  1. Try putting your dipsy on a 1 setting in say 75ft. of water and let it out slowly at 2.5 mph and see how many feet are out when it starts rubbing bottom. That will give you a good starting point and you can adjust from there. Kinda like in golf. Figure out what you hit at 150yds and go up or down from that starting point.Hope that helps.
  2. You dont see many browns like that!!!!! A wall hanger for sure......very very nice!!!! That right there is why we do what we do.Great job!
  3. The first story was good. Paps was even better!!!!!! kudos to all of you!
  4. We all remember our"first time"!!!!! THAT is a MONSTER KING and a great story! great to see the kids get involved. If there is a kid on my boat,he lands ALL the fish.
  5. someone mentioned buggspray so I got two bottles and tried them. they definitely worked. reapply every hour or two and the flies land on your ankles and take right off. It's not perfect but the results were at least75% better than without.hope this helps
  6. I use 30# ff year round. If you want to save $$$ (though not recommended) you can splice enough ff ,say 125ft, to the end of your line. The fleas only attatch to the vertical line from the reel to the dr ball when trolling. That said, I dont notice any difference in my catch rate using it year round. You can also use a barrel swivel and tie on 8 ft of floro for line shy fish. Keep in mind ,I am mainly targeting kings.hope this helps.
  7. Quality fish for sure!!!!! Slowly they will filter east.......then its on!
  8. 19.5 can handle most situtions.Just have all of your safety gear in good shape and try to "buddy up" if you intend to head to deep water in the heat of the summer. I go it alone most days with my 18ft. Lund. I pick and choose my days based on multiple weather and wind forecasts. Good luck and welcome to the addiction!!!
  9. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:DONUTMAN ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):JULY16-20 Time on Water:SUNRISE -8:00P.M Weather/Temp:SUNNY AND HOT!!! Wind Speed/Direction:CALM (TUES BREEZY CHOPPY N.E.) Waves: FLAT EXCEPT TUES. 2-3FT CHOP Surface Temp: 72 Location:NIAGARA BAR LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 15- 20 EACH DAY Total Boated:10-15 DAILY (EXCLUDING MANY SKIPPERS) Species Breakdown:MAINLY MATURE KINGS, INCIDENTAL BROWN, SOME LAKERS AND STEEL Hot Lure: GATOR SPINNY AND GLOW HAMMER FLY Trolling Speed: 2.8 Down Speed: 2.8-3 Boat Depth: 180-220 Lure Depth: 50- 65 HOT, 75-85 GOOD ,LAST DAY 40-45 AFTER N.E. BLOW ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Outstanding fishing at the bar. Worked Olcott sat, did 4 kings and spent the next 4 days outside the red can. many, many mature kings. Very clean fish with a noticeable absence of lampreys or lamprey scars. Good to see!!!! Fleas were not bad at all for this time of year. All major kings were taken by spinnys and flies. Froggy spinny and hammer fly way out-produced the rest with mountain dew a second best. Other notables were wonderbread and 42 second. No kings were taken on spoons , but to be fair , we were doing well with the gear we had down, we did not run spoons too much. Another hot set-up was a cheater in the 25-30ft. range with a black and purple spoon with gold belly for steel. Great time although sometimes unbearably hot!!! (no cover on my boat).Fishing did slow down for us on wed. after the northeast blow.Go get um it is the best I can remember in my 25+ years on the lake!!!!! ====================

  11. great report and awesome pics. My other son and I were there again at the same time as you and did o.k., just not as well as you and your new first mate. It's great she enjoys it as much as you. We did not stay at the Lighthouse this time so prolly why we didn"t run into you. I'm heading up for the last time sat- thurs. The weather looks like it's setting up pretty good .Can only hope we have half the action you did. Will write a report when we are home .Later, Donutman
  12. hawkeye, glad to hear you did well out past the can. We were happy to help you get started in the right direction seeing as you only had 1 day to get out. My son and I had a blast and also noticed the lack of fishing pressure. (gas prices?). That was my Fathers day present and couldn't have spent a better day anywhere!!!!! :
