  1. It doesnt matter what you do as long as your not paying attention. Light a smoke, crack a beer, eat anything, pee off the boat, open tackle box for umpteenth time to contemplate the same 5 lures. As long as no one is watching they will fire.i think its safe to say we have heard more rods scream then seen them fire.

  2. Ugly stick 8,6 heavy with pflueger president and 30 lb pp braid for lighter gear casting. 6,6 shimano compre heavy with shimano calcutta 400 te with 80 to 100 lb braid for big lures and big pike. I use barbless hooks for pike so i need a setup that keeps the tension on. i caught my biggest this spring 44' and well over 20 lbs on this second setup with a 10' doble jointed storm lure

    Good luck

  3. We had a sailboat come straight towards us from the shallow side and no matter where we tried to head he seemed to be tracking just in front of us. It would look like he was moving away and then the boat would line us straight up again. We tried to head out and in the end made a sharp 90 as this boat almost hit our bow. The ••••••• was not even at the helm, he came out only after we started yelling and he had almost hit us. I assume he had some sort of auto pilot but since he is still reasonably close to shore you think he would have to watch where the $&@? He was going. We have found that time and again sailboats seem to be the true menace of the water with no respect for other vessels and no regard for who or what they disrupt.

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

    ====================

    Well it was the end of our salmon fishing for the season and we did pretty good the last two days. Friday we started fishing at 530am from the bluffs, our fisrt fish hit heading sw in 77ft of water on an atomic fly and dreamweaver flasher. at over 20 lbs it was a good start so we let him go and continued on. our next fish was another big one on the fly and dipsey and while hauling it in the rigger with a fly combo got smashed, we lost that but boated another at 20+. the morning went fast a hard then died down to the occasional strike. the flies continued to pull there weight and despite the heat we managed a big dark 26lb and change and a bright silver 23lb to finish the day around 2.30pm

    so we had high hopes for the last day of the derby considering the way we started the day before but things did not go so easily, we has nothing good in the first couple hours and what little fish there was dried up. we did not mover a rod from 7.30 till past noon. it was really hot there was no wind and people were flocking back to the launch,we kept at it and turning around in front of bluffers we hit a nice 20lb in about 90ft of water on a atomic fly. we didnt get another hit till we were over by toronto harbour turning around past sailboats in 230ft of water at 2 45pm and this one was screamin drag, i grabbed the dipsey rod and watched it pull to almost 600 ft out. after a long tough fight against the waves and current we got it in the boat. the fish bounced around 29 and change on the scale and was really dark. we let it go and got one more 20+ before we headed in at about 6.30 pm. its been a lot of fun and im already lookin forward to next year good luck and tightlines!

  5. We dont have grass carp up here but i would love to see a fish with more power than a 30+ lb common carp in the river. We catch them in skinny shallow rivers and it takes heavy line, tight drags and a little luck to keep them out of line cutting debris. Nice fishing man!!
