that into account. Jim
  14. Good morning all, just to bring closure to this post. I took the 2 piece 7' M uglies out on LO Saturday and am very, very happy . They are much easier to work with, handled fish fine, and not to stiff, really glad I went this route. I do miss the extra leverage the longer rods give me when trying to get fish into the net when fishing alone, but hey, just adds more excitement. Thank you everyone for the advise that was given on the subject. Good fishing, Jim
  15. Thanks again guys, I bit the bullet last night and ordered 4 of the 2 piece Ugly's, looking forward to giving them a try next weekend. Good fishing and thank again, Jim
  16. You are right Jim, I miss typed that earlier. You are correct with it being medium. So do you find the 2 piece "mediums" still to have some flex?
  17. Thanks again guys, definitely know the power of the king. My hesitancy to go with the MH is that I fish Cayuga and Seneca alot more than Ontario these days so want a rod that will give me some sport with the sleepy lakers if the Finger Lakes while at the same time will handle LO when I can get out there. For those that have used the 2 piece MH rods, is the tip some fast or is it a stiff rod from tip to butt? Sorry to be a indecsive pain but don't wanna drop a couple of hundred on rods and find out I hate them. JIm
  18. Thanks all for the advice, pretty set on going this route now. Still debating the merits of the 1 piece light action vs. the 2 piece MH action. Leaning toward the 1 piece but like the idea of being able to break them down, I guess I need to just flip a coin. Jim
  19. Hello all, quick question asking for your advice. I currently have 8' 6" Diawa downrigger rods, had them about 20 years, they take a licking and keep on ticking and have definitely been a good investment and I have gotten my moneys worth. What I don't like about them is the length. I am not the tallest fisherman that ever lived, I call my self "average" but I am definitely not 8 1/2 feet tall either. Plus my boat is only 18' so that doesn't help. So, I am strongly considering the Ugly Stick 7' downrigger rods but I have never used them. Is there anyone out there that can comment on 7' downrigger rods in general for LO fishing and even better has had expereince with the Ugly Sticks? any other brands I should look at? lastly, if you have used the Ugly Sticks, should I go with the 1 piece (light action) or the 2 piece (medium action). Thanks in advance, Jim
  20. Allen, good choice, you will be very happy. Jim
  21. an update on my trip to Cayuga. The fishing was decent but the fleas are a royal pain! My brother thought is we could become rich it we invented some type of rod attachment that would strip them off. I'm expermineting with razor blades and lasers now, LOL. Really though, those fleas suck, they were never a problem when I fished Cayuga as a kid, didn't even know what they were. I assume they are just another ecology change due to zebra mussels or some other alien transplant. Jim
  22. Allen, I was in a similar situation as you earlier this year. I decided to go with the X4 and am glad that I did. I didn't want to monkey around with coated cable. Drilling 2 small holes in the hull was no big deal, use some silicon sealer and you will be fine, just like mounting any transducer. I have no interference from my sonar transducer which is mounted right next to the X4 transducer. I will say that my sonar runs at 200 MHz, I hear that the 50 MHz sonar’s will cause more problems. There is no complexity in using it, it is very intuitive. The customer service seems great, I had a couple of questions, called Fish Hawk and spoke with the owner, nice guy and very helpful. I haven't used it yet on Lake Ontario but have quite a bit in the Fingerlakes, it is quite surprising the speed variations from the surface to the ball. This weekend with 140' of cable out we had to run 4.5 on top to get 2.5 at the ball. Plus we had to go to 140' to find the 48 degree water I was looking for. I feel it was a great investment and am very happy. We only get so many fishing days so why not make the most of them. Jim
  23. Thanks all, I appreciate the input. Either way being on the water is better than being on land, especially when it is 90 degress and humid!
  24. Haven't been down in awhile, how are our fleas, getting bad yet?
