Boat has been ready but we have both been too busy to get out. I let him drive since it was his boat since day 1 (1984) and he passed it down to me 2 years ago. Went out to 150' and saw a few boats. Set the wires at 210 and 225 (2.5 setting) Size 1 dipsey /SD/Atomic flies. Set a NK Mag (black front /white back w/yellow tape) 20' down. I was getting ready to stack the next rod and the rod fires in 165'. Nice steelhead jumping all over. Finally got all 6 rods set. Later on 225' wire with Black dipsey/ black SD/ purple fly releases but nothing home. 210' wire fires (clear dipsey/white SD/Hammer fly starts taking some line. Guessing a 20+ king (pic below). Same black and white NK Mag fires nothing there. Later the 210 wires goes again with a teen king. BK/WH NK Mag fires again with another nice steelhead. I changed the 80 rigger from NBK spoon to white SD/Hammer fly. My dad said he wanted to head in around 11. 10:45 80 rigger fires with a teen king again. Tried to release all the fish but the 2 we kept I was afraid would make it so we took them home. All fish we caught in 165' to 195'. Steelheads seemed to be 20' down. Kings 80' rigger and 210 wire. Rick
  2. I had a problem with my pull-pin on my new Big John Ratcheting Rod Holder and called Big John. They sent me a new pin with no problems. Hope this helps. Rick

    Batteries

Thanks for the info. After alot of reading I am wondering if I need to just run the motor on one battery and the fish finder and radio on a deep cycle? I have everything on the marine battery. I thought that since I troll 90% of the time that the battery was recharging while the engine was running. I do some bass/pan fishing with the kids and run the fish finder and radio with the motor off. Should I have one marine battery for the motor and deep cycle for the electronics? Thanks again for all your help! Rick

    Batteries

Suggestions on a good marine starting battery? I had some issues last year which many of you gave some great suggestions. I swear it was the starter but I had a friend that works at a local marine shop come over and after lifting my battery up he said it was the battery. He said Sears Diehard Batteries suck and they don't have a lot of lead plates in them. I am still skepticle since my dad has owned the boat for years and has run Diehards before. Thanks, Rick
  7. I asked the same thing last week. Was hoping to go out a few more times with my dad. One person said in close for browns but nothing about bows. If I hear anything I will let you know. Rick

I have read about steelhead fishing after the salmon run. Can anyone give me some pointers on fishing this time of the year? Normally we are bow hunting but not this year. We will put in at the genny on sunday. Thanks for all your help! Rick ====================
  9. Same thing here. Fished in front of the Genny Sat. with the fleet with no luck. Decided to troll up the river before we headed in. Marked a ton right by the new bridge. Saw the Sheriffs and Coast Guard boats up the river. Ran 6 rod spread, 2 SD/Flys, 2 spoons and 2 J-plugs. No takers. Good luck, Rick

  11. +2 on the GM tire hoist. Had to have mine cut off @ the dealer, since it was not releasing. Avalanche was only 3 years old. Nice job on the fishing.
  12. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):9/11 Time on Water:6:30am-11am Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: less than 1ft Surface Temp: Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 4 Total Boated:3 Species Breakdown:Coho, laker, king Hot Lure: Trolling Speed: 2.5-3.2 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 60-100 Lure Depth: riggers 50,55,60,65, wire 210' with 2.5 dipsey ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Took my dad out fishing after he had a heart attack a few weeks back. Figured Braddocks would be less busy. Only saw one boat when we headed out. Small Coho early on NBK on 50' rigger over 75'. Small laker on wire with clear dipsey white SD and Hammer fly. 60' rigger over 88' hit on NK MAG black with green ladder and white back. As soon as I got the rod out of the holder line went limp and I reeled in broken line. Line was all frayed where it broke. Don't know if it was the fish or something I did wrong. I had new line put on last year. Caught a teenager king around 10am on the wire set up again, 90' depth. Marked a lot of bait on the bottom and some nice hooks anywhere from 50-100. 2 other boat out there with us when we decided to come in at 11am. One was catching fish next to us in about 90' when we caught the king and lost the other one. Bradocks channel is only 1.8' deep. Might have to put in the river next time. Good luck, Rick
  13. Update. Went out waterskiing last week and boat had trouble turning over again at the dock. Finally got it started and it ran fine untill we shut it off after doing some skiing. Was having a hard time turning over again. Did some trouble shooting and after going directly from battery to starter and the starter barely turned over we figured starter was the problem. Decided since the water was warm to jump in a push it all the way back to the dock. After a long push we decided to try it again. It started up and we ran it to the dock and put it on the trailer. I took the starter to Golden on Elmgrove. They put a load on it and it ran fine. I asked him to take it apart and look at it. He said he cleaned up the connection on the inside since it was dirty and installed new brushes. They also load tested the battery (ok). I cleaned every connection on the motor. Cleaned the battery posts and cut the battery wires and went with new terminals. Boat ran fine in the driveway yesterday. Don't know if it was the starter, battery leads, or connections on motor. Hope this is it because it ran fine in the driveway days before it had problems at the dock. Thanks again for all your suggestions! Rick
  14. Took a break from salmon fishing and took the kids fishing for bass at Wautoma Shores. Read it was a great small mouth bass area. First fish was a big smally on a minnow. Every thing after that was gobie after gobie. They were eating our minnows and crayfish as soon as we got the lines in the water. Anyone know of how to fish for bass with live bait and not catch gobie after gobie? Anyone else fish Wautoma shores? Thanks, Rick
  15. I am looking to have a new bimini top made that will snap on to my windshield to protect me from the weather. Any recommendations on shops around Rochester? Thanks, Rick
  16. Here is the update. I forgot to mention that the starter drive assembly was missing some teeth so I replaced it before I went out and ran into the problems. When I pulled the engine cover after being confused as to why it was having trouble turning over my dad noticed the new drive assembly was engaged with the flywheel. He thought this was not normal. I took the starter apart and everything looked good. After assembly I put some grease on the armature shaft where the drive assembly spins up and down. I checked all the electrical connections and everything looked good. Hooked the starter back up and it ran fine. Tried it about 6 times to make sure it was good. So I believe the problem was not greasing the shaft when I installed the new drive assembly. This caused the assembly to not spin down like it was supposed to. By having the assembly engaged with the flywheel before turning the key caused the starter to have such a hard time to turn over. This is just my guess. Works now and I hope it continues to work fine. Thanks to all that replied with suggestions. Rick
  17. 1983 Evinrude 60HP Went to start it and it would hardly turn over. Tried again, and same thing. Thought battery was dead, so I connected wires to a different battery. When disconnecting I noticed the wires were REALLY hot. Same problem with back up battery. Went back to first battery, same problem, tried again and then it turned over fine. Another turn of the key and it would hardly turn over again. Pulled motor cover and noticed starter was really hot. Waited a few minutes while scratching my head. Tried it again and started up and ran fine all morning. A few friends are telling me if the wires and starter were REALLY hot, then the problem is the starter. Any suggestions??? Thanks, Rick
  18. I am looking at getting a rod holder for my new wire diver set up. What do you suggest? I was thinking about getting the Big John Ratcheting Diver Rod Holder. I need one so I can run my rod off the side to increase my spread. Thanks, Rick
  19. After so much talk about wire dipsey set ups I finally bought one. After much readings on here I got a Diawa 9'6" heartland dipsey rod and Diawa Sealine 47LC reel with 1000' of wire. Tried it for the first time Sat and it didn't take long to figure why everyone was saying it is a great set up. 5 of the 7 fish came off that set up, and I only had 1 wire setup. My question is around 4 rod placement. I ran 2 riggers off the side which have short beams, but put the poles in the 2 center rod holders. I ran a mono small dipsey off the one side with an adjustable rod holder horizontal to the water. I could not do that with the wire set up since it had some much pull, I was afraid the holder would not hold it and I would lose my pole. So I put the wire rod (dipsey setting 2) in the outer rod holder on the rigger. Everything was fine till a steely (guessing) took a spoon on the rigger closest to the wire and started jumping all over the place. Line broke within 30 seconds since I believe he crossed the wire line. I am thinking I need to do something else so I can keep the wire away from riggers. I have a 1983 18' blue fin which is not very wide. Should I run the riggers straight back instead of off the sides? Or should I get a better single rod holder and brace it to the boat so I can run the rod horizontal to the water like I have seen on the "wire hit" video under the video section? New to wire dipseys but love it already. Thanks for all your help, Rick
  20. Never got a weight. My dad was guessing 25? Brought it home to show the kids and I plan on smoking it this week. Was nice to return the favor and take my dad fishing.

  22. Chris, Nice pics and thanks again for letting me see that one giant in person. No pictures of Jordan? He only caught a tiny pike with me. I know he had better luck with you. Maybe we can get out this year together. Take care!
  23. I have tried that area with no luck. I have tried bow hunting Lowden Point Rd and seen many hunters and heard many shoots in a bow hunting area. They must have been hunting small game? I have seen many hunters and 0 deer this year. Good luck.
  24. Thanks for the input. I heard the same from some hunters I just talked to at the firehouse. Sucks that there is state land all along the parkway and only a few parking areas. Thanks again and good luck to everyone!
  25. Does anyone know if I will get a ticket if I pull my truck off the side of the parkway to access NYS hunting land in Greece NY? I see guys fishing do it all the time around long pond area. Thought I would ask before I tried it. Thanks.
