I wish there was a way to simply "like" some of these posts!
Thank you to those who support us captains and mates.
Brian...Gambler....has summed up the challenges for this business the best.
As for other posts ...... A few of them the ignorance was only exceeded by verbosity.
The challenges as a captain are what kept me from being a captain. If I did not have the job I have, I might have ended up chartering. I give any captain a lot of credit. As for the true full time guys, I give you even more credit. Not the easiest way to make a living.
I have no problem staying a rec fishermen and fishing a couple tournies here and there. Makes life a little easier! Anyone that has an issue with the prices of a charter, or tipping, try first mating on a boat or getting your license and seeing first hand what captains deal with every day!

file the pay pal claim asap
Ditto. I've had to do that twice with online merchants and gotten my money back both times.

Good seeing you again, Matt. Was that the Reflection you were on?

I remember the first WHI and the horrible fishing that day. That all day sinking feeling of not watching rods move and wondering what the rest of the fleet was doing. The stress knowing ONE FRIGGIN' good fish could put you in the money. That is why its called fishing and not catching.

What is K9 Advantage?? Where do you get it?

Tom did a great job with the Force 100hp outboard on my buddy's Starcraft. He has a great reputation.

Congrats, Dan. I hope it holds.

Yup I thought the same. If I'm in a pinch and need it (if they stock it) and no where else has them I bite the bullet. Otherwise I go anywhere else.
They will honor the ever-present Dick's Sporting Goods coupons as well. I try to combine a sale with a coupon - makes it less painful

Once you have first mated for a while you would realize that the first make makes more money than the Captain
That's not far from the truth .
The captain has to worry about licensing, registration, safety, preventative maintenance, repair, equipment costs, advertising... in addition to putting fish in the boat and providing a pleasant, memorable experience for the clients. I LOVE fishing - but I don't think I'd be a charter captain.

Atlantic's and Lakers have their own category an limits. One Atlantic over 25" and two Lakers but only one can be in the slot of 25" to 30"

The DEC was at sandy creek yesterday checking. Didn't hear of any problems.

I talked to the DEC officer briefly before we launched around 2pm. While I was there, he did a couple sweeps checking licenses for the guys fishing off of the docks

Don't forget keeper Atlantics and Lakers...

Heard you done good, Lou. Hope the bite holds for Sunday

I stop into S & R Bait & Tackle Co, 4423 Culver Rd, Rochester, NY 14622, when I'm in the neighborhood. They've got a good selection and surprisingly good prices.
FYI.....Deal on sunglasses from a local business
